Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

I would really like a dog, but I want a really small small dog, something that could nearly fit in your hand or a little bigger, It doesn't matter if it is long or short hair as if it is small it would still be easy to look after. Please if anyone knows any breeds give me name or links to web sites as I would like to do research alot before I make my decision.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

There is no real dog that will fit in your hand as an adult.

Research toy breeds through google for small dogs.

As for me, I'd be afraid of misplacing or stepping on a dog that small.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Westie terriers are cute and they dont moult, though I dont know of any dog that is small enough to fit in your hand.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

"Small" does not inherently mean "easy to look after". In many cases, it can mean the exact opposite.

Check out the breed selector on www.dogbreedinfo.com.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

My sister has a papillion lovely little dogs very protective over women and really easy to train. also they have a lovely long silky coat and papillion is french for butterfly dog because of the way their hair grows out and around their ears.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Toy Poodle i have 5 myself lovely little dogs, but they do need to be clipped every 6 to 8 weeks to keep there coat nice.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

visit akc.org for breeds ...good luck :o)

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

just remember the smaller they are......the more health risks involved. I could be wrong as I am not a small dog owner but most of those dogs full grown that fit into your hand were diliberately bred to be that small and they can come with health risk because of being bred in a manner to get them so small........

Good luck finding a healthy one......

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

you should try this link:

http://www.selectsmart.com/beta_dog/inde...

it's helped me and my neighbor....make sure you answer all the questions truthfully or to the best of your knowledge for the best pick. it'll give you the best pick from1-100. it should only take you about a couple of minutes to answer them all..

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Something that small (there isn't any dog that small) would probably have the metabolism of a humming bird and be difficult to keep.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Most toy breeds.

Shitz shu,yorkshire terrier

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

the affenpinscher is a loyal and intelligent dog-also the schipperke has a similar nature-they are both not that common either

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

I hope this can help you a bit.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

A maltese...

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

a scottie

chiwawa idk if i spelled that right

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

well the problem is many of the very small dog breeds are known for having health issues and temperament issues.......im glad you are doing your research, but something you need to consider is you need to go to a licensed breeder for this type of dog.....not a pet store or puppy mill. i cant think of any that will fit in your hand....but a few are out there that are just a little bigger,im gonna list the relatively low maintance small dogs (under 10 lbs or so ) that i know of.....you can research from there

Chihuahua

miniature dachsund

miniature pinscher

pomeranian(long haired so take a little extra care)

your best bet is to go to www.akc.org and look up toy breeds there, there will be details about every type of dog imaginable.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

It is my experience that the smaller the dog, the higher the maintenance.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Chihuahua's are small, but that can cause issues. Such as, constantly watching where the dog is so you will not squish it.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Great Dane

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Why not just get a hamster?

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

This happened right after we got him about 8 months ago. It is very small but the hair never grew back, although there is no redness and he has been healthy since we have had him. He is a 1 year old pit mix...

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

You should go to his vet and see what they can do or think of what it is.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

It could be possible that he lays on it all the time. My lab used to have bald spots of thick skin on her elbows because of the way she laid on them. Or maybe something he does causes him to rub it against something.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

Depending on where the area is, it could possibly be from being vaccinated. Sometimes when animals are vaccinated, generally with the rabies vaccine, they have an area that just wont grow hair. It's not uncommon and generally not threatening to your pet. I would ask your Veterinarian what he/she thinks, they would be able to tell you exactly what it could be from. I hope this helps :)

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

Could it be from the leash or tags? Hard to say really. Take him to the vet and see what they say. Better to be safe than sorry. But sounds like something might be rubbing against it a lot and gradually taking the fur off. But try the vet and get a more professional statement.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

My dog had the same problem but on a much larger scale. I put her on Aloe Vera pills (1 a day) hidden in a small amount of meat so they gobble it without tasting the pill. And 1 tablespoon of liquid DoggieDophilus mixed in about 2 - 3 tablespoons of vanilla or plain yogurt every day. Both can be found in a healthfood store. This boosts the immune system and promtes the hair to grow back in. It works. It may take some time but be consistant. Good Luck!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

She is almost 2 years old and has begun to loose patches of hair on her back and around the base of her tail. They started small and are becoming larger. It is like the skin begins to scab and as the scabs fall off so does the hair. The hair is not growing back and in the areas where the hair has been lost it just looks a bit red. Like if you were to pick off a scab that had heeled underneath. I'm worried because she has also become more lethargic and sleeps twice as much as before. I'm doubtful that it is mange. I have had experiance with that in another dog in the past and this is not near as bad and it does not seem to itch her. Please help!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

It's a flea allergy. Get her some Front Line and it will eventually go away on its own. You could get the vet to give her a cortisone shot to relieve her symptoms right away but it isn't necessary.

c-ya

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

We had the same problem with our dog in the same spot. It could be a hot spot.or fleas.....if so we use this stuff called Hot Spot Skin Remedy. From sergeants. You can get it at any pet store. It works good. And for the fleas...Front line works great! But try that.hot spot stuff too It relieves the itching alot. But if that doesn't work then i would take her in. I know bulldogs sometimes have skin problems...well at least ours did. But good luck.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

TAKE HER TO THE VET!!! this might be serious!!!!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

I'll second the "take her to the vet" answer. She depends on you for her health. Please find a vet for her.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

It sounds like mange. Fleas do not cause this.. Just because it looks different does not mean it is not mange. There are many different kinds of mange as well as severities.

Get it to the vet.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

dogs do that when they lay on the ground and flys will hittem up to. wat it do?Al out.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

its called mange, get the dog to the vet they will give you meds to take care of it..

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

My friend had the same breed and the same problem. You can use a gentle soothing shampoo like oatmeal or chamomile for dogs. Also there is food available for dogs with sensitive skin. Try Science Diet, also i like to put a dash of vegetable oil in my dogs food when she is a bit flakey. Think about where she sleeps and things like that because she could be having a reaction to cleaning products and dogs can be allergic to grasses and things like that.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be a staff infection, food, flea or grass allergy, possibly thyroid disease. Your vet will be able to give you a more educated answer. He can do a skin scrap or some blood tests to diagnose the hair loss.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be allergies, infection, or disease.

To determine what it is, the vet needs to take a skin sample and analyze it.

Way too many possible causes for even a vet to diagnosis over the internet.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be worse... There has been an outbreak of a ferocious mange caused by contact with feral (wild) cats... Tried the old-fashioned remedies of dipping and GOODWINOL, which were pretty ineffective, and wound up having to give a daily dosage of IVERMECTIN (the monthly heart-worm preventative) over a period of 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the progress of the dog, but the fact is that the mites that had started to lay eggs died within 3 days and the dog started to show remarkable improvement almost immediately... The veterinarian was never able to see live mites under the microscope even though he did 2 skin scrapings... But the scabs were just gross and I'll be glad to send you pictures for comparison if you want to see them. He's fully cured now... Ask your veterinarian about possibly trying this course of treatment.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

First it started near his thighs and now it is spreading to top of his body . Hair in this region is dropping followed by red rashes. Can this problem be solved and will his skin come to normal condition... he even feels itchy in this region ....

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

What you've described sounds like ringworm. Get an anti-fungal treatment from your vet. Be careful, ringworm is very contagious! Keep him away from other pets and children, and do not let him on your furniture.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Uh... this requires a vet obviously.

We can't cure him; the correct treatment from a vet can.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like ring worm. Get some anti fungal medication for your pup before the infection spreads to you.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like a visit to the vet is in order - they can put him on meds to help with the infection and something to help relieve the itch!

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like it may either be a food allergy or demodex mange. You need to get him to the vet for a skin scrapping.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

it is ringworm. And yes it can be fixed and the skin will return to normal. Just put iodine on it twice a day until it clears up, If you dont access to Iodine, then put watered down bleach on it. It will dry it out and kill the bacteria, which will in turn make the fungus go away. Ringworm is not actually a worm, so dont be worried, it is just fungus as you said. If the iodine nad bleach do not help then take him to the vet because he may have demadex, a skin disease.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

If I were you I would take my dog to a vet to determine just what type of rash he has and whether or not it affects you. It is usually a matter of them taking a scraping or swab from the area and checking it under a microscope. Sometimes rashes require a biopsy to determine what is going on.

Also, you want to make sure he doesn't get a secondary skin infection that requires antibiotics.

Good Luck!

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

If its red, round and has a ring like bump then its ring worms. Get so anti-fungal shampoo. Don't touch it or you will get it. Call a vet if it gets worse

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

it sounds like ringworm... get lotrimin ultra cream for athletes foot and wash the area and put the cream on it at least 2 times a day... it's much cheaper and works just as well as the cream that the vet would prescribe

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

How long has he had it? Usually ringworm takes awhile to spread. If it's spread that much you still need a vet.

Mine had a small, nickel sized spot, on his forehead when he was a pup (gave it to our female as well, same spot). The vet gave us some antifungal, that cost $10 from him. But we could have gotten the exact same thing from wal mart for $3 or $4. So go to wal mart and get some antifungal cream. Put it on and keep your dog from licking it. You may need to get an E-collar from the vet. If it spreads, or doesn't start clearing up within a week, you will still need to go to the vet.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

It's ring worm. That's a fungus. Any fungicide will kill it. Try monostat, tolnaftate, any athlete's foot creme, any vaginal fungicide creme, etc.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

go to your veterinarian and have it checked out. it could be ringworm, demodex, sarcoptic mange, or allergic reactions. the last two will definately make them itchy and sarcoptic mange is contagious to people!!! all can be treated.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

I will confess that after just losing one of my golden's to cancer, I am very worried about my 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd. I was petting him over really good today...just checking him out today and I found a "tag" of sorts on his tail...it was about an inch long and hard. I dug through his hair and touched it and this hard mass of skin fell off. I then examined it closely and, this is nasty, but it is a definite hole with red lumpy tissue pushing through..the lump is hard. You can push the skin down around the lump so the skin is not attached to this lump. I do not know what to make of this and can not find anything on the internet that looks like it. Picture a donut with a hole in the middle and pushing a red napkin through it. That is what it looks like.

I would like to add that in the morning I am calling my vet so I am taking him into to be looked at when I can get him in. I am not going to let this go after losing my dog to oral squamous cell carcinoma just 2 1/2 mths ago.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

Maybe it's a bad infection...try putting hydrogen peroxide on it, I'm glad you're going to the vet...I'll pray it's nothing serious...good luck!

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

hi it is what you call an abscess just get it cut off the dog will still have a stub trust me its not a big deal

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

I hope your dogs lump isnt anything bad!

I would listen to what the vet says about the lump is my answer.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

If your dog goes outside alot this may be the problem. My dog had 9 puppies and instead of keeping them in the house, she dug a hole and put them in the dirt. After they started to stagger a little, we noticed that 2 of them had a large clump on their tail while another one had it on his foot. We washed it thinking that it was dirt and it didn't come off so we took one of them to the vet. The vet looked it over and he said that it was just a fungus from being in the dirt so he gave us some antibiotics spray and we sprayed them once a day. The clump was somewhat long and brown. It was dry looking and rusty looking. It also looked like the skin was peeling a little but when we toched it they didn't even flinch and they still have full feeling in their tails and feet.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

My black lab has been scratching all over for over a month. In fact, it's so bad that she's scratching off her hair in certain spots.

We recently moved to the suburbs from the city, so we now have a yard that she likes to roll around in. We thought it was insects, so we now use K-9 Advantix. This doesn't seem to be working.

Since the house is only a few months old, we also thought it could be a reaction to some building material, like carpet.

About the only other things we can think of are either the laundry detergent we use to wash her bed liner, or the fact that we have hard water where we live.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Most likely it is allergies. A lot of dogs get it during the summer months when the weather gets warmer. Although some dogs have it year round. It is kind of hard to say what triggers it just like humans there are so many different things but you can try bathing your dog with an oatmeal based shampoo once or twice a week. This is really soothing to them. However if you notice that it is not getting any better, you should take him to the vet so that they can get a shot to relieve the skin of the itching. Depending on how bad it is, the shot can last anywhere from 1-3months. getting it done periodically will help keep the itching to a minimum. If he has chronic allergies, there are also pills that you can get from the vet so that your trip to and from the office are set to a minimum. Good Luck!

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Ask your vet

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

What are you feeding her? If you are not feeding her a high quality diet this could be the reason she is scratching. Try switching her to a higher quality, more natural food such as Solid Gold. Those so called "name" brand foods have many ingerdients that can cause allergies. Corn is one of the worst ingredients for causing allergies.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

fleas?? it could be many things...ask your vet

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

it is probably an allergy of some sort if its not fleas or insects, try switching detergants or try other flea medication

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

I would take here to the vet- it could be an allergy or it could be mange...our dog had it as a pup.

If it is an allergy, they can give your dog meds to treat it.

If mange, they will bathe her once a week in a treatment to get rid of it- it takes several weeks of treatments however.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

This happened to one of my cats. Sounds like allergies to me, but bring her to the vet to be sure. Keep in mind that people and animals can develop allergies to something they were previously not allergic to. I started feeding my cat sensitive skin food from science diet...see if they have one for dogs, it may help her.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Your dog might be having allergies. A lot of the time, it majorly affects their skin - which would explain the major itching.

Could be the yard, new carpet (this affected my Yorkie for a while), or even if you changed your dogs food. As for the laundry detergent, try free %26amp; clear by All, or another detergent for sensitive skin. My detergents tabs not only irritated my poochie, but I had major eczema outbreaks for the first time in my life! If you think it is the carpet, vacuum vacuum vacuum, until your vacuum isn't just filling with the carpet fibers (this can take vacuuming daily for weeks).

For more info, try contacting a local vet. They'll be able to tell you for sure. Maybe even try an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner to sooth your pup's skin when bathing as well.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

It's true, your dog has most likely developed allergies. Changing his food is a good first option - what are you feeding him?

Check with your vet, but giving Benadryl can ease the symptoms while you figure out what it is that is irritating your dog. It could be one or all of the things that you mention - it could be the ingredients in his food - lots of things to consider.

Dr. Pitcairn's book on natural foods for your dog may help. There are a lot of recipes in there for dogs with medical issues.

http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?I...

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

give her a bath.. use a good dog shampoo

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

I have a Peke with the same problem....one thing that I can verify - K9 Advantix didn't work at all with my dog. We switched back to Frontline Plus. With Frontline, we saw no trace of fleas or ticks....I switched to K9 before summer, because we live near a reservoir and mosquitoes tend to get bad in the hot summer. Supposedly K9 works on mosquitoes too - however, I could see no evidence that it worked at all - within a few days I had gotten 8 ticks off of her - so I switched back to Frontline as soon as I could. Now, as far as the itching, switching to a good quality food is supposed to help (I switched to Wellness) and also, someone sent me this website link and told me to start my pup on Fresh Factor, which I have done. I haven't given it to her long enough yet to see a difference, so we'll see. In the meantime, I went to my pet store and bought some hydrocortisone for dogs and spray her with that. I was told not to bathe her very often because that could cause dry skin and make her itch worse. I am doing everything possible to avoid a "precription allergy medication" for her, because our vet said that prolonged use could damage her kidneys....I'll also be glad to see if anyone else give you any useful advice that I can "steal" :-)

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

my dog lucky is 6, shes about 20 lbs, blach fur (links to pictures below). i've had her since she was 1, but she got her from a shelter and do not know what breed she is.. we were told a pekinese/cocker spaniel mix maybe but we don't think so. when we cut her hair she gets mistaken for a black lab puppy.

any input?? ~thanks~

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/229/l...

http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/7440/...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

A mix. She looks like she has some sort of spaniel in her...definately looks like a cocker spaniel mix...but the shelter was probably just guessing at the other part. It is so hard to say when they are a mix - as long as she is a great dog...it shouldn't really matter. I doubt there is any Lab in her if she is that small. Very cute!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

it looks like a pekanese mix not lab i raised labs but got one with cocker in it Report It

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

terrier/mix

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I don't think it matters what she is because so darn CUTE!! my dog is a giant mutt part Dalmatian border collie and pointer and some other dogs

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Looks like she may have some Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) and possibly some Pappion. My guess anyway

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She sure is a sweetie, regardless of the breed. I would never have guessed she was six years old. You can tell by the eyes she's sharp as a tack. You're very lucky to have such an adorable baby. Lots of love, kindness and patience will give her a nice long life with you.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

ask your vet on your next visit

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Definitely you can see both breeds, the head shape and eyes are pekingeses and I can plainly see Cocker as well. The shelter was right. If people are mistaking her for a black lab pup they are just not familiar with the breeds. I have worked as a Vet tech for 15 years and volunteered at animals shelters , I am speaking from quite a bit of experience.Check out puppydogweb.com for pictures of purebred dogs and see what I mean.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She does appear to be a Peke/Cocker mix. She is her own breed though...the name of her breed is ADORABLE

Here are pics of puppies of that designer dog breed, called Cockinese..%26gt; http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

Definitely got terrier in her. Probably a mutt. It doesn't really matter, though, she's ADORABLE either way!

Shelter is right, here are pekingese and cocker mix pictures and info below.

I'm not so sure about pekinese because I do not ever remember seeing a black one before. Lab they do come in black. Got the cocker spaniel face though. Could be cocker spaniel/Lab mix.

She's a mutt ... the best kind of dog there is. Judging from the shape of her muzzle, it's probably likely that she does have Pekingese.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Easy! You have a cocker spaniel/chawawa(dunno how to spell) maybe in earlier generations I can see a bit of pomeranian with her snout. she looks like a bit of the flat little pekinese because of her body shape and ears, that could easily be mistaken, but she has very little, if any. good luck with this cutie!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

In your pictures i cant see her tail usually you can tell a lot about a breed with the looks of their tails...to me she looks like she may have spanial in her and possibly terrior. but its really hard to tell by not being able to see her standing up to see her body shape and stance and the way her tail goes.

try measureing her height and looking up dog breeds look at her tail in the way it hangs and also the softness or coursness of her hair also the body shape that might tell you a lot of what breeds she may have in her...some times its really hard to tell .

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

no

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She looks EXACTLY like our Border Collie/Lab/Mystery dog mix except she's a little smaller. My guess is probably a Border Collie/Terrier mix. The Lab would make her at least 10 pounds heavier.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

i'm going with a cocker spanial/pomorainain.... does"nt matter any way, she's one of a kind. you'll never be able to replace her. just enjoy her and rember shelter dogs are the best!!!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

she looks like a pekeapoo to me. (pekenese/poodle mix)

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I see the cocker spaniel and what might be terrier...
