Small bugs found on dog after hiking...what are they?

went hiking with my 2 dogs today. afterwards found many small bugs crawling on their fur. Bathed them and washed away 75% of them but found some had burrowed into the skin around hair follicles. What are they? How do you treat them? Small, brownish, very smal like pepper on a plate. Thanks for your help!

Most likely they are ticks. Get them off before they attach. Bathe the dogs again. Leave the flea shampoo on for about ten minutes. If you can, go to the pet store and buy some adams dip. Follow directions very carefully. If your dog starts to drool, become lethargic, vomit or anything like that after the dip then bathe it in dawn dishwashing liquid a few times and take it to the vet. Dips can cause reactions in a small percentage of dogs. Adams is the safest to use. Buy some frontline from your vet tomorrow and apply that. It will prevent any ticks still on the dogs from attaching. Ticks carry a variety of diseases. Some of them can be fatal. Sounds like your ticks are baby ticks. Use the dip. I don't want to panic you about the reaction but I'd be wrong not to mention it in case it happens. IT's only about a 1 in 1000 chance. Go bathe them now before the ticks get in your house and your yard. Don't forget to get the frontline first thing tomorrow. And always, always, always use frontline before going in the woods and check your dogs well when coming out. Or get a preventic collar from the vet.

Do they look almost like tiny spiders the size of a pin head? If they are burrowing into the skin, they could be deer tics. Call your vet - besides just removing them, if they are deer tics, your dogs may need to be treated with an antibiotic for the bite. The deer tics can carry Lyme's disease.

They r probably fleas. U can buy flea treatment at Wal Mart or maybe dollar stores. U can get flea shampoo, collars, and drops.
