i have a poodle and her hair is very long( we didnt cut it because we felt that she was going to be cold when it snowed.) its the first time she has seen snow., but thats not the problem. the problem is that she enjoys going out side and all, but the snow is high this time. and because of her hair, it sticks all over her paws and then it is very difficult to get out( only with water. do you think that if i cut the hair on her paws and a little on her legs this could make the snow NOT stick? or would it just make her cold?
My dog and snow....?
I would definiately trim her hair. If the hair is long there, mats can form very easily. If they are getting wet, they are getting tighter and twisting each time they dry. Imagine a hard, twisted hairball between your toes you have to walk on-not pleasant.
If it's not matter you could just ask your groomer to scissor the hair even with the pad rather than shave it. This way she still has some protection there, but not interfering with her traction or getting matted up.
If you're concerned about her being cold you can get her a coat and yes, even boots. Most dogs though don't really feel the cold as we do in normal circumstances. I just wouldn't leave her out for prolonged periods.

LMAO,, she gets "snowballs" on her feet,,, ALL DOGS DO, that is because her feet have sweat glands,, relax,, as soon as she comes inside, she will get right to work biting off her snowballs and they will melt to.. i wouldn't worry about pouring water on them... lol i am gonna send you a video, shows a sheep with snowballs too.

I think you could cut a very short hair from her paws... And all I know dogs can tolerate severe cold than humans.
