Why does my dog wheeze?

My toy breed dog seems to wheeze every once in a while. It sounds sort of like what a cat sounds like when it is trying to hack up a hair ball, but in this case, the sound is coming from the back of his throat. Does anybody have any idea why he does that?

Why does my dog wheeze?

"Tis allergy season.. or reverse sneezing..I would get it checked out by a vet to be sure..

Why does my dog wheeze?

I am a professional Veterinarian i work in the field of Veterinary Science... if you own a pug like I, you may find your pug wheezing, coughing, snezzing this is all normal!!!

dont worry Issebelle Report It

Why does my dog wheeze?

I have Pugs and they wheez because of there nose what do you have. Pugs I think are th worst in wheezing and snoring

Why does my dog wheeze?

Breed is important, brachysyphallic breeds (like pugs) are at risk for collapsed tracheas. Also important to know is your dog's age, heart disease in older dogs causes coughing.

For a short-nosed dog, you need to see your vet about surgical correction, because collapsted trachea is practically irrepairable, and can cause serious life-threatening problems. For an older dog, you still need to see your vet, he may need medication to stave off heart failure.

Why does my dog wheeze?

If he's not choking on anything, he probably has breathing problems. You should take him to the vet %26amp; get him checked, he must be very uncomfortable at the least.

Why does my dog wheeze?

It sounds like he is probably reverse sneezing. My roommates beagle does this alot, especially when she gets excited about something. It is caused when the dogs soft palate does not lay back in their throat properly as a dogs soft palate can move where ours cannot. It's nothing to be worried about and it cannot hurt him. If he ever gets into fits where is he doing this you can hold his mouth shut and blow lightly into his nose. I know this sounds odd or even mean but its not because it forces air back against the soft palate and it corrects itself. Otherwise you have to wait for him to breathe through his nose again to correct it on his own. But for as odd as it sounds it won't hurt him at all!

Why does my dog wheeze?

I am a Vet tech student; I may be able to help. I would take your dog to the Vet if this is becoming more frequent or if it's happening when the dog becomes excited. Since he is a little dog he may have a collapsing Trachea(windpipe) and it can be very serious. Take him in ASAP if he seems to be having difficult time breathing. Hope I helped.

Why does my dog wheeze?

ask a vet

Why does my dog wheeze?

If the dog is brachycephalic (squash faced like pug) the wheezing would seem to come from the face and be accompanied by some clear snot occasionally. Is he brachycephalic? This doesn't sound much like a description of that sort of wheezing.

Here's a list of things it could be:

+ backwards sneeze (common but still needs to be checked out as it is often caused by irritation in the throat, like enlarged tonsils)

+ coughing as a result of heart problems - does it happen more often after exercise of any kind? Not good if so!

+ kennel cough (which is a hacking kind of cough)

+ collapsing trachea - can be controlled with meds, doesn't always need surgical correction, depends on the severity. Especially common in Yorkies.

If you think this type of cough/hack is not just because the dog has a squashed face, I really would advise having him checked over and discussing this with the vet.

Why does my dog wheeze?

Could be an asama problem....dogs can get asama and allergies too just like a human.

Long hair chihuahua - AKC help!?

My long-hair chihuahua is registered in the AKC (American Kennel Club). She is pure bred. The AKC standard says chihuahuas are not supposed to weigh more than 6 pounds but my chihuahua weighs 8 pounds. Are they going to kick her out of their kennel club if they find out my dog has gained some weight?

Long hair chihuahua - AKC help!?

No they won't kick her out because she doesn't meet the standard. The standard is what breeders are suppose to go by when breeding...dogs that don't meet the standard should not be bred and they can't be shown in conformation.

Most Pets don't meet the standard in one way or another. This is why resp[onsible breeders sell them with spay/neuter agreements %26amp; limited registration.

Long hair chihuahua - AKC help!?

No, most dogs do not fit the AKC standard of the way the ideal dog is supposed to look and that is why most dogs are (or should be) sold as pets. If she is truly oversized and not just fat, your breeder should have sold her to you as a pet with a limited registration.

Long hair chihuahua - AKC help!?

No that's just the standard they prefer but she wouldn't be able to be shown since she is "over sized"

Where I live it's very hard to get one under 8 pounds most are closer to 12-14 pounds but still AKC registered.

If she is a pet just spay her and love her as a nice little pet if you want to breed make sure you find a Small male preferably 4-5 pounds to try to compensate for the weight.

Long hair chihuahua - AKC help!?

The AKC standard Say's a dog under 6 pounds...Good responsible breeders don't breed dogs that are over the size limits....if you want 5 pound puppies at maturity the only way to get that is to breed 5 pound adults together that came from 5 pound adults that came from 5 pound adults. It takes several generations to get uniformity in size .....How over sized chihuahuas happen is, from BYB's , puppymills and inexperienced breeders that think if you take a 12 pound female and use a small male on her you'll balance out the size of the puppies(puppymills like to breed a huge female to a small male so the risk of c-section is less and profit is increased and litters of 8-9 are common) , But all you'll get from breeding different size dogs are some huge puppies like mom and some small ones like daddy. The AKC is just a registry, they will register any size chihuahua if the breeder registered the litter and once you registered your puppy they can't take the reg away even if you told them she was 8 pounds. .

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

Weve built them a large dog house, put invisible fence wire down around the places we don't want them to dig, inside our privacy fence. We will still bring them in, in the evenings to sleep with us and spend time, but during daylight hours, we'd like them to spend more time outside. They (there's 4, two huskies and two mutts) are used to spending all day inside with me, but with a baby on the way, we'd like to keep the dog hair to a minimum. They all shed terribly bad (I burn out a vaccuum every 4- 6 months) and tend to get rowdy in the house. Most of this was fine (minus the rowdiness), until we found out the chances of the baby being asthmatic are in the high 90's.

In order to keep the house mostly hair free and safe for baby, this is the only alternative short of getting rid of them, which my husband and Idont want to do. When we let them out longer than potty time, they herd around the door or tear at the glass.

Any suggestions on how to keep them happy and safe out there?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

Get yourself a Dyson Pet vacuum - It'll be the best $500 you've ever spent.

As far as keeping them outside, do you live somewhere warm like Florida? Build a large dog run for them within the yard (You can get great 6x6 chain link panels at Home Depot that you clamp together - They have a door panel too).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

Maybe some stuffed Kongs or a pool if they like them and the weather is good (you can get a plastic one for less than $10 at Wal-Mart). Also, try this stuff. I use it with my shepherds and they only shed when I take them off it so they can blow coat (you MUST take them off and allow them to blow coat once or twice a year depending on how often/when they would do it in your area). http://www.inflightcoatformula.com/ FYI I am not a distributor and I won't be paid for getting you to buy this. I just think it works really well and enjoy not having dog hair all over all the time. It brings coats in really full and thick but slows/stops excessive shedding. Takes very little to work and is easy to mix right into the dog's food.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

BE CAREFUL!!! Some animal rights activist who thinks dogs are 4 legged furry people will get you r account deleted if you say you want to keep your dog outside...

My account will probably get deleted (reported FOR SURE) for suggesting you build a really LARGE dog house so they cn all fit inside and keep warm toghether because they are pack ANIMALS, (NOT humans).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

your not going to like my answer at all!

But have you thought about maybe rehoming 3 of them or maybe all 4,your already stressing %26amp; your baby isnt here yet.

The baby is going to take up so much of your time i found it hard with one dog never mind four.Im not saying people with kids shoulnt have 4 dogs but already there getting chucked outside to make the house more pleasent for the baby.

Think about it very carefully,At the moment youve got to think whats best for your dogs.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my inside dogs to stay outside during the day?

They used to have both the house and the yard to live in and now their home has shrunk considerably especially if the yard is small. They are probably bored and upset by this negative turn of events so it will help to make the outside much more fun than the inside ever was.

I would leave all the best things for outside including food, treats, toys, time with the family, etc. You might even drive the point home by making the inside a place for baths, grooming, nail clipping and the like.

I would also increase their time walking in the neighborhood, going to parks, etc. even after the baby comes (you may have to hire some walkers) comes so they do not feel like things have gotten worse.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

I was just wondering if anyone cuts their own dogs hair at all and did it work out ok? My dog has curly fur and gets very hot very quickly and the salon charges at least 鎷?3 a time. Would it best to do a grooming course to learn properly?

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

I bought a dog shaving kit from argos it comes with video, my little dog had really thick wild hair so I used to shave it off in summer, takes awhile but she didnt seem to mind kept having breaks and giving her treats she looked so cute when she had bin done. So yeah give it a go you cant really do it wrong with a shaver because you set the length you want and thats it.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

If he's used to the noise of the clippers, it should be straightforwards to cut - but to get it looking tidy just takes practice! The first few times you do it he'll have 'scissor marks' which are like straight lines. If you can put up with that just do it yourself. If it would bother you then do a course.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

The secret to a good doggy haircut is in the equipment they use, and that's quite expensive, hence the 鎷?3. I've tried doing my own dog with an electric trimmer intended for humans and it was not a pretty sight, but he didn't care and was much cooler. Depends how fussy your dog is.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

i have two dogs the female i cut /trim with scissors and a comb i always make sure the comb is between her skin and the scissors, and she is generally happy to sit there and allow me to do this. The male gets pretty aggressive and wont let me snip and comb the hair around certain areas, nor sit still for much, so i get out the hair clippers and he gets kinda scared of em, so it stops him trying to bite me, and i jsut shave him the best i can for the summer.

You should attempt to do it yourself, if you find you have one of them dogs who wont sit still and its just too much of a drama for you then send em to the salon.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

It's a heck of a lot cheeper (FREE ) to do it yourself , and the dog doesn't care what he / she looks like , other wise they wouldn't lick their own a$$ in public ! As long as you don't cut or stick them , you will do fine !

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

If you want your dog to look nice, Invest the money and go to the groomer !Meanwhile between goomers, learn how to trim your dog by paying for the course.Dont make him look bad,he /she likes to look good also !

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

We have a cocker with long hair and we cut it ourselves all the time. It's just so much easier, you need two people, one to hold her and talk to her and the other to chop and just do little bits at a time and you'll be fine.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

if you have the know how and pet likes your grooming fine, if they take a fit it is best for groomer.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

It depends if you are fussy about what your dog looks like - as he/she wont care. I used to cut my dogs hair (when he was alive). He was curly too, and it turned out fine. Just dont take too long over it or the dog will get bored and restless and thats when you can accidently cut them. Give it a go - then you can spend the money you save on nice treats for you and doggie !

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

yes it's easy, but the dog will look like **** when you're finished and he won't thank you for it when he can't get any action

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

Same as we have to pay for our Pappilion, the wife get scissors out and tidy`s her up but after awhile it`s of to the parlour with her, coming home, when finished she smell

lovely with the pink ribbon round her neck, this happens four or five times a year so ime afraid there is no easy way unless

you want your dog to luck like nobody owns it.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

dog do not sweat like people do. so they do not get hot like we do. so cutting the hair will not make them cooler. just easier to take care of. the only dogs who do sweat are the chinese chrested or the other no hair dogs. grooming a dog is not as easy as it looks. that is why most people take there dog to a groomer.

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

taking a class would be a great idea -

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

Get a shorthaired dog :-D

Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

I would have to say that if you are willing to put in the extra time it is definitely worth doing it yourself. I wouldn't think that you would need to so to school just to cut your own dogs fur. Practice makes perfect. I have 2 St. Poodles myself and I groom them myself and learned the technique from a DVD How to groom your dog. $60 x 2 every 6 weeks was just too expensive for me and I have saved lots of money and several funny haircuts latter I throughly enjoy doing it now. Good Luck!

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

1.every morning when I take a shower for school. my dog will be by the door, and he comes in when im in the shower and he gets in the garbage can and gets everything in there and eats it?

example of what he gets: like my pads, hair from the comb/brush,tissues.etc.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

That is a very dangerous thing to let the dog do. either put the garbage where he can't get it or close the bathroom door so he can't get in.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

A 70 year old dog?

Call the Guiness Book. I'm sure you broke the record for oldest dog!

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

You doggy had anxiety separation. When dogs get old they get strange; like people. When you shower put the trash can on top of the toilet and out of his reach. He is seeking things that smell like you for comfort. Close the bathroom door.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

He does it because he's a dog. The things in there carry scent that draws him.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

Lock the bathroom door when you shower.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

So close the door. DUH

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

This is natural for all dogs to do at any age. My dog is 35 in dog years. 5 in regular. We used to leave her in the house unwatched when we left. when we came back we found all the trashcans tipped over and sometimes she was still digging when we walked in. So this is very normal for any dog.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

dogs will be dogs. they lick their own butts! dogs will eat things they are not supposed to but it is our job to make sure we keep things out of their reach. i have to put my bathroom trash can on the back of the toilet so my dog will stop eating out of it.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

my rat terrior does the same thing he would eat panies, pads anything with odor to them i dont know they just do i just kept my dog out or put my trash up

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

Your dog has Separation Anxiety..dogs know your routines. He knows you will be leaving him soon so he acts out letting you know he doesn't want you to leave(hes pissed at you)...change up your routine in the morning and he will stop.

Example..my dog starts acting out when she hears my car keys..sometimes getting in the trash.

Why does my dog do this.. it's kinda gross to.?

my dog does this too if u dont keep it boxed in this will keep happening notn serious

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

What is the best upholstery material to use for a home with large dogs? I am going to reupholster our couch, and I want to choose a material which will hold up in a home with dogs. I was thinking about leather because it is much easier to clean dog hair off, but I am afraid they will scratch the material. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

I have big dogs and we have Leather because I hate hair on a fabric couch. We only buy Football leather material. It stands up to EVERYTHING. It is the best thing for people with dogs. It cleans easy, brush the hair right off, never gets a dog smell, and the football leather is very tough but comfortbale!

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

All i have to say is NO leather lol We had a 3000 dollar leather set and it was ruined in a year ..Scratches plus they like to chew it ..

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

I would think leather would be the best, because it is so easy to clean, like you said.

My parents have leather furniture, and their three dogs have not scratched it or chewed it (although they are all Shih Tzu crosses, so they are smaller)

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

I've heard that leather is really good. If you get good leather. If you get the cheap leather, they will scratch it and poke holes in it.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

Denim. You can get in different colors now even. We are looking at a green denim for our next couch.

It is very durable and hard for nails to puncture plus the fur comes off easy.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

Yes do get leather, and use large decorative blankets to cover the couch with or put soft paws on the dogs nails to prevent scratches

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

You're right, leather will scratch or tear from their nails, at least that's been my experience. I've given up on having nice stain free furniture with pets and kids :) I found just putting a throw blanket on the furniture works best, and when company comes take it off.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

in my experience micro fiber is good, the pet hair easily comes off.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

i do uphostery and i would say deniem or keep the fabric you have get a micro fiber cover over the furniture. i have seen lots of damaged furniture due to big dogs. if worse comes to worse contact me :-D

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

we just put an old comforter over the couch to protect it.. that way you can throw it in the washer and dryer as needed...

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

I had microfiber for years - which I was constantly vacuuming hair from - as well as hiding the chewed spots. eventually as they got older, I bought a 2500$ fine italian leather sofa. I covered it and forbid them to get on it. after about 2 weeks of watching them lay their heads on it and look at me with big cow eyes, I crumbled and allowed them to get up on it as long as it was covered. after the cover slipped off 87,000 times I just gave up. I still have the sofa, its about 8 years later, the sofa still looks as good as new without a single scratch on it.

btw, I had 4 pitbulls.

I believe its the difference between fine soft leather and the cheaper hard leather. still, you should take precautions and cover it for the doggies. uncover it for guests.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

Several of my friends with big dogs have leather sofas %26amp; insist it's the best way to go. I am not a leather fan though.

I have a sofa that is mutlicolor browns with a slight texture that hides everything wonderfully, especially short fawn colored boxer hairs.

Best couch fabric for a home with large dogs?

We have two very hairy dogs and a very hairy cat---we have the micro suede furniture (faux suede) it cleans up very well!

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

Do you think he is by the photos, look up wirehaired dachshund. Please do not judge him based on a dachshund or :wienie dog: because WH's do not resemble smooth coat or long haired at all. Thanks! If possible tell me what you think he is.

We usually keep him cut in a schnauzer haircut. Or shaved because his hair is hard to manage. One photo his hair is longer.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I do dachshund rescue, and that is a charming wirehair dachshund without doubt.

I fostered one for 8 months until the perfect home for him came up.

Nice dogs, but mine needed grooming every 8 weeks or so or he looked like a wookie. I always had his beard clipped too because it got in his water dish. Never mind the leggy remarks, some dachsies have longer legs than others without being mixed - have had some that could jump over the sofa and a 4 foot fence.

They're real clowns and very affectionate. Handsome boy you have there.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I absolutely do think he looks like a wirehaired dachshund.

**I also agree with the poster below me, his legs are a Little long, so he May be a schnauzer/dachshund mix.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

In my opinion, he's too leggy and too big to be a purebred Dachshund. He does look part Dachshund though. I would say a Schnauzer/Dachshund mix.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

yup thats what they look like, hes kinda chubby

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

my dad has a wire-haired dachshund, he looks just like yours :-)

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I think it is a wirehair dachshund mix. Its legs are too long to be a purebred. Most wires have a short coarse coat, so if you have to keep it cut like a schnauzer, it is mixed with something else. He is cute though.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

All I know is that he's adorable!!

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

He does look like a wirehaired dachhund.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

So cute, never heard of that kind but he sure looks like it!

Trust the vet......

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

well i looked it up on yahoo and ya i'd say he looks like a wired hair dachshund. i've never seen one before, didn't realize they looked nothing like the other dachshunds.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

He looks like he has some wired haired dachshund in him, but not pure bred.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

Your dog is cute but his legs are to long to be a dashound. A wirehaired dashound has very wirey hair all over. If this was a dashound his legs would be half as short. He could be part dashound maybe! Definitely not full! I raise dashounds! Did you get papers with him when you bought him??? I would hope not because he isn't full blood.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

Looks like a Dachshund mix to me . . .very cute!

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

Its definetly a wire haired breed of some sort, but he does kinda look similar to a mix of a Border Terrier aswell. Heres a link to look for yourself, good luck of finding out what he is!!

http://www.akc.org/breeds/border_terrier...

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I think agree with the vet wire haired dachshund

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

But I also agree with the people who said Wire haired Durand/ Schnauzer mix

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I would say Wirehaired Dachshund. I have one also. They do tend to have more leg than the other 2 varities of the Dachshund. It is easier to keep them shaved if you don't have the time to pull the hiar. I personally like to pull the hair, it keeps the hair more hard than if you use clippers on them.

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I think you need to trim his nails! How does the clicking not drive you nuts? He looks a bit leggy for a dachshund, but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't purebred. Why would you believe a total stranger over your vet and whomever you got your dog from anyway?

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

I think he has wire haired dachshund in him, but I do believe he's mixed with some other breed...his legs are to long to be a dachshund. He's really cute, though....I love his wire haired dachshund face!!!

My vet and where I got my dog say he is a wire haired dachshund.?

He does resemble a wirehaired Dachshund, but the fact that you cut his hair (and his long legs) makes me think he is probably mixed with something else.
