Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

I would really like a dog, but I want a really small small dog, something that could nearly fit in your hand or a little bigger, It doesn't matter if it is long or short hair as if it is small it would still be easy to look after. Please if anyone knows any breeds give me name or links to web sites as I would like to do research alot before I make my decision.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

There is no real dog that will fit in your hand as an adult.

Research toy breeds through google for small dogs.

As for me, I'd be afraid of misplacing or stepping on a dog that small.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Westie terriers are cute and they dont moult, though I dont know of any dog that is small enough to fit in your hand.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

"Small" does not inherently mean "easy to look after". In many cases, it can mean the exact opposite.

Check out the breed selector on www.dogbreedinfo.com.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

My sister has a papillion lovely little dogs very protective over women and really easy to train. also they have a lovely long silky coat and papillion is french for butterfly dog because of the way their hair grows out and around their ears.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Toy Poodle i have 5 myself lovely little dogs, but they do need to be clipped every 6 to 8 weeks to keep there coat nice.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

visit akc.org for breeds ...good luck :o)

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

just remember the smaller they are......the more health risks involved. I could be wrong as I am not a small dog owner but most of those dogs full grown that fit into your hand were diliberately bred to be that small and they can come with health risk because of being bred in a manner to get them so small........

Good luck finding a healthy one......

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

you should try this link:

http://www.selectsmart.com/beta_dog/inde...

it's helped me and my neighbor....make sure you answer all the questions truthfully or to the best of your knowledge for the best pick. it'll give you the best pick from1-100. it should only take you about a couple of minutes to answer them all..

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Something that small (there isn't any dog that small) would probably have the metabolism of a humming bird and be difficult to keep.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Most toy breeds.

Shitz shu,yorkshire terrier

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

the affenpinscher is a loyal and intelligent dog-also the schipperke has a similar nature-they are both not that common either

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

I hope this can help you a bit.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

A maltese...

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

a scottie

chiwawa idk if i spelled that right

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

well the problem is many of the very small dog breeds are known for having health issues and temperament issues.......im glad you are doing your research, but something you need to consider is you need to go to a licensed breeder for this type of dog.....not a pet store or puppy mill. i cant think of any that will fit in your hand....but a few are out there that are just a little bigger,im gonna list the relatively low maintance small dogs (under 10 lbs or so ) that i know of.....you can research from there

Chihuahua

miniature dachsund

miniature pinscher

pomeranian(long haired so take a little extra care)

your best bet is to go to www.akc.org and look up toy breeds there, there will be details about every type of dog imaginable.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

It is my experience that the smaller the dog, the higher the maintenance.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Chihuahua's are small, but that can cause issues. Such as, constantly watching where the dog is so you will not squish it.

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Great Dane

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

Why not just get a hamster?

Hi, can anyone suggest a breed of a dog that would be suitable?

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

This happened right after we got him about 8 months ago. It is very small but the hair never grew back, although there is no redness and he has been healthy since we have had him. He is a 1 year old pit mix...

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

You should go to his vet and see what they can do or think of what it is.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

It could be possible that he lays on it all the time. My lab used to have bald spots of thick skin on her elbows because of the way she laid on them. Or maybe something he does causes him to rub it against something.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

Depending on where the area is, it could possibly be from being vaccinated. Sometimes when animals are vaccinated, generally with the rabies vaccine, they have an area that just wont grow hair. It's not uncommon and generally not threatening to your pet. I would ask your Veterinarian what he/she thinks, they would be able to tell you exactly what it could be from. I hope this helps :)

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

Could it be from the leash or tags? Hard to say really. Take him to the vet and see what they say. Better to be safe than sorry. But sounds like something might be rubbing against it a lot and gradually taking the fur off. But try the vet and get a more professional statement.

My dog has a small bald spot on his neck...any suggestions?

My dog had the same problem but on a much larger scale. I put her on Aloe Vera pills (1 a day) hidden in a small amount of meat so they gobble it without tasting the pill. And 1 tablespoon of liquid DoggieDophilus mixed in about 2 - 3 tablespoons of vanilla or plain yogurt every day. Both can be found in a healthfood store. This boosts the immune system and promtes the hair to grow back in. It works. It may take some time but be consistant. Good Luck!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

She is almost 2 years old and has begun to loose patches of hair on her back and around the base of her tail. They started small and are becoming larger. It is like the skin begins to scab and as the scabs fall off so does the hair. The hair is not growing back and in the areas where the hair has been lost it just looks a bit red. Like if you were to pick off a scab that had heeled underneath. I'm worried because she has also become more lethargic and sleeps twice as much as before. I'm doubtful that it is mange. I have had experiance with that in another dog in the past and this is not near as bad and it does not seem to itch her. Please help!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

It's a flea allergy. Get her some Front Line and it will eventually go away on its own. You could get the vet to give her a cortisone shot to relieve her symptoms right away but it isn't necessary.

c-ya

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

We had the same problem with our dog in the same spot. It could be a hot spot.or fleas.....if so we use this stuff called Hot Spot Skin Remedy. From sergeants. You can get it at any pet store. It works good. And for the fleas...Front line works great! But try that.hot spot stuff too It relieves the itching alot. But if that doesn't work then i would take her in. I know bulldogs sometimes have skin problems...well at least ours did. But good luck.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

TAKE HER TO THE VET!!! this might be serious!!!!

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

I'll second the "take her to the vet" answer. She depends on you for her health. Please find a vet for her.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

It sounds like mange. Fleas do not cause this.. Just because it looks different does not mean it is not mange. There are many different kinds of mange as well as severities.

Get it to the vet.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

dogs do that when they lay on the ground and flys will hittem up to. wat it do?Al out.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

its called mange, get the dog to the vet they will give you meds to take care of it..

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

My friend had the same breed and the same problem. You can use a gentle soothing shampoo like oatmeal or chamomile for dogs. Also there is food available for dogs with sensitive skin. Try Science Diet, also i like to put a dash of vegetable oil in my dogs food when she is a bit flakey. Think about where she sleeps and things like that because she could be having a reaction to cleaning products and dogs can be allergic to grasses and things like that.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be a staff infection, food, flea or grass allergy, possibly thyroid disease. Your vet will be able to give you a more educated answer. He can do a skin scrap or some blood tests to diagnose the hair loss.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be allergies, infection, or disease.

To determine what it is, the vet needs to take a skin sample and analyze it.

Way too many possible causes for even a vet to diagnosis over the internet.

What could be causing my French Bulldog to loose her hair?

Could be worse... There has been an outbreak of a ferocious mange caused by contact with feral (wild) cats... Tried the old-fashioned remedies of dipping and GOODWINOL, which were pretty ineffective, and wound up having to give a daily dosage of IVERMECTIN (the monthly heart-worm preventative) over a period of 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the progress of the dog, but the fact is that the mites that had started to lay eggs died within 3 days and the dog started to show remarkable improvement almost immediately... The veterinarian was never able to see live mites under the microscope even though he did 2 skin scrapings... But the scabs were just gross and I'll be glad to send you pictures for comparison if you want to see them. He's fully cured now... Ask your veterinarian about possibly trying this course of treatment.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

First it started near his thighs and now it is spreading to top of his body . Hair in this region is dropping followed by red rashes. Can this problem be solved and will his skin come to normal condition... he even feels itchy in this region ....

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

What you've described sounds like ringworm. Get an anti-fungal treatment from your vet. Be careful, ringworm is very contagious! Keep him away from other pets and children, and do not let him on your furniture.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Uh... this requires a vet obviously.

We can't cure him; the correct treatment from a vet can.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like ring worm. Get some anti fungal medication for your pup before the infection spreads to you.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like a visit to the vet is in order - they can put him on meds to help with the infection and something to help relieve the itch!

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

Sounds like it may either be a food allergy or demodex mange. You need to get him to the vet for a skin scrapping.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

it is ringworm. And yes it can be fixed and the skin will return to normal. Just put iodine on it twice a day until it clears up, If you dont access to Iodine, then put watered down bleach on it. It will dry it out and kill the bacteria, which will in turn make the fungus go away. Ringworm is not actually a worm, so dont be worried, it is just fungus as you said. If the iodine nad bleach do not help then take him to the vet because he may have demadex, a skin disease.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

If I were you I would take my dog to a vet to determine just what type of rash he has and whether or not it affects you. It is usually a matter of them taking a scraping or swab from the area and checking it under a microscope. Sometimes rashes require a biopsy to determine what is going on.

Also, you want to make sure he doesn't get a secondary skin infection that requires antibiotics.

Good Luck!

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

If its red, round and has a ring like bump then its ring worms. Get so anti-fungal shampoo. Don't touch it or you will get it. Call a vet if it gets worse

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

it sounds like ringworm... get lotrimin ultra cream for athletes foot and wash the area and put the cream on it at least 2 times a day... it's much cheaper and works just as well as the cream that the vet would prescribe

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

How long has he had it? Usually ringworm takes awhile to spread. If it's spread that much you still need a vet.

Mine had a small, nickel sized spot, on his forehead when he was a pup (gave it to our female as well, same spot). The vet gave us some antifungal, that cost $10 from him. But we could have gotten the exact same thing from wal mart for $3 or $4. So go to wal mart and get some antifungal cream. Put it on and keep your dog from licking it. You may need to get an E-collar from the vet. If it spreads, or doesn't start clearing up within a week, you will still need to go to the vet.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

It's ring worm. That's a fungus. Any fungicide will kill it. Try monostat, tolnaftate, any athlete's foot creme, any vaginal fungicide creme, etc.

My dog has fungal infection (round or circular) on skin?

go to your veterinarian and have it checked out. it could be ringworm, demodex, sarcoptic mange, or allergic reactions. the last two will definately make them itchy and sarcoptic mange is contagious to people!!! all can be treated.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

I will confess that after just losing one of my golden's to cancer, I am very worried about my 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd. I was petting him over really good today...just checking him out today and I found a "tag" of sorts on his tail...it was about an inch long and hard. I dug through his hair and touched it and this hard mass of skin fell off. I then examined it closely and, this is nasty, but it is a definite hole with red lumpy tissue pushing through..the lump is hard. You can push the skin down around the lump so the skin is not attached to this lump. I do not know what to make of this and can not find anything on the internet that looks like it. Picture a donut with a hole in the middle and pushing a red napkin through it. That is what it looks like.

I would like to add that in the morning I am calling my vet so I am taking him into to be looked at when I can get him in. I am not going to let this go after losing my dog to oral squamous cell carcinoma just 2 1/2 mths ago.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

Maybe it's a bad infection...try putting hydrogen peroxide on it, I'm glad you're going to the vet...I'll pray it's nothing serious...good luck!

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

hi it is what you call an abscess just get it cut off the dog will still have a stub trust me its not a big deal

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

I hope your dogs lump isnt anything bad!

I would listen to what the vet says about the lump is my answer.

Strange lump found on my dog's tail...?

If your dog goes outside alot this may be the problem. My dog had 9 puppies and instead of keeping them in the house, she dug a hole and put them in the dirt. After they started to stagger a little, we noticed that 2 of them had a large clump on their tail while another one had it on his foot. We washed it thinking that it was dirt and it didn't come off so we took one of them to the vet. The vet looked it over and he said that it was just a fungus from being in the dirt so he gave us some antibiotics spray and we sprayed them once a day. The clump was somewhat long and brown. It was dry looking and rusty looking. It also looked like the skin was peeling a little but when we toched it they didn't even flinch and they still have full feeling in their tails and feet.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

My black lab has been scratching all over for over a month. In fact, it's so bad that she's scratching off her hair in certain spots.

We recently moved to the suburbs from the city, so we now have a yard that she likes to roll around in. We thought it was insects, so we now use K-9 Advantix. This doesn't seem to be working.

Since the house is only a few months old, we also thought it could be a reaction to some building material, like carpet.

About the only other things we can think of are either the laundry detergent we use to wash her bed liner, or the fact that we have hard water where we live.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Most likely it is allergies. A lot of dogs get it during the summer months when the weather gets warmer. Although some dogs have it year round. It is kind of hard to say what triggers it just like humans there are so many different things but you can try bathing your dog with an oatmeal based shampoo once or twice a week. This is really soothing to them. However if you notice that it is not getting any better, you should take him to the vet so that they can get a shot to relieve the skin of the itching. Depending on how bad it is, the shot can last anywhere from 1-3months. getting it done periodically will help keep the itching to a minimum. If he has chronic allergies, there are also pills that you can get from the vet so that your trip to and from the office are set to a minimum. Good Luck!

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Ask your vet

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

What are you feeding her? If you are not feeding her a high quality diet this could be the reason she is scratching. Try switching her to a higher quality, more natural food such as Solid Gold. Those so called "name" brand foods have many ingerdients that can cause allergies. Corn is one of the worst ingredients for causing allergies.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

fleas?? it could be many things...ask your vet

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

it is probably an allergy of some sort if its not fleas or insects, try switching detergants or try other flea medication

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

I would take here to the vet- it could be an allergy or it could be mange...our dog had it as a pup.

If it is an allergy, they can give your dog meds to treat it.

If mange, they will bathe her once a week in a treatment to get rid of it- it takes several weeks of treatments however.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

This happened to one of my cats. Sounds like allergies to me, but bring her to the vet to be sure. Keep in mind that people and animals can develop allergies to something they were previously not allergic to. I started feeding my cat sensitive skin food from science diet...see if they have one for dogs, it may help her.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

Your dog might be having allergies. A lot of the time, it majorly affects their skin - which would explain the major itching.

Could be the yard, new carpet (this affected my Yorkie for a while), or even if you changed your dogs food. As for the laundry detergent, try free %26amp; clear by All, or another detergent for sensitive skin. My detergents tabs not only irritated my poochie, but I had major eczema outbreaks for the first time in my life! If you think it is the carpet, vacuum vacuum vacuum, until your vacuum isn't just filling with the carpet fibers (this can take vacuuming daily for weeks).

For more info, try contacting a local vet. They'll be able to tell you for sure. Maybe even try an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner to sooth your pup's skin when bathing as well.

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

It's true, your dog has most likely developed allergies. Changing his food is a good first option - what are you feeding him?

Check with your vet, but giving Benadryl can ease the symptoms while you figure out what it is that is irritating your dog. It could be one or all of the things that you mention - it could be the ingredients in his food - lots of things to consider.

Dr. Pitcairn's book on natural foods for your dog may help. There are a lot of recipes in there for dogs with medical issues.

http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?I...

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

give her a bath.. use a good dog shampoo

My dog won't stop scratching!!?

I have a Peke with the same problem....one thing that I can verify - K9 Advantix didn't work at all with my dog. We switched back to Frontline Plus. With Frontline, we saw no trace of fleas or ticks....I switched to K9 before summer, because we live near a reservoir and mosquitoes tend to get bad in the hot summer. Supposedly K9 works on mosquitoes too - however, I could see no evidence that it worked at all - within a few days I had gotten 8 ticks off of her - so I switched back to Frontline as soon as I could. Now, as far as the itching, switching to a good quality food is supposed to help (I switched to Wellness) and also, someone sent me this website link and told me to start my pup on Fresh Factor, which I have done. I haven't given it to her long enough yet to see a difference, so we'll see. In the meantime, I went to my pet store and bought some hydrocortisone for dogs and spray her with that. I was told not to bathe her very often because that could cause dry skin and make her itch worse. I am doing everything possible to avoid a "precription allergy medication" for her, because our vet said that prolonged use could damage her kidneys....I'll also be glad to see if anyone else give you any useful advice that I can "steal" :-)

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

my dog lucky is 6, shes about 20 lbs, blach fur (links to pictures below). i've had her since she was 1, but she got her from a shelter and do not know what breed she is.. we were told a pekinese/cocker spaniel mix maybe but we don't think so. when we cut her hair she gets mistaken for a black lab puppy.

any input?? ~thanks~

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/229/l...

http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/7440/...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

A mix. She looks like she has some sort of spaniel in her...definately looks like a cocker spaniel mix...but the shelter was probably just guessing at the other part. It is so hard to say when they are a mix - as long as she is a great dog...it shouldn't really matter. I doubt there is any Lab in her if she is that small. Very cute!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

it looks like a pekanese mix not lab i raised labs but got one with cocker in it Report It

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

terrier/mix

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I don't think it matters what she is because so darn CUTE!! my dog is a giant mutt part Dalmatian border collie and pointer and some other dogs

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Looks like she may have some Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) and possibly some Pappion. My guess anyway

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She sure is a sweetie, regardless of the breed. I would never have guessed she was six years old. You can tell by the eyes she's sharp as a tack. You're very lucky to have such an adorable baby. Lots of love, kindness and patience will give her a nice long life with you.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

ask your vet on your next visit

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Definitely you can see both breeds, the head shape and eyes are pekingeses and I can plainly see Cocker as well. The shelter was right. If people are mistaking her for a black lab pup they are just not familiar with the breeds. I have worked as a Vet tech for 15 years and volunteered at animals shelters , I am speaking from quite a bit of experience.Check out puppydogweb.com for pictures of purebred dogs and see what I mean.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She does appear to be a Peke/Cocker mix. She is her own breed though...the name of her breed is ADORABLE

Here are pics of puppies of that designer dog breed, called Cockinese..%26gt; http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Definitely got terrier in her. Probably a mutt. It doesn't really matter, though, she's ADORABLE either way!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Shelter is right, here are pekingese and cocker mix pictures and info below.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I'm not so sure about pekinese because I do not ever remember seeing a black one before. Lab they do come in black. Got the cocker spaniel face though. Could be cocker spaniel/Lab mix.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She's a mutt ... the best kind of dog there is. Judging from the shape of her muzzle, it's probably likely that she does have Pekingese.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Easy! You have a cocker spaniel/chawawa(dunno how to spell) maybe in earlier generations I can see a bit of pomeranian with her snout. she looks like a bit of the flat little pekinese because of her body shape and ears, that could easily be mistaken, but she has very little, if any. good luck with this cutie!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

In your pictures i cant see her tail usually you can tell a lot about a breed with the looks of their tails...to me she looks like she may have spanial in her and possibly terrior. but its really hard to tell by not being able to see her standing up to see her body shape and stance and the way her tail goes.

try measureing her height and looking up dog breeds look at her tail in the way it hangs and also the softness or coursness of her hair also the body shape that might tell you a lot of what breeds she may have in her...some times its really hard to tell .

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

no

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She looks EXACTLY like our Border Collie/Lab/Mystery dog mix except she's a little smaller. My guess is probably a Border Collie/Terrier mix. The Lab would make her at least 10 pounds heavier.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

i'm going with a cocker spanial/pomorainain.... does"nt matter any way, she's one of a kind. you'll never be able to replace her. just enjoy her and rember shelter dogs are the best!!!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

she looks like a pekeapoo to me. (pekenese/poodle mix)

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I see the cocker spaniel and what might be terrier...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Don`t worry about it. These so-called dog breeders don`t know ****.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

maybe part dachund

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

I have a 3 year old hound mix. I noticed that one of her eyes was watering and she keeps blinking it. When I held her head and looked at her eye it looked like she had a curved, thin scratch about 1/4 of an inch long on her cornea. I blinked her eyelid to see if it was a hair and it didn't move or change shape, so I'm really thinking it was a scratch. I'm not sure how it happened. We have a cat and a toddler, or she may have done it when she got into the garbage earlier. We'll be taking her to the vet, but what will they do? I know it can turn into an ulcer if it isn't taken care of, so how do they prevent it?

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

If that's what it is they will put a solution in her eye to define the problem and prescribe an ointment type eye drop to treat it. In a few days it will be as good as new. If it's a scratch no surgery will be needed.

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

the vet will exam it to be sure its a scratch. He will most likely prescribe an an ointment to protect it, prevent further irritation/infection, and to help heal it.

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

Your vet will probably give you some antibiotic eye ointment to apply to her eye. This will protect, soothe her eye and fight any infection. They eye heals very quickly. You may even see relief by the time you take her to the vet.

She could have scratched it by rubbing it.

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

I would think that the treatment would be the same for a human. A few antibiotic drops at the vets office should be it. The eyes heal very quickly.

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

Take it to a vet, maybe they will exam it to be sure it was scratched. But it needs some OPERATION here. I'm serious.

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

in humans all you need to do is pad the eye .I guess the same principle holds

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

I actually did this to myself when I was 7 or 8. I got some medicine and an eye patch and was good as new in a few days. I also had a boxer growing up that got an ulcerated cornea and she got eye medicine and had to wear an elizabethan/satellite collar for a little while to make sure she couldn't scratch or bump her eye and re-injure it. Eyes tend to heal pretty well, but you're doing the right thing by taking her to a vet early. The treatment isn't too much trouble, she'll be fine. Good luck!

My dog has possibly scratched her cornea, what kind of treatment does that take?

First they will stain the eye with special stuff for the eye that you turn the light out and scratches or ulcers glow bright green. They basically treat a scratch as a ulcer with a ointment called BNP. If it is really bad you will have a couple of ointments and if painful drops to kill the pain. I have had a eye that was so bad I had to get up every 2 hours to put drops in for 3 days then 4 times a day after! Definintly do not put off having it checked out or worse case senario they could lose an eye. You can't really prevent it from happening...things happen. We get something in our eye and can pick it out with a dog it could be something so simple as a grass clipping but they can only rub n rub resulting in ulcers. Good luck.

What is wrong with her dog?

my mom has a mixed terrier dog, she is about 6 years old. About 2 months ago, she started acting strange, not eating, arching her back, shaking etc, they took her to the vet, they charged $500 just for tests, still wasnt sure, but guessed that it was PANCRITIS. She still wasn't not better 2 weeks later so they took her back, but they were goi g to charge even more, and they dont just have thousands of dollars laying around, well its been 2 months and she still acts sick off and on. some days she is fine others not..she is losing gobs of hair, sores on her chest, arching her back alot, laziness. do you have any idea what it could be? possibly a terminal cancer?

What is wrong with her dog?

Second opinion.....

What is wrong with her dog?

They need to take her to a better vet then.

What is wrong with her dog?

Take poor pup to another vet, the one they're taking them to doesn't seem to care. I'm sorry for the dog. :( I hope they figure out what's going on so they can help.

What is wrong with her dog?

I think it might be cancer because my uncles dog had cancer and it lost gobs of hair, you could try going to a different vet or maybe even the humane society has some tips.

What is wrong with her dog?

It sounds like a serious disease that will eventually be the demise of the pet. Even if you do take it to the vet, they will just give it medication to keep it comfortable untill it is ready to die. I would consider euthanizing the pet.

What is wrong with her dog?

i honestly have no freaking clue, but i would go to another vet. that one is an idiot!

What is wrong with her dog?

All i know is that it doesnt sound like pancreatitis. You see vomiting and diarrhea with that condition.. sometimes they will arch their back due to abdominal pain. Id take her to a different veterinarian for a 2nd opinion and have the first vet fax all records so they dont repeat any tests already done.

What is wrong with her dog?

Call other vets tell them the problem, how much was charged and if the dog still has the same problems. Other vets might have more knowledge. Sounds like the dogs immune system is deteriorating..If she brought the dog to the vet, thats all she can do besides giving him as much love and attention as possible. Dont forget to tell her to call other vets tell them this is a special situation where youve paid $500 already and her dog isnt any better.

What is wrong with her dog?

You need to get a second opinion, 6 is a very young age for a dog. Whoever said 6-10 is an average lifespan for a dog is an idiot, that's like saying 40-60 is the average lifespan for a human.

You need to learn that your dog is more important that how fat your wallet is, if you cannot afford the treatment for this dog, who is OBVIOUSLY SUFFERING HORRIBLY, you need to relinquish her to an agency that will pay for her treatments and adopt her out to a family that IS willing to pay for such treatments, or euthanize her. Don't allow her suffering to continue.

What is wrong with her dog?

They need to take her to another vet to get a second opinion ASAP.

What is wrong with her dog?

Arching her back makes me suspect IVDD or Lumbo-Sacral Intervetebral Disc Disease...you may try to crate her making sure she doesn't jump ON of off furniture and short leash walks to urinate and defecate only. These symptoms can also indicate thyroid disease (hair loss) but should have been picked up with the blood tests.

Another opinion may help. Good Luck!

Tanya

What is wrong with her dog?

It might be Lymphoma. I'm not sure, but it seems to be it. Make sure his x-rays show healthy bones. If they look weird, I think you found the cancer.

What is wrong with her dog?

the same thing happened to my golden retriver she is to old thats the part that sux when you kno its there time and u cant do anything about it except spend thousands of dollars to tell you wat u kno will happen

What is wrong with her dog?

First off, a dogs immune system is much different than our own, it can withstand things that would kill us, but we are also immune to things that can kill them.

But the question is, why would you even ask what it is. The animal is suffering and finding out whats wrong can't cure it, there is no proven treatment that works on cancer in dogs, you can just extend their life span. My suggestion is to put it down, its a sad realization, but its the only humane thing to do.

What is wrong with her dog?

vet

What is wrong with her dog?

Your current vet is crap and is milking you for money and/or is probably very stupid. Take the dog somewhere else.

What is wrong with her dog?

take the dog to a psycyatrist (sry if its not spely correctly) lol j/k mayb ur dog is under stress or gettin lazy mayb it old age sry to hear dat her dog is sik i hope he gets better and i just realised dats almost da same thin dat happened 2 ma dog exceptin da vet part i just found him dead 1 mornin idk how he died mayb its a same thin as ur moms dog idk

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

He went twice when he was a pup and then all of a sudden decided enough was enough!! When he needs his hair cut now we have to take him to the vet to be sedated and obviously i dont like doing this. But it gets so bad that he wont even let us brush him that it seems the only option. Any tips that anyone could give me so i could do it myself would be great, I've tried so much!!

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

Ok what you have to understand is dogs live in the now. What happened when he was a pup is not why he doesnt like to be groomed. This is your problem. Not the dogs.

The dog does not respect you. Dogs are not little humans, they are dogs. You must be the boss or the dog will be the boss. You see, dogs have instincts that dictate pack order, there must always be a leader and if you dont become the leader than the dog will be it. Dogs are not happy being the leaders so we must be. for our safety and for theirs. Just think, since your dog doesnt see you as a leader he can choose not to listen to you, what if he gets out one day and you call him back and he decides he would rather go and play with a dog across the street and he gets hit by a car, all becuase you cant do what it takes to be a responsible dog owner.

You must earn his respect by becomeing his leader. Do this by takeing him on walks, and teaching him to walk next to you, (like on the dog whisperer), next establish that the house and yard belong to you, do this by claiming space (make him move, instead of walking around him) Also you must go out of doors and up stairs first this makes you the leader. Then work with his grooming problems, put a leash on him and get out your brush and start to brush him, if he snaps or dances around give a bit of a jerk on his leash and say sit. and do it again. Work this out until he can do it. Being a leader does not mean you are mean. You do not hit your dog, your dogs feelings are not hurt in fact he will be releaved to be a follower again.

Good luck with your dog I am tired of typing now.

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

Keep working with him at home. Play with his nails if he gets nail trims at the groomer. Play with his hair too. My trainer taught me to do this for my own dog. We had a vet that used a dremel (the grinding tool) on his nails when he was a pup, and now he is terrified to have his nails trimmed, even with normal clippers. We don't have to sedate him, but we do have to put a muzzle on him still during nail trims, and I have to get right up in his face and talk to him calmly and sweetly to keep him from thrashing and trying to get away from the groomer. It can be done, but it will take a lot of work on your part.

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

Sounds like something bad happened when he was last at the groomers. When you stroke him does he get agitated? If not start by using a soft cloth in your hand when you are stroking him and gradualy build up to a brush. When I say gradualy I mean take weeks if necessary rather than days. If you can build a good relationship with a different groomer take him along for visits where he gets fussed but nothing he thinks of as 'nasty'. I know my groomer would be more than happy to do this. Give him lots of time and love and he'll get there in the end.

Good luck

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

can you tell us the breed age that would help firstly is he nervous about things like hair dryers, clippers and hairdryers are noisy you need to gently break his fear try getting a wide comb and brush a stock or two talk to him in a happy good boy voice and reward him try again later for a bit longer if he will let you give him a positive experience and try not to be anxious he will sense this if hes scared of hair dryers etc put them on in a room near by for a while he will get used to the noise and will relies that it wont hurt him

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

You can try to give your dog a bath at home and brush him at home. He obviously had bad experiences at the groomer and now he associates that with each time he goes, and he does not want to re-experience that again. Would YOU?

So in the mean time, just brush him like 10 minutes twice a day, try to touch his nails, also you can clean his ears out with this solution you buy from your vet. I give my pups a bath right away at 4 weeks, to start them getting used to it. I give them a good short bath each time. No more than 10-12 minutes per dog. If they like it in there, I let them have some fun and bring toys in there. Dogs are real adaptable when they are still young, I hope your dog is under a year, it will be easier to help him to love his bath time, and bond with you:)

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

First may i ask what kind of dog you have?

Second it sounds like you have a dominance/ behavioral issue.

I groom a lot of dog who don't like coming in, or won't let their owners work with them. Mostly its because people over indulge their pets and never take issue with the dog's bad behavior. Some dogs are just plain bad and have to be sedated to be groomed. But this is often much safer than fighting with the groomer, attacking the grooming equipment or just making itself a stressed freak for a day.

Good grooming begins with a well mannered dog. So sign up for some classes and talk to your groomer about working with your dog at home. I'm sure they would be happy to offer their help. Grooming is not optional if you have a high maintenance breed.

Good luck and good luck to your groomer.

Also why does everyone want to blame the groomer for a bad grooming experiance? You all work in my shoes for a day and most of you would quit in two hours after having bad grooming experiances with some people's dogs. Ever been bit in the face? The hands? Your breast??!!!! Don't knock the groomer until you can do it yourself.

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

Proffessional training may give the answer. If that fails, seeing a dog behaviourist and follow appropriate therapy is the next step.

Good luck

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

try spending time with it then trick it.

My dog wont go to the groomers!! Help?

Sounds as if you need to take him to training classes - not letting you brush him is a sign that he's getting his own way too much. You need to be much firmer with him or you will have even bigger problems in the future. He needs disciple in his life.

Aggressive dog grooming???

My shih tzu gets aggressive when being groomed (he had an inccident at the groomers last year that caused him alot of pain so we cannot take him to a groomer)

How can i cut/shave his hair without cutting him or him biting me?

Thank you

Aggressive dog grooming???

give him treats

and then pet him on his back dat will come him down a little

make him pay attention on one thing that would make stay still

i have a shitzu too...it worked when i tried it

Aggressive dog grooming???

muzzle?

Aggressive dog grooming???

For every pound of weight, you can give them 1mg of Benadryl. My dog hates going to the groomers, and I'm not equipped to do it myself. He weighs 7 pounds and my vet said I can give him 7mg of benadryl to calm him down. Childrens Benadryl comes in liquid form, and little strips that melt in their mouths. I would try it, it's worked great for us.

Aggressive dog grooming???

Very carefully , Very gently , and it may take hours to do this. Just keep talking to him , take breaks, that is all you can do. You muzzle him it will just make him worse.

By you having to shave him it sounds to me he hasn't been groom every day as you should with a Shih Tzu so he may not be used to it. The sound of the sheers will scare him. You may have to start by just brushing him as you talk to him gently and work you way up to him being shaved. Just take an hour a day and brush him , get him use to that first. Good luck to you and if anyone says to give him something to put him to sleep don't do that either. They did that to one dog I know and the dog never worke up. This happen at a groomer place.

Aggressive dog grooming???

pet shops sell several types and sizes of muzzles.

if you want to try a different groomer, you MUST warn them that the dog has a problem due to an accident that made it afraid to be groomed. Take a muzzle to the groomers if they are willing to try working with the dog.

If you do it, you still need to use a muzzle.

You can also give him a bit of AcePromazine to calm him before the grooming and give it time to take affect. It's a mild canine sedative.

Aggressive dog grooming???

The problem isn't that he is aggressive, but that he has been allowed get away with it and then the behavior escalates. So, you pretty much have to start all over.

I am the only groomer in my area that will work with problem animals (including cats) and I always re-teach the dogs in the following manner.

The first session, I sit them on the table and begin by touching them all over, slow gentle caresses. Once I feel a reduction in tension in their bodies I introduce the comb. Work the head and ears first, use vocalizations to control their possible sudden movements to either bite me or the tools. If persistent at wanting to bite the tools, offer them the handle of the comb. They usually refuse to take it. Everything must be extremely slow, taking up to an hour. If you're not finished grooming that doesn't matter. Let them go and play or eat or go for a walk. (I send them home. The owners are advised that re-training for this may take several visits)

Each day, redo first the touching exercise and then the

part(s) of the body that you did on previous days, always adding the next part of the body.

I am often referred clients by other groomers because they mistakenly believe that I sedate the aggressive animals (dogs sedated by veterinary for the groomer are only relaxed, not completely asleep). A sedated animal is actually more dangerous because they feel that they have no control and are more likely to bite out of fear.

It takes time and patients. Don't try to clip the hair (except for the occasional nasty tangle) work strictly with the comb at first.

Good Luck, this type of retraining is always a challenge.

Aggressive dog grooming???

You should just start slow.. A little bit of brushing each day, spend more time touching him, his feet, his ears and everything else. While you are doing this, have your sheers, scissors etc within view.

If he accepts brushing without problem, one day while you are brushing him and he is loving it, reach over and turn on the sheer, leave it laying on the counter so that he can see it, and hear it. If he reacts, just continue with the brushing and calm him down. Don't shave him yet.

Once you have him to the point where he will let you brush him and the sheer is there and on, and he isn't reacting, pick it up and see if he'll let you work on him some.

Being his owner, it shouldn't be too hard to redirect him and teach him that you aren't going to hurt him and you won't allow anything bad to happen.

If you need to get him shaved quicker than what that might take.. Work with him several times a day showing him that you aren't going to hurt him.. It will speed up the process.

It's just like anything else with training, you need to socialize him to the scissors, the touch, the sheers, and allow him to see that none of it is going to hurt him.

Aggressive dog grooming???

A muzzle of course. All dogs, at times need them. If you have a problem handling your dog, muzzle him. I do not understand the behavior of a person not being able to do ANYTHING they want to do to their own dog, at any time, but, I guess it happens. I muzzle my dogs at the vets office, not because I need to or because they are obnoxious, but because I want to err on the side of caution and not the vet's face.

Aggressive dog grooming???

you might try and find a groomer that works with a vet. you can have the dog sedated to be groomed . i have been a dog groomer for 46 years and i work for a vet. here in the panhandle of Texas. i have done several dogs that way because they would not be handled by strangers. or they were hurt by groomers.

My dog has a weird lesion...any suggestions?

I have an appointment with her vet, but my Gordon Setter had a spot appear on her hip on Sunday. It looked like a mole, but it was new and the hair in a dime size area was missing. I felt it and it was kinda an unattached lump. Yesterday I looked at her and was flabergasted. It is now a 2" diameter on her hip. It is moist(which she keeps licking it) with deeper "pock marks" in some areas. Its not crusty and their is a deep red/burgundy circle around it that is about an inch across on th outside of the lesion. There seem to be some small almost skin tag looking things in that area. I don't think it's ring worm. When I first saw it I thought it was a hot spot but with the mole thing on their to begin with, I'm not so sure. She is horrible about getting licking granulomas and fussing with anything and everything. I sprayed her with bitter apple and she's one of those that couldn't care less. Any ideas what this could be?

My dog has a weird lesion...any suggestions?

We want to adopt a dog.?

We want a dog that can fetch, will be easy to train (just for fun, not to copmete) and I would like it to have short hair.

Any ideas?

Thank you

We want to adopt a dog.?

For a dog which is already trained, you'll need to check the SPCA regularly until you find the one you want.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Go to the pound and rescue one

We want to adopt a dog.?

A labridor retreiver..but you can really teach any dog to fetch.

We want to adopt a dog.?

You can't go wrong with a lab or lab mix. They are very smart, loving, loyal dogs. Try looking at a lab rescue. Best of luck with your new family member!

We want to adopt a dog.?

go 2 the rescue centre

We want to adopt a dog.?

Depending on where you live, you can adopt dogs that have been trained, or you can adopt a dog and send him to obiedence school. The humane society is a great place to start.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Are you looking for a specific size? If you are looking for large dogs, I would recommend retired racing greyhounds. They make wonderful pets, are easy to train, and generally want to please you.

We want to adopt a dog.?

If your looking for an active dog, how about a lab?

We want to adopt a dog.?

Good for you wishing to adopt! I would recommend you visit the SPCA shelter in your area! Labs and lab mixes are great, but there are so many mutts that would be perfect for you as well! An adoption coordinator can help you narrow dogs some dogs, and then take them out in a yard to play and get to know one another before you make a decision.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Go to your local animal shelter and adopt a dog who is looking for a good home. You'll find one that will meet your wishes and you can train him to fetch and many other little tricks too.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Any dog can learn to fetch, it has nothing to do with the breed.

And breed does not dictate how easy a dog is to train. Training methods differ (ex: positive reinforcement, repetition, etc...) and not all dogs react the same. Plus, sometime you just get a dim bulb!

So your only tangent requirement is short hair. Go to the American Kennel Club website and take a look for yourself.

Personally, I recommend a mutt.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Labs are good dogs... So are Jack Russells they both are smart. They both love to play fetch.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Canadian Labs are exactly the dog you want. They instinctively want to fetch. They will want to play more then you can imagine. You do not have to train them to do this. Their hair is short and very easy to keep clean.

We want to adopt a dog.?

golden retriever. they fetch reeeally good and theyre one of the smartest breeds so its easy to triain them. but they do have long hair. but theyre an awesome breed and i think you should really get one!! =]

We want to adopt a dog.?

go to the shelter and if you want a large dog, get a lab or lab mix, and as for small dogs, a jack russell mix. both are great breeds, and by getting a mix, you usually get something even better than a purebred! good luck!

We want to adopt a dog.?

I would recommend a terrier. There are many with short hair. My brother and I have always had mixed breed terriers. They are very smart and easy to train and they have short hair.

Besides the terriers, there are beagles, bassett hounds, dachshunds, and many other breeds. If you would like to go by PetsMart, there are dogs there who really need homes and these dogs have been trained and the people there can tell you something about the personality of each dog. Also you can try your local animal shelter.

We want to adopt a dog.?

labradors are easy to train and they are very friendly.

We want to adopt a dog.?

There are lots of dogs that would fit this general requirement. It all depends on the animal. Trainability and hair length are not really mutually exclusive.

Most dogs generally are very trainable if you have the right trainer and owner. Border collies and Jack Russell Terriers are usually very bright in different ways, but there are exceptions to every rule. Both can like to or be taught to fetch or do tricks.

Whatever dog you choose, it should be healthy, not too young and not too old, then once it is vaccinated up to date and spayed or neutered, take it to a reputable trainer or training facility first to teach both the dog and the owner obedience skills, then later to teach them the tricks or talents that you want them to have. Dogs need to trust and obey their owners before this will work well.

Good luck

We want to adopt a dog.?

All dogs take time and effort to train.

Labs and goldens are easy to train as they want to please the owner. How ever neither is short haired and labs shed all the time and lots of hair.

Both breeds are easy going and not hard to train.

Weimaraners and German Shorthairs and Visulas are harder to train and tougher minded dogs.

Look at what size you woudl ike a dog to be and look at breed you think you might like at www.akc.org.

Each breed will have a picture and a breif profile about the dog and the size and such. Then when you find something you like tlak to people who own that type of dog and see what they say about trainability.

We want to adopt a dog.?

go to library and look at dogs with short hair. they have books that show which are biters and

and which dog s are barkers, pick some dogs you all like. then pick a couple you might like, then go to the animal shelter and take everyone that lives in the house, let the dog pick you all or at least you will all love him as he will love you

We want to adopt a dog.?

Go to your local pound or to www.petfinder.com and search your area. Any dog can be taught to fetch. Labs, and pitbulls get my vote for easy to train, great family dogs, and short hair.

If you want, email me and let me know what kind of exercise requirements and such you will be able to meet, and I can help match a breed to your lifestyle. You don't want an overly active dog if your family is more laid back.

libertydogtraining@yahoo.com

We want to adopt a dog.?

I know someone who has a female husky puppy she needs to find a home for, free.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Honestly you can teach any dog to fetch! and you should go and look at the dogs' in the shelters around your area. do lots' of research on the breed of dog you would like. so you know what your getting in to. as far as a dog that fetches look at any one of the dogs that are in the working class. But be prepared to keep that dog entertained because a working breed needs to be worked or they can become destructive! Good luck and kudos for choosing to adopt!

We want to adopt a dog.?

I really do suggest you look at local shelters, there are so many wonderful mixed breeds, with short hair, that are very smart.

We want to adopt a dog.?

Good for you! I adopted a dog recently that is smart and has short hair, she appears to be a german shepherd mix. A mystery really. I found her on www.petfinder.org. If you do a search there, you will see many puppies and dogs meeting your criteria. I would search for both german shepherd mixes and lab mixes - they sound perfect for you.

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Yesterday, I just assumed he had accidently scratched himself. But today there's a place about the size of my fist that there is no hair and no top skin. The fur around it is stained with blood. It almost looks like a bad burn.

But during the day while I'm at school and work he stays in a lot, and I looked around and couldn't find any signs of sharp fencing or anything with hair and blood on it. I wonder if he's biting himself over anxiety. Or does anyone else know what it could be? Should I take him to the vet in the morning?

Advice, please!

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

You might want to consider a trip to the vet. I had a cocker mix whose back end stayed that way all summer long, and a quick trip to the vet determined that she was allergic to grass and itched herself raw. There is a great product (OTC) called Sulfodene that works for itch on dogs. Or it could be more serious than that. I would check with the vet -- they can determine what is making him scratch, and suggest what you need to do to help him out.

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Vet soon as possible. If it is anxiety a shot and some cream may be the fix. My dog got a bite from a bug that caused a hot spot. They shaved the area and used a cream and she was fine.

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

it could be fleas and comb him and if no fleas yeah take him to the vet

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

It's best to take him to the vet. It could be that he's chewing on hiimself from anxiety but it could also be something more serious. And it sounds like it got much worse in a pretty short time period. Hope he gets better!

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Might be something called a "hot spot", my cocker gets them sometimes, I use mercuroclear spray ( you should be able to get it at your local drugstore or supermarket).

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

It is possible he is pulling his hair out of stress. That will need a vet trip. My cat had that problem when we moved and she needed a couple of needles, and then it was gone for good. If it is stress you will need to attend to it quickly as it can then become a habit, even after the stress leaves, he will always do it. If this is all of a sudden, something new has triggered this stress. Can you think of anything that has changed, or are there loud noises in the neighbourhood, people fighting? See if you can take away the cause. If you don't have much money, I would wait a week to see if it clears up. If not, he really should see a vet. He could have scratched himself on anything, and the scratch just irritated him so he chewed it to relieve himself. It may not be a stress thing at all. Goodluck!

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Take him to the vet as soon as possible. You do not want it to get infected.

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

VET !! Could be abscess Could be fleas Could be anxiety issue

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Dogs can get into alot of trouble on their own. Duh.....yea I think a vet visit would be in order.

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Yes take him to the vet asap before he gets an infection if he already hasn't

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

vet now do not wait

Yesterday, I noticed my dog bleeding a bit from a place on his hip. Today it's worse...?

Yes,take him to the vet, pronto!I had this happen to one of my dogs and the wound had to be stitched closed and she had to take antibiotics for ten days .If you don't have it taken care of ,the spot will get bigger, and get infected as well.I don't know what happened to my dog either;since I have other dogs,I assume it was caused by a fight, but she could have caught it on the fence or on a branch as well.I'll never know. But yes,I would take the dog to the vet ASAP.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

My dog scratches so bad that he has scabbs. He does not have fleas or anything like that. He pulls out his hair when he bites at his skin. I don't know if he has a skin problem or what? He also sheds really bad and once again I dont know if it is from a skin problem or what? PLEASE HELP HIM!

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

My Dog has a bad skin problem that is very similar. We took him to the vet because he was scratching all the time and loosing his hair in places, the skin looked like it hurt.

This is what the Vet said and some other things I've figured out that really make a difference.

The vet said that it is most likely a skin allergy. It could be a number of things, off brand dog food, allergies to plants in the yard. And you can try to do tests to figure out what allergy it is but it might not tell you anything and the test are really expensive. He said the best thing to do is to GIVE HIM BENADRYL! Yes the over the counter medicine we take.

I have a big dog so I have to give him three tablets.

BUT YOUR DOGS PROBLEM MIGHT NOT BE ALLERGIES IT MIGHT BE SOMTHING MORE SEROUS LIKE MANGE.

Read this it will help to identify what your dog has!

http://dogs.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Dog_Skin...

Now this might not help long term to cure anything but this is what I do to make my dog more comfortable.

He hates it but I give him a bath

I then use put on peroxide to disinfect the skin, I warm it in the microwave for 30seconds so it's not cold. It's so simple but I found is the best thing to disinfect.

There are also shampoo閳ユ獨 and soaps that are made for skin problems, that you can get at the pet store. Or sometimes I just use a gentle soap like dove.

And after I wash him so his skin not dry I put on a little no fragrance no color no nothing lotion. I know I'm saying on his skin, well his hair didn't grow back in places like his neck and his belly. So I can see the skin to work with it.

If it was me I would take your dog to the vet, because it might be something more serous that can transfer to people. It's important you really know what it is.

It's funny you asked this I was just on my way to take care of my dogs skin. If I take care of his skin frequently his allergy doesn't bother him.

I hope you figure out what your dog has.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Scratch for him!

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

go to the vet he may be allergic

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Take him to the vet and describe the problem. He might have a food allergy. He might have a skin condition. Either way, he should see the vet.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Take him to the vet. It is the only way you are going to get to the bottom of this.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

My vet calls it allergies. Advantage always seems to ease the pain fleas or no fleas. Get some medicated shampoo and or some anti-inflamatory med for yer dog.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

He might be suicidal!!

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Buy a supplement called Linatone, it makes the hair and skin supple. Also, get some Sulfodene spray and spray the dog down in the itchy spots 2x a day. Sounds like extremely dry skin, but both of those products will help.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

take him to the vet..the same happened with my dog, he had skin scrapes and everything turned out to be a severe form of dermatitis

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Get him some flea spray and a collar!

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

The best help should come from your veterinarian. They will be able to find the cause of the itching, and then can prescribe the proper treatment for the ailment. Why not make an appointment now? Good luck.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

It sounds like he is having an allergic reaction to something.

You need to consider what type of cleaners you use on your carpets, what you are feeding him and what you wash his bedding with.

I would talk to the vet about what type of anti itch meds you can give to him.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

You said he doesn't have fleas, so he has dry skin. Put a table spoon of vegetable oil in every feeding you give him. Not only will that help his skin, but eventually his fur will shine be and healthier.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

This could be so many things; mites, allergies, a nutritional deficiency. Food tends to be a high scratching allergen. I'd slowly change his food to a single protein, single carb (Wellness has a 'simple solution' food) and I'd add a fish oil capsule to his food. AND I'd take him to a vet who might be able to give you some insight into the dogs issues.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

My dog did this and i tryed everything i could thnk of and then finally i tryed different dog foods and came to this one for my dog which is a small dog around l0 lbs. I now use Little Bites Indoor Complete and this has worked its by Purina and its not an expenisve food which i did try. Good Luck.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

possible dry skin....dogs are carnivores and naturally require animal oils.....do not over bathe your dog and if meat drippings are generated in your home, put some on your dogs food. also, pet shops or your grocery pet section have stuff to add to your pets food. one brand name I recall is Linatone...but there are many. Again, over bathing is hard a on a dogs skin...dogs are also susceptible to allergies...

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

to help himis to take him to a vet that`s it .because you don`t know the problem.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Sounds like allergies. Allergies can be caused by food, fleas or environmental causes (like pollen).

Choose a high quality food. I feed my allergic dog California Natural which is formulated for allergic dogs and has few ingredients and ones that tend not to trigger allergies. Look for a food with no corn or wheat. Though rare, my dog is also allergic to lamb so it takes some detective work to find out what the triggers are. A food like CA Natural is good because there are only a few ingredients.

Keep the dog on Frontline Plus or Advantage at all times. Even one flea can cause miserable flea allergies.

Regular baths with an oatmeal dog shampoo can remove allergens from coats. My dogs get done 1-2 times a month.

Dogs can get benadryl to control itching. Ask your vet how much is the right dose for your dog. If nothing else works, there are other treatments your vet can try and if absolutely nothing helps, a veterinary dermatologist as a last resort can usually get to the bottom of it. This helped my friends dog when everything else failed. Good luck.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

ok.gave him a nice warm bath or gave him a medicines on his skins to stop stratching.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

sounds to me like your dog is suffering from allergies. best thing to do is take your pooch to the vet to be sure. he will probably need antibiotics for the sores as well. until you get him to the vet ask yourself has ANYTHING around him changed around the same time he started scratching? (his food, bowl, environment, etc.)if so change it back or have him avoid them! you can put some hydrocortizone cream(get it in any drugstore) on his sores and where hes scratching or wash him with an oatmeal shampoo until you get him to a vet(that should help with the itching).but these are only soothers until you get him to a vet because ultimately thats what you need to do!

by the way: superbad what does obedience have to do with a dog with skin problems?

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Shave him

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

What quality of food are you feeding him. Many dogs itch like that if they eat "cheaper" brands of dog food. We have to feed our dogs Iams or one loses all his hair. Make sure you're not feeding any table scraps until you're able to determine whether or not it's a food allergy. Food allergies are becoming more and more common in dogs.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

Well, it definitely sounds like an allergy problem. I'm not sure why your veterinarian would suggest a flea allergy, if there were no evidence of fleas. Are you certain that your dog is flea free?

If he's not being treated with a topical 'spot on' flea preventative, chances are he could have picked up some fleas, especially if he's been adopted and maybe not had the best of care previously. It doesn't need a whole lot of fleas to set up a reaction, it's the flea saliva dogs are allergic to and just a few bites can cause problems. you can find out more about dog allergies at this url http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-a...

If you're certain it's not fleas, I'd suggest looking for iother possible causes - such as a contact allergy (maybe to a new bed/bedding etc.) or dog food allergies - this is pretty common.

Most allergies cause skin problems, such as excessive itching, biting, scratching and so on. usually producing red, irritated skin, hot spots etc. Do watch for any signs of infection such as swelling, 'hot' areas, pus etc. If this happens you'll need antibiotics from your veterinarian.

Otherwise, you're only option is to try to eliminate the allergy trigger by changing your dogs food to one that's been designed for dogs with sensitivities/allergies ( http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-f... )and also paying attention to his environment (maybe change his bed, use different detergent, shampoo etc,.).

To help keep him more comfortable and reduce the itching for now, try a product with hydrocortisone which helps with itching and inflammation. There are also natural products and food supplements for these conditions. You can see a range of products to help your dog at the url below. Best of luck, hope he's doing better soon.

How can i get my dog to stop scratching?

It's either mange or allergies. You need a vet.

Dog obsessed with rump chewing?

Half chow mix with an anxiety disorder. Heavy and expensive doses of anesthetic everytime she visits the vet. Developing a worsening skin condition so far

treated with flea drops, antihistamines, sprays of all kinds, prescribed 2 different antibiotics, benadryl, wore an E-Collar for over a month and washings

monthly but now I can't even touch her. She panics and hides and tears her hair out and eats it which explains why she hardly has bowel movements anymore.

She's depressed, I'm broke. She's running around with raw red skin on her rump, legs, and now a couple of places on her temples and either whines or sleeps

her days away. I believe there is a certain amount of OCD here. She's not interested in anything but chewing herself.

Dog obsessed with rump chewing?

Your vet has tried every possible medicine and treatment to no avail...dogs who have pent-up energy and lack of mental challenge become frustrated and bored, when they can't find an outlet to relieve their frustration, many find release by constant licking or chewing himself which brings a small measure of satisfaction, after an extended time with no release and nothing to look forward to, the dog will develope low self-esteem, become depressed and exhibit panic and anxiety, and with his obsessive chewing, the painful sores hurt, he is so miserable he doesn't want any contact.

This may seem too simple...take your dog for a 45 minute walk everyday, he won't want to in the beginning, but after awhile he will start looking forward to it. It's not a quick fix, it may take a while...you will see a decline in his anxiety, (a tired dog will be more content) he will enjoy your time together and become less scared and panicked.

You can apply antibiotic ointment to his sores to soothe, help fight infection and to heal faster...also changing to a more nutritional dogfood with antioxidants.

Good luck to a pleasant and loving future between you and your dog.

Dog obsessed with rump chewing?

Is she home alone a lot? Dogs generally don't like to be alone.

Have you thought about asking your vet to see if your dog would be a good candidate for an anti-depressant (Prozac or Clomicalm).

Dog obsessed with rump chewing?

I have a chow mix too, Chow and Golden Retriever to be exact. He Started having an itch problem on his rump and I looked at the skin and it had a yellow flaky look and a red patch in the center.

First I tried anti itch cream, it stopped the itch but it did not heal the problem, so I used antibiotic ointment on the area and it stopped it and cleared it and it hasn`t returned.

I hope this helps and here is something you might look into... http://www.dinovite.com/products.html

TV has shown some who look alike-amazing. We had, over the years, 43 dogs on the farm and my favorite was an Australian Blue Healer-full blood, came to the farm starved, never found the owners but had a sweet face so would not mind looking like her

but actually no resemblance-all outdoor dogs.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

Hi, my husband and I adopted a puppy when my daughter was close to a year old. He was a male australian sheperd/sheltie mix and at the time we did know they were lying about the mom being a sheltie(she resembled a lg. tan rat with very little hair anywhere on her body) they said they got her from an aussie breeder who bred her to aussies to make small versions and that they beat her there and that was why she was so cowardly? hid in a corner of the barn the whole time we were there. we originally had went to look at their purebred aussies but they were terrified of people so we decided nay on them but this sweet not terribly cute but wonderfully outgoing puppy came up to us and climbed in my lap and snuggled. Needless to say Philo became a well loved member of the family. we went on walks every night, spent the weekends hiking, boating etc and when 2 weeks later we found out the birth control didnt work(again folks I thought the shot was 100 percent but oh well) we were ok with it

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

I am sorry that you are so upset about this, but he has attacked everyone in your family and seriously injuried your 2 year old. There is no question. Even before your hubby gets back, the dog must be put down. I believe you already know this, but are looking for support.

Try going to petloss.com, you can even post a memorial to your puppy.

UPDATE

OK, so I see your q now. No, do not get another dog yet. Let Sophie take her classes and adjust to the new home environment, same with the kids. Understand, this has been stressful for everyone in the house.

After everything is settled down, go the animal shelter. You do not need to take a dog just because you went, wait until your new friend is waiting for you.

When I lost my dog of 17 years, I grieved and then took my daughter to the shelter. We went multiple times because our new friend wasn't there. Finally we found our new best buddy and we can all relax and have fun.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

by the time the baby gets here the dog will know justhow much he is loved and that it is ok. I do reccomend taking a recieving blanket with you to the hospital and getting the baby's scent on it and take it home before you and the baby come home so the dog knows its a family member. it helped with our skittish dog.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

I'm not real hopeful about this situation from the history of the dog's background that you described. He came from an unethical backyard breeder who was breeding "aussies to make smaller versions". So she was breeding runts to runts.

You say the mother resembled a large tan rat with hardly any hair on her body. That dog was obviously very sick. Puppy mills will breed a female four or five times a year until her body is literally worn out. That sounds like the mother dog you saw.

Then you say that the pups they had for sale were terrified of people. I'd wonder why. Either they weren't properly socialized, which would be counterproductive for a breeder who wants to sell the puppies. Or they had behavior or mental problems from the foolish interbreeding the breeder was doing.

Your dog may have uncorrectable mental problems, sad to say, both from his genetic makeup and the way he was raised as a very young puppy. I know you love the dog, but I would listen to the vet. He has twice recommended the dog be put down, and there is no reason he would make that recommendation except for thinking it was best for the dog and everyone concerned.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

Unfortunately, I agree that putting this dog to sleep may be the only alternative. It is no life for your family to be afraid of the dog. Its also no life for the dog to be anxious and see fearful that he would bite his own family members. It sounds like you have done everything you can. Don't wait until he bites your child - because it sounds like it will happen.

Ok, so I think no one realized you were still writing. About Sophie - training, training, training. And I mean literally don't stop training. Just keep putting her in more classes, its strengthens your bond with her, socializes, and give her confidence because she can understand what you want from her. Also Aussies are great agility dogs. Look into putting her into agility or fly ball classes or groups.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

you really need to put this dog down before he does serious damage.

he is a real danger to you, your neighbors, friends %26amp; anyone he comes in contact with.

you have been told this by every professional you have taken this dog to, I don't understand why you hesitate. I understand you love him, but he can't be fixed. it is a shame what he has already done to your other dog.

please have him euth'd. he can't be a happy dog

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

Long question. Are you asking if you should keep this dog with a new baby coming into the house??? If you are the answer is no. This dog right form the start had a horrible beginning. This is in his genes not in his head.

You've been through several trainers already. What you should do now is up to you but I would not want this dog with these problems in a home with a new born.

OMG now he has attacked your child and your still wondering what to do? Wake up and smell the coffee! Take him and have him put down.

NOTE: This was a very long way to ask about getting another dog. Right now I'd say no. Wait until your new baby is older and then make up your mind. Get Sophie into classes and then look at other breeds there at the class and talk to others there who have children and see which breed you will like and who Sophie likes. Talk to the trainer also they will guide you in your new search too. Good luck!

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

It sounds like you need professional help ASAP!! Don't give up trying to find a trainer who is willing to help you. They are out there and there's no such thing as a hopeless dog. In the meantime, don't let your children around him, especially when there are toys or food around. Find out what triggers the aggression--is it dominace, fear, or overzealous herding instinct? While you're looking for a trainer, you could try keeping a leash on the dog 24/7 and immediately correcting unwanted behavior with a snap on the collar. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

I'm so sorry about your situation. Just from reading what you told me, it would probally be best for the saftey of your children and others that he be euthanized. You obviously put alot of effort into trying to get him help. Behaviorists, vets and trainers work with people who have dogs with problems everyday. The one I know really do think of things that may be possible to avoid having to euthanize a dog. But in this situation with so many animal professionals suggesting you euthanize, i think i would agree with them. I know it is so hard, you love him and he is a family member, but he is endangering other family members. What if he attacked your child in the face and left permanant deformities, or worse. What if your children learn to fear dogs because of him. Even worse, what if he bites someone who sues you for everything you have. Having this dog around is very dangerous. I'm so sorry, but it would probally be best for everyone if you euthanized him. I don't even thing giving him to people that didn't have any children would be a good idea with his history.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

For what it's worth, I think you did the right thing. You probably went further to save this dog than most people would have. It sounds like Sophie is a sweet dog and hopefully her socialization can progress now. I'd like to recommend a book for you and your husband to read. It's called "A Good Dog" and was written by Jon Katz. I'm sorry about Philo. I know that despite his problems, he was part of your family and I'm sure you loved him. It's a heartbreaking situation.

Dog, mental disorder, attacking children?

Sounds like your dog came from a puppy mill or BYB who did nothing with the dogs.. It sucks but if the dog is attacking your 6month old baby just because you picked him up means you should do one of 3 things.. Try and find a place for the dog where he can live out his life without being a danger to others.. sometimes there are people who have shelters where even dangerous dogs can live out their lives. 2) you can try to contact a different professional trainer experienced with "red zone" dogs, maybe your dog could still be rehabilitated but you cant keep him near your children anymore its not safe. Go here to find trainers in your area... http://www.dogpro.org/

or finally you can have the dog euthanised, if you feel he is a danger and will never be rehabilitated. I dont know what to say other than you cant keep the dog if he is endangering your children.. he has severe aggression problems and it could be breeding, psychological or mental, or just behavioural. It really sucks that nobody has helped you out so far... maybe you can find some advice here as well.. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dogs-701/Over...
