I have a new puppy, he is 3 months old. Hes had his shots and such a week ago and I have started him on the Advantage, has anyone else noticed bad breath after application? It is a funny formaldahyde hair salonish smell, I am sorry for the poor description but thats just the bet way I can describe it. I have brushed his teeth and such to no avail so far. I think it has something to do with the Advantage though as that is the ONLY thing we have done differently, and it started about an hour or 2 after we applied it! Has anyone else had this experience???

I use the same product and I have never noticed the smell you describe. Then again, I do not make it a habit to smell my dogs breath.
Dog breath after advantage application?
Wow, that's an intense reaction to the Advantage! Well - doggie skin absorbs medicines quickly (which is why Advantage works) and so I guess it's "normal" for this to happen. But, yuck.
There's info about natural flea and tick control on the Web, which I'm switching over to. It's basically a combination of brewers' yeast in their food, plys herbal tinctures in their water. A Google search should give you more info.

Maybe because the puppy is chewing or licking at the Advantage. I use Advantage, too, but I've never noticed that before. And that comment about making sure the pup can't get to it when you put it on them. No. You HAVE to put it in between the shoulder blades and the base of the tail as this is where the fleas go. I understand the most popular place they go is the belly area but they love the base of the tail. I am a dog groomer at Petsmart and we have a Vet hospital in the store and sometimes people come in with their flea drops asking us to apply it for them. Just watch the pup for a bit after you apply it so he doesn't CONSTANTLY lick at the area. Mine licks at the area a little bit but that's because I just applied it. Also, dogs are suppose to have their teeth brushed like we do. I know its a pain in the butt to do this everyday but it will ensure a long life of happy teeth and happy breath. FYI: They LOVE the peanut flavored toothpaste you can get your pet store.
