Ok, one of my pets just died and now i am considering a new one. Up at our cabin, there is a guy who owns a Welsh Corgi. He says they're great dogs and make very good pets. I have never hurd of them, but when I met the Corgi they have, i loved it! I am looking into the breed and am liking what i see, but am still a little hesitent on all the complements i am hearing, are they really that great? Maybe, but i need some real imput. What do you think, am i making a good choice?
(Currently i have a black lab, American Short hair cat, and a fish, and i was raised up with lots of horses, cows, chickens, ducks, ect. so its not like i dont have any idea how to take care of animals.)
Are Corgis a Good Breed of Dog?
Hi Chocohol, I have 2 Corgies' they are great companions and very loyal. They bond to the family really well and can be a good little protecter too. Corgie's are the smallest herding dog and are great at herding. A Corgie would fit right in with you and your family specially with all the animals you were raised with. My 2 corgies' love to play ball they never get tired of that game. Happy my male is a big lover boy and loves to put his neck over my neck and gives me a hug that way. Corkie my female is very fast for this breed and would do great on fly ball. They are my family since my 2 daughters has growth up and left.I love them dearly and you cannot go wrong with this breed. They are a great all around pet. LOL LOL... I hope you pick a little Corgie you will be very pleased.
A Friend.

HM The queen of England thinks Corgis are the dog's bollocks.

My sister owns one and they are very hyper dogs and need lots of attention and excerise. They are friendly and great with children from what I know about hers.

They're awesome get them while they're young because they like to herd small animals and little children which results in them biting a bit on their legs. This can easily be taught not to do. They are my favorite breed

They were used as a cattle dog a very long time ago nipping at there legs of the herd, maybe that gives you an idea of their character.
The Queen owns several %26amp; she seems to like them.......

They can be stubborn. They were bred to herd cattle and cattle dogs need to be more stubborn than sheep dogs.
They are bright, and with the right owner and the right training they are very nice dogs. Buy from a good breeder who will inform you of the breeds health issues and what to watch out for.

corgies are herding dogs.. so they will probably chase the cat!!! If I was you, i probably would look into another breed because its very possible that the corgi would chase the cat, and I dont think you would want that.. look into a rescue dog.. they all need homes and you would be saving there life. also mix dogs have great qualities of the mix of breeds. Visit you local animal shelter and see if you can find a submissive, non hyper dog.. that would be best instead of buying a corgi that will probably end up chasing the cat! good luck...

Corgi's are my husbands favourite breed of dog.We had a tri coloured welsh corgi for 7 years(Unfortunately she died while having pups). She was a lovely, loyal dog although she could be a bit snappy and lazy at times.

Good for you for looking in to the Corgi before springing for one!!
Corgis are a herding breed and thus have a lot of energy. They need an outlet or a job to do daily, but it does not have to be herding.
Corgis have a number of health concerns, so you want to get yours from a very good breeder, not just a pet shop or backyard breeder.
Corgis do have a great personality and make loving companions. But they can be strong-willed and thus stubborn.
They need a strong and assertive leader and they may tend to wander and chase passing animals, birds, or people, so they need a proper recall.
If you want an outgoing, energetic, eager-beaver of a dog, then maybe a Corgi is for you!
The best way to find out if the Corgi is for you is to meet others, which you can do at adoption events or dog shows. Talk to the breeders who know the dogs the best, ask to pet some, maybe ask to spend some time with one. Conformation handlers and breeders will know the most about them, and should be willing to educate you about the breed, especially if you are a prospective buyer!
Furthermore, a really good breeder will not sell you a dog unless they are sure you would make an adequate owner to this energetic little bouncy dog.
Good luck:)

I have a little Corgi named Ruby. We love her and would like to adopt another. She definitely needs a lot of exercise. Her prey drive is in overdrive. She likes everything quiet and her "herd" under her control. She lays in the hallway so she can keep her eye on everything in case someone moves. I love the breed, but she is sometimes hard to take. Fast and sudden movements or outbursts drive her to a barking frenzy. Don't run down through the house without expecting her to be right on your heals barking. When my niece and nephews visit, she retires to her crate in her room. They are too active for her liking. We tried to adopt a cat which did not work out. It might have been different if the cat was around when she was a puppy though. All in all, I love the breed. I love the attitude that comes along with them. Like I said, I want another one, but I don't think they are for everyone.
