Putting on a Dog Bow?

I bought a bow for my Shih tzu's hair and i cant figure out how to put it in. It has three rubber bands connected to it, any ideas on how to get it in right with out hurting my puppies hair?

Putting on a Dog Bow?

i showed shih tzu's so i can answer this perfectly. pull the hair on top of the head into one latex rubber band(seperate from the bow. take a rat tail comb, seperate the hair in two pieces one forward one back. put another latex band on the front section. i am assuming that you have purchased a good quality pre made bow, make sure there are no loose beads or glitter(it can fall in the eyes). place all of the rubber bands around the front sections latex band. just place it don't wrap the bow bands around.

then take the back portion of hair and join it with the front section and place another latex band around the two pieces. if your puppy is still young that is about as much as you can do. if you need a visual :thedivadogbowtique.com is the best that i have found, and i buy my bows there. as for hurting, it is not the most comfortable for the dog, just don't pull to hard.

Putting on a Dog Bow?

I never was able to figure this out. I had a yorkie and I would get the bow in and then she would freak out and it would fall out.

Good luck...I realized my dog HATED it so I just stopped doing it.

Putting on a Dog Bow?

pull a strand of hair through each rubber band and wind the bands around each strand as a pony tail and get it fairly tight SO it won't fall out. I guess three is to make it even. Do one at a time. I always bought a small piece of ribbon and just tied it tight around a strand.

In 1984 when my first girl was born the hospital used KY Jelly to stick bows on the babies and I did and it really worked.

It sticks and gets rubbery, not slick, seriously!!!

Putting on a Dog Bow?

Professional groomers wrap the rubber band tightly around the jaws of a pair of hemostats (medical clamp). Open the clamp a little bit. Grab up a tuft of hair. Close the clamp on the hair. Slide the rubber band down over the hair and remove the clamp. The trick is to get a big enough tuft of hair and get the band wound tight enough that it can grip far enough away from the roots so as not to pull on the hair. It takes some practice to get right.

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

I have a chocolate lab, and whenever I take a bath he tries to rub in my wet hair and in my wet towel!!! and he will do anything he can to rub on my hair or the towel. why is he doing that??? HELP!!

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

Because the towels and your hair have YOUR scent all over them, and he loves it! You should be flattered! If you don't want him to do it, command him to sit while you hang up the towels and do your hair.

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

well my dog loves a wet towel its mainly because they have a high temp and lots of fur so it feels good on them

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

Because they smell like you and he loves you!! My roommates dog spends the entire day in her bed. She LOVES it in there because it smells like her mama! Your hair, if it's long, he's probably trying to play with it! lol

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

Thats not a bad thing its actually good. Because when you take a shower your sense is sorta good and its on your towel and your dog wants to smell you.

Why is my Dog doing that???? HELP!!?

Because the towels and your hair have YOUR scent all over them, and he loves it! You should be flattered! If you don't want him to do it, command him to sit while you hang up the towels and do your hair.

Why dose my dog keep getting boils under the skin?

I brought her to the vet and they just said that i'm sapose to keep squeezing out the gross stuff..Not to mention she looses a patch of hair where the boils is,in time hair dose grow back.

Why dose my dog keep getting boils under the skin?

Find another vet, one that will tell you what the problem is and get to the cure. Sounds like the vet you are using isn't interested in solving the problem and getting that poor pooch out of discomfort and pain. Please change vet's , the dog could have any number of different thing's wrong. Good luck.

Why dose my dog keep getting boils under the skin?

Please get a second opinion!!!

That does not sound like very good advice!!

It could be a number of serious conditions, including skin cancer!

Your dog is worth it!!!!

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

Sometimes, I would see a patch of hair like half way out of her fur and I would pull it very lightly and it would come out easily. And she sheds a lot. Everytime she lays on the couch, there would be a lot of hair left behind. I'm not sure what's wrong with her or what to do.

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

This totally depends on the breed. If she is husky, malamute, chow, or another breed similar to this, completely normal. These types of dogs have two coats. The first is a smooth layer over their skin and the second is the coat you can see. What happens with dual coats is, when they shed, the inner layers pushes out the outer layer, leading to the big clumps of fur you're describing. I called this the "molting phase" when it happens with my husky/shepard mix.

As long as you're not seeing redness or the dog seems itchy or irritated, you're good.

Important note: when your pup is shedding like this, it's important to groom a lot and get that shed fur out of there, because if left alone the dog can develop hot spots (raw, itchy sores that they lick until they're a wound) where the hair has died but not shed naturally, and this is crazy expensive to treat.

So, grab a brush and have fun! It's a great bonding experience for you and your pet, and fun to see just exactly how much hair can come off one dog. You'll be left wondering how there is any hair left!

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

what kind of breed do you have? for some breeds its normal for a ton of shedding

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

some dogs just require daily brushing, or more frequent grooming. i don't think its anything to worry about. just a lot of work on some dogs.

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

Halipicia

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

What breed or mix of breeds is your dog? Also, the type of dog food that the dog is on is very important to coat and skin. Try a high end food, kibble, like Canidae, EVO, etc. It will save you many $'s down the road.

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

Your dog is probably just prone to shedding. Many breeds are.

The groomer I talked to yesterday told me about this "shed less" package that they offer for dogs who have alot of hair and are prone to shedding. Long hair breeds are the most common who get the treatment. What they do is use a special comb and shampoo and do this in depth treatment to remove all loose hair and hair that is on the verge of coming out. It costs about $26 to have it done and I plan on getting it done for my Chow/Husky mix as soon as he heals from his neutering. You might look into something like this for your dog.

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

it depends what breed your dog is try googling you dog breed and see whether the dog should be shedding if not i suggest you call your vet. Good Luck!

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

ya depends wat breed u have. i know i use a special comb that really takes off the loose hairs, it was like 5 bucks. idk wat its called but it kinda looks like a comb but w a handle, it works well just use it when ever u a free time and dogs love it! it scraches them real well mine go insane

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

Almost all dogs shed-with a few exceptions-and changes in weather, diet etc will all cause shedding. You can take a clipper blade-#40 which you can get pretty inexpensively at pet stores-and comb it through the dog. Start with small sections at a time and run it through until you get no more hair. Do this every few days for a week or two and then you should only have to do it once every other week or when you see a lot of hair. I have 4 fur babies and I have been doing this for 3 years and it has greatly cut down on the hair in my house..it works great on cats too!

My dog sheds a lot very unusually. What's wrong with her?

You might trying a dog food with a high protien percentage. I pour bacon grease over the food to add a little fat content. It really seems to give them healthy looking fur.

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

My dog has a spot on his throat above his chest where it looks like the collar is rubbing his hair off or something... it's not too tight by any means, you can fit two fingers between the collar and his neck, but does anybody know why this might be happening? Every time I take his collar off, it seems like the plastic buckle is right where the spot is. I take his collar off whenever I can.. he only wears it when I take him outside. It's just a nylon collar that I bought at petsmart.. maybe a half an inch wide I think? Is there maybe another kind of collar that would prevent this from happening? And also, is there anything I could maybe put on the spot that would protect it? It's almost completely hairless. I'm not cruel to him by ANY MEANS, so anybody who's gonna make any comments like that will be reported. He has a very good life, I'm just having this little collar problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!! :)

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

My dog used to have a collar like that and it used to turn her neck red. Now I have a leather one that doesn't leave any marks. Does he drag you while he is on the leash? That could be one of the problems. I don't know what you could put on the mark, but the hair should grow back on its own.

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

It could be a number of things- fleas, mange, allergy, infection. You should take him to your vet and get the sore checked out. Ouch!

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

Possibly due to tugging.

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

Look into getting a halti head collar or a harness. If the hair is rubbing thin due to the buckle then elimate the collar, or look into getting a prong collar instead.

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

get a padded collar...

it could be something more..not everything can be prevented with a wormer or a vaccine...

could be a hot spot...ring worm...

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

My dog had the same problem, get a leather one that is rounded (no edges).

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

you need a bigger collar. My dogs neck was like that too and I could fit 2 fingers in too.

You can wash the spot with anti-bacterial shampoo for dogs.

Thats what I did for my dog and leave the collar off for a little bit then put a bigger one on!

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

He could also be scratching it, and that can also be contributing to the hair coming off!!

Bald spot on my dog's neck?

I would strongly advise taking him into your vet. Spots where hair is missing is very possibly a sign of Dermidex Mange. It is very easy for a vet to see if this is your dogs problem. All it takes is a small skin scraping and a look in the microscope. Check the rest of his body for the patches as well. Often you will see the patches on the face, neck, top of head as well as the feet, It is completely treatable but does take time. there are both dips as well as oral medications to treat and get rid of them. Personally, from speaking with our vet she would prefer to use the oral medication if it is caught early than the dips. I have seen the medications work in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks but have seen it also take 5 months. Important thing is to take care of it early rather than wait. It could also be from the collar. Try getting a simple leather collar. I have seen some dogs have a problem with the nylon especially those that have very fine hair. Good Luck

My dog has brown things..?

On his chin. I was scratching his neck when I noticed a few blobs. When I looked in the light I found a few brown things that were attached to his hair, but when I looked even closer there was a small blobs of a bunch of brown 'things'. Teddy has long hair, he's an Australian Shepherd, and for Thanksgiving he went to a kennel where he came back with fleas. I was wondering if the brown 'things' could be related to that. Thanks for the help!

My dog has brown things..?

If they look like they might be "bloated" it could be ticks. I would keep and eye for another day or so. If they get bigger try to pull them out and if they come out burn them with a lighter or dunk them in alcohol (that will kill the ticks). Otherwise I would call a vet and describe what the brown things look like, they may be able to tell you what they are with out even going to the vet. Hope this helped you.

My dog has brown things..?

ask a vet

My dog has brown things..?

maybe ticks i dunno

My dog has brown things..?

They could be. If they are attached...they could be ticks. I would get a flea and tick medicine from your Vet and get him tested for any kind of doggie disease. Depending on the Kennel...some places have been known to keep yucky doggies if they weren't a responsible kennel.

My dog has brown things..?

Put them in water. If they turn into red liquid, then it's blood- Flea poop.

My dog has brown things..?

Are they scabs? Some dogs and cats have flea allergies and as a result, they scratch at the area's and cause scabs to form. How big are the blobs? If that is the case, then you might consider getting him an allergy shot. Also, is the flea problem resolved? A good indication as to whether a dog still has flea's is "flea dirt"...it looks and feels just like that...dirt in area's of the skin and fur (usually found at the base of the tail or neck).

My dog has brown things..?

Yes flea puek! its disgusting! or if they're too big

for flea puek its mud! if you love dogs e-mail me at little_miss_perfect24601@yahoo

My dog has brown things..?

Your dog has been eating his own turds. Or someone elses turds. Not unusual for dogs, just remember this next time he licks your face.

These brown things are like the dingleberries on your own hairy @ss.

My dog has brown things..?

Are the brown "things" living? Are they inanimate? If they are living, i would remove them immediately and take the dog to your vet. But they may just be scabs from scratching. Has he been treated for his flea infestation. If not, he should be taken to the vet as soon as possible (not an emergency clinic, unless he is dull, lethargic and his mucous membranes (gums) are white), to address the flea situation and also treat him for tapeworms, which are carried by the dog and cat flea. It also may be dirt, fur mats or something else benign.

My dog has brown things..?

depends on what they actually look like. If they are blobs of brown things, not moving but stuck to the hair, they could be flea eggs. If he just had fleas at thanksgiving, it is likely he could still have egg sacs, that still have fleas in them. If they are moving could be fleas or ticks.

What we did when my dog had fleas that we could not get rid of (after 3 flea dustings), we completely cut all of the hair off that had egg sacs and gave him a couple really really good baths in flea shampoo, one a week for three weeks. I think removing all of the egg sacs worked because he didn't get any afterwards.

My dog has brown things..?

If it is attached than u need to talk to a vet immeditaly my grand mother has a dog who had brown things on her face and needed to get it removed, or if it is unattached than it is a tick

My dog has brown things..?

Call and ask your vet.

My dog has brown things..?

IT MAY BE DRIED BLOOD FROM THE FLEA BITES WET SOME SEE IF THEY ARE RED THEY ARE SOMETIMES CALLED FLEA TRACKS

My dog has brown things..?

HE NEEDS A BATH

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

I used the deshedder comb and alot of hair has come out. But I believe he has dry scalp. Because as I was combing his hair I seened dandruff.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

feed him a raw egg once a week

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

hair cut. He feel better

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

well it could be losing its winter coat mine is.Brush the hair and then give it a bath.Eventually they will lose the winter coat.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

This is the time of year when dogs are shedding their winter coats. Just keep brushing him and it will stop at some point. You can place a teaspoon full of olive oil on his food and it will help with the dry skin too.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

Stress and temperature changes can play a big part in the condition of a dogs coat. Also diet is very important, I would suggest that you consult a vet to be sure ~ It is not something that can be accurately 'diagnosed' on line,..good luck! :)

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

you can't stop the shedding but add a spoon of vegitable oil to his food for the dry scalp. every day. I use to vaccume my dogs that shed and they loved it. they would come running when i turned on the vaccum. I also took the clippers and shaved one so his hair was shorter when it shed.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

what you can do is buy a special shampoo at a nearest store or a pet store

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

To minimize the shedding---or rather having the hair all over the place...I was going to suggest you do exactly what you are doing. Brush, brush, and brush--ritually, like once a day. Your dog will love the attention. Doing this also limits as much hair that can potentially on the couch or elsewhere. As for dandruff...talk to your vet about an organic conditioner or non-toxic oil that you can rub into the fur once a week or so. This will make the dog feel better too.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

dogs like humans suffer from dry skin, especially in the winter, there is a lanolin that ur pet will have u can buy to help eliminate the dry skin, as for the shedding long hair as well as short hair dogs naturally shed their winter coat to summer coat so on and so forth, if it becomes more bothersome seek a vets advice

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

just might be a breed that sheds alot. But animals can be stressed causing shedding. Try playing soothing music for your dog at bedtime....and if that doesn't work....tell him/her to stop shedding....neither worked for me though......

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

if it is seasonal shedding then theres not much you can do other then comb the dog frequently outside to stop the fur falling off inside. if it is all year round shedding you can buy a cod liver oil suplement from the pet shop.

a raw diet can also help a great deal and you will notice your dog will be much healthier.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

Cut his hair.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

It is about time for dogs to loose their winter coats. Still use the deshedder comb. there are some treats out there that minimize shedding too. I dont think the "dandruff" you see is dandruff. You know how dogs do. It's probaly dirt or something.

My dog shed'a alot. What can I do to minimize the shedding?

OK I do have a few dogs myself so one of my dogs shed's a lot because of old age what we do for her is they actually make foods that can help with improvement of her coat.

The next one does a lot of fur biting and sheds she is on the food i was talking about and at the pet store they have a special brush just to get a lot of the shedding fur off of her. Plus for fur biting which occurs a lot with shedding they make a spray you can put on the dog after a bath prevents that.

AND the 3rd one has doggy dandruff for her we have a prescribed shampoo for her and just brushing her hair in the opposite direction makes a lot of that dead skin come off.

Those all can be effective ways of taking care of that issue.

My dog has some type of allergy?

hello i have a maltipoo and he's a year old... he has always had pretty soft hair but lately he has been biting his lower back.. i came home froms school and now he has no hair in that area because he has been biting it. I had some lotion that is pink and people use to for poison ivy or skin allergies i put a little on him and he stop scratching it for like 2 days and now he's doing the same thing... he has two little bumps what do you think it is. he has an appointment with the vet in teo weeks but i just wanted to know what can i do i dont want him to be scratching and biting his lower back anymore.

My dog has some type of allergy?

Maybe he has feas! If he has been running around in your yard then maybe. He might just have a skin infection though. Humans can get hives which are red dots but I doubt that's it! Hope I could help!

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that she

my dad is allergic to shedding dogs and my mom will freakk if hair gets anywhere!

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Get a labordoodle, they are big dogs that are bred not to shed, expensive though.

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Here's an idea: Enjoy the dog you have now.

Kristen: Perhaps you're getting a bad rating because you didn't READ the question.

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Skin/fur/hair problems are often related to diet, so if you are really concerned you may re-evaluate what you're feeding. I'd say stick with the dog you have now. It's a maltese and being around another large dog could possibly injure it.

Woops, i read it wrong. sorry

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

I want a maltese!

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

There aren't as many "non-shedding" (in other words less shedding) large breeds as there are small breeds. I'm thinking you want a pure bred:

-greyhound

-poodle

-any dog with hair and is single layered.

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Your dad isn't allergic to dog hair, he's allergic to dander from the skin so it doesn't matter.

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Maltese play nice with other small dogs... as they act like a big dog inside a small body. If you get a larger dog there is a chance that the big dog will hurt or kill it even if it is by accident, and that isnt a risk you should be willing to take.

I agree with some of the other posters, enjoy the dog you have now.

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

All dogs shed even if you don't see the hair they have to shed because it grow thicker in the winter and comes off in the summer so they are not that hot so you should just keep the one you have because a big dog will just shed more

I really want another dog i have one- a maltese. But i want a big one now. I dont like dogs that shed!?

Here is a list of dogs that shed little. Some are small, medium, large.

Bald spots and my dog?

well my dog was matted because i was away for the weekend

i guess she rolled around in the dirt or something because from thursday evening to now she had 1/2 of her body covered in tangles, no choice but to cut her. i cut her hair very short and noticed bald spots. she bit at the tangles because it was itching her. was this the cause?

Bald spots and my dog?

Take her to the vet, it could be a rash making her hair fall out of even mange!

Bald spots and my dog?

I wonder if there were bugs in the dirt that got under her hair/fur and irritated her skin which made her chew and that would pull the hair out.

Poor baby. Well, you're going to the Vet asap, right?

They might suggest a special bath and some meds.

And, they'll probably give you a cone/e-collar so she can't bite herself and the hot spots can heal.

Hope she's all better soon.

Who was "watching" her, by the way? That sounds like a lot of damage to happen in 3-4 days. Was someone not paying attention?

**The oatmeal bath will be very soothing for her. No chemical smell and great for her skin.

Bald spots and my dog?

It might be ringworms. Its a skin disease. But you'll need a vet to tell you for sure. And no its not a worm or caused by a worm. Its usually caused by mold. Does your dog lay by the heater a lot? Thats one way dogs can get it. It could also be a wear spot. From what I know about disease and disorders its nothing to worry about too much. If its is ringworm your vet will give u a cream and that will help get rid of it.

Bald spots and my dog?

If there is no redness or irritation, then it is safe to wait and see if the spots get better on their own. It could very well have been from her hair being so matted and dirty. If it gets worse at all, looks red or irritated, then get her to the vet, but for now, just keep an eye on it.

Bald spots and my dog?

When a dog's hair matts together like it did on your dog, it pulls tight against the skin. When you loosen the hair that was pulled tight it feels good to scratch. Imagine having your hair up in a tight ponytail all day. When you take it down it feels funny on your scalp. If you got all of the matts out then it is ok to bathe in a soothing shampoo like oatmeal. Make sure you rinse all of the shampoo out especially the feet and under the armpits because if you leave shampoo on the dog it also makes it itchy. The dog should feel better. If you try that and he still itches then call your vet but typically ringworm in dogs shows up as a lump on their face, its not like ringworm in people, you dont always have to go to the vet to prove that you love your dog, sometimes you have to use common sense. Good luck.

Boxer with hair loss?

i have a almost 1yr old female boxer and she has some kind of skin problem she has these blue colored hair loss patchs with little bumps in them and she itcys all the time we took her to the vet and they said that there is some type of mold in the house that is makeing her do that but we have moved to a new house and she is still doing it i have went to the petstore and tryed all kinds of sampoo on her she is utd on shots and she is on frontline does anybody know what this could be i,am taking her back to the vet next week to get a skin test but i would like to know before hand if anybody has had a dog that has done this before thanks

Boxer with hair loss?

she could have ticks or mites or a parasite.Take her to the vet and get a skin scrape. I am talking about demodex mite which attack the ears and become very itchy, and make the anemic.I suggest that the vet takes a blood sample and check that she is not anemic.

Boxer with hair loss?

Boxers can be known to have skin disorders. I'd join a boxer group of people and see what they think, or switch vets.

Boxer with hair loss?

A friend of mine has a Boxer with this same ailment. He tells me that it a skin rash/allergy. He uses special food and shampoo's as well as a medication from the vet.

He also says not to leave your Boxer out in the sun for too long, as it to get worse.

Boxer with hair loss?

I have a female 3 year old boxer- same problem. I have gone through thousands. She is allergic to freaking dust mites; which are everywhere in las vegas. We put in wood floors and bought air purifiers and she is on prednosone occasionally to control her itchyness. We tried allergy injections for a year with no luck. Your best bet is to find out what she is allergic to (ask ur vet to do a blood test) then go from there; it might just be her food.

You aren't going to save that much energy. If you want to save energy, spend the day with all electronics turned off! %26lt;:-0

Should I save energy and not blow dry my hair this morning?

Sure, save the world.......

Should I save energy and not blow dry my hair this morning?

LOL. I like your pic.

i think you should save energy. if its raining, it will get all frizzy anyway, and wont look good. and the whole thing will be a waste of time darl.

beside the hair in your pic, its so unique. be different.

Should I save energy and not blow dry my hair this morning?

During rainy season don't try to save energy at the cost of your hair. That will become costly for you by developing fungus and dandruf, the treatment of which would be quite long term, costly and itching.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

my dog has started to get bald patches and going scabby under her armpits , she is also starting to lose hair on her belly, she hasnt got fleas though, so can anyone please help,

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Take her to the vet, could be an allergy or infection that only the vet can deal with

Whats wrong with my dog ?

this might help:

http://www.animalherbcompany.com/article...

Whats wrong with my dog ?

It could be mange take her to the vet and ask for them to do a skin scrapping mange is contagious to animals and people

Whats wrong with my dog ?

You need to take her to vet as could have allergy, mange or thyroid probs

Whats wrong with my dog ?

It sounds like what they call mange. My dog had similar symptoms and that's what the vet told me she had. Good luck!

Whats wrong with my dog ?

take the dog to the vet. It could be mange, thyroid or other illness.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Your dog is most likely to have a common fungus problem. Ask your vet to give you a special percripstion dog shampoo, and wash your dog as advised.

This normally only takes one or two weeks.

Hope that helps!

Whats wrong with my dog ?

It sounds very much like mange. My dog was getting treatment for mange when I first got her, and she was looking much the same as you describe.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

It could be alergies or hot spots, ask your vet he will give you spray for the areas, but to me it sounds like hot spots, my puppy had the same thing! there skin gets irritated from heat rash and they itch it.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Talk to your vet. Could be allergies

Whats wrong with my dog ?

The best thing to do is to have the dog checked out by a vet.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Hi there, I might well be wrong but, this sounds like either eczema or mange or even possibly an allergic reaction to something. Take your dog to the vets they will give you a good answer.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Sounds like seasonal hair loss and will be replaced rapidly in a few weeks time. My Labrador had this and the Vet sent samples away only to find nothing wrong except it cost me over a hundred pounds.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

She either has scabies, or has an alergic skin condition, or possible mange. Whatever the problem clearly she's not normal so your first course of action should be to go see your vet.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

hmm how old is your dog?

it sounds like mange!

but when i got my most recent cav, she did exactly the same and she was pretty bald.. poor thing!

we took her to the vet and they basically said that you know the bugs that grow on OUR eyelashes n body n stuff? well she had an overload of them... maybe because she was the runt and a bit ill. they treated her with a special bath n it went away luckily!

take her to the vet in case.. mange n the condition i talked about can be very annoying for you and your dog and can get alot worse.

Mari

Whats wrong with my dog ?

Is she scratching/biting herself alot? There's loads more parasites a dog can get other then fleas. Take her to the vet to be checked over.

Whats wrong with my dog ?

It sounds like fox mange which can be passed on to humans - take to vet asap...

Whats wrong with my dog ?

sounds like mange or some form of skin desease use benzyl benzote from the chemist use like calomine lotion. if its not mange it will not hurt the dog anyway. if that does not work use a shampoo called polytar its used for people with flaky scalp non of the above will harm the dog as they are used on humans. hope this helps!!

Whats wrong with my dog ?

He may be allergic to something. Or it could be mites which you wouldn't see. Take him to the vet, he can give you cream and tell you what's up.

What is the best dog breed for me???

Wut would be the best small dog breed for a kid w/ a younger sister and an older brother who lives in a town house and has a REALLY small yard??? That and it cant have a lot of hair to groom.

What is the best dog breed for me???

depends....if yoiu have the time, and energy for a dog and your family agree with it, then i recommend a german shepherd. but if not then just get a machanical one like you get in toy shops

What is the best dog breed for me???

A stuffed one. You can pick the color, they never bark or poop, cheap to feed and best of all they require absolutely no time, energy or money.

What is the best dog breed for me???

I have to say a dachshund or a yorkie those are really fun to have around

What is the best dog breed for me???

a dachtsund, or a bichon frise.. bichons don't shed and dont cause allergies. (hypoallergenic). and they are cute!

What is the best dog breed for me???

Why not hit up the animal shelter or rescue and look for a medium sized terrier mix? Tiny dogs are not great with little kids as they are very fragile and can be snippy, something in the 15-20 lb range should be fine, no matter how big your yard is, you still have to take the dog for walks. And I'm guessing you and your brother would not be too happy with some fluffy froofroo looking dog.

What is the best dog breed for me???

none. dogs need a lot of room to run and small dogs dont do good with little kids because the kids can hurt them very easily. so ur pretty much SOL

What is the best dog breed for me???

A dachshund would be perfect for you. I have one. They have feisty personality and want to be played with.

Warning...they are stubborn and can be difficult to house train. So start early.

What is the best dog breed for me???

Small dogs don't do well with small kids. Small kids can be too rough with small dogs and small dogs can be frightened of children.

Toy poodles and Bichons do well in small spaces as long as they are exercised daily. Neither shed, but they do need to be brushed DAILY and need to go to the groomer every few weeks.

No small dog should be around kids that rough house.

What is the best dog breed for me???

mati-poo.half poodle half maltese.

What is the best dog breed for me???

Smooth coat chihuahuas are good and if the child is teached to be loving and gentle with him they will be best friend My youngest son is 17 years old now and has always had chihuahuas

What is the best dog breed for me???

A chihuahua, miniature pinscher, toy manchester terrier, or a toy fox terrier. These are all short haired toy breeds. If you are looking for a real good dog, go to www.akc.org. There you will find alot of helpful information. Good luck!

What is the best dog breed for me???

One great dog would be a lhasa apso they are easily trained. They are laid back and easy going. They love kids, elderly and sick. They don't bark much or jump around a lot. They are quite loving pets. They get along with other pets and other people. There very smart and fast learners. They don't need much room to run. they are small dogs about 12 pounds full grown. They are great companion's. This lady knows all about them you can ask her more questions. www.thecountrycupboardtoo.com She can help you with all pet questions we brought ours from her.

What is the best dog breed for me???

I think that you should probably wait until you aren't living with your parents as having a dog is a great responsiblity. When your life is with in your control it will be a much better time to bring a dog into your life.

For now you can start a pet sitting or pet walking business in your neighborhood to get used to taking care of dogs and get exposed to a vareity of dog breeds to see which one you like, a mutt might be the perfect breed! So for now just try to get experience with dogs and learn as much as you can :) Good luck.

Urban Beauty hair products......?

i just bought urban beauty [tangle free] "finest human hair" its yaki wvg

and i feel kind of stupid because all the reviews online talk about how it sheds like a dog. Do you think i have anything to worry about.....if you have used this brand before PLEASE gimme some feedback

Urban Beauty hair products......?

I have used it before and it does shed pretty bad. What I suggest is to leave it in your hair for only a month and a half to two months because when you leave it in longer it becomes tangled and sheds horribly. It does look great initially but the reviews are not lying. But all weave hair sheds at some time. So work that hair when you have it in and when you start getting huge clumps coming out, then just take it out because it will start to look crazy. Good luck girl.

Dog Bows??

Ok, I have a shih-tzu that is almost a year old now and her hair is always in her eyes. Everytime I put a bow in her hair, clip, or anything, she pulls it out. Does anyone have any advice on how to make her keep them in?? She keeps running into doors and it bothers me. Please help.

Dog Bows??

Tie it in and then put a tiny drop of clear nail polish where the ribbon meets the hair. That's what we did at the grooming shop I worked at.

Dog Bows??

Have you tried the mini black hairbanders? They kinda remind me of the rubberbands kids used with their braces...they are tiny and quite difficult to remove from the hair. They are a continuous rubberband with no metal clasp holding the two ends together, which makes them easier on the hair (lessens breakage). Then put your bow on either with another rubberband or tied on.

Dog Bows??

She might just need a trim. Also I've heard of using superglue on short hair pups to hold in bows. I don't know if that is abusive or not. Finally try Petedge.com they have all sorts of grooming suppllies for a pretty good price.

Dog Bows??

what if you braid her hair back tightly and then put a band in it?

she probably won't be able to get out the braid.

Or better yet, give her a trim! Who cares if it's not what her breed is "supposed" to look like?! at least she wouldn't be running into walls!

Dog Bows??

it almost sounds like she need to see a vet and make sure her eyes are ok, tell your groomer about the problem and have them cut her top knot a bit shorter, or you can have it done so it doesn't have to be tied up at all like i do with male shih-tzus. at any rate, if you put the band in so tight that it wont come out the fur there will matt horribly. even groomers put the bow in kinda loose so that it will come out on its own after a few days.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and i

shure if its her or her mouth she does stink and she also has rotting teeth... shes 6 years over weight a little and we move and she was stressed and losing her hair witch now has grown back and she refuses to eat dry food but she has diarriah constantly and this has been for a couple of weeks and persist. she sometimes is smart and goes on the paper..but she has gone on the bed once but shes got short legs and she was alone.

what can i do to fix the stank and my dog.

thanks

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

She needs to go back on dry food...the wet stuff is giving her a runny butt! Take her to the vet to have her teeth cleaned and to get any bad ones extracted...that's probably why she refuses dry food (it hurts). And rotten teeth in a dog stink like something has died!

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

She most definitely shouldn't have rotting teeth at age 6. That can cause her to have a major infection throughout the body. Take her to the vet to see what can be done.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

Well, your dog is either sick with some infection, or perhaps she is allergic to her food. It sounds like she needs to go to the vet.

You need to brush a dog's teeth and get them cleaned to keep her gums and teeth healthy. A dog with rotting teeth is a stinky, sick dog. This could be her main problem.

I suggest you take her to the vet. She needs care.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

isn't it spelled like dachshund? Is that the same kinda dog? If she had jumped off the bed she could have broken her back. They should be watched when up on a couch or bed and helped down.

You need to take her to the vet. 6 isnt that old and if her teeth are rotting there is a problem and she hasnt been properly cared for.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

You need to take your dog to the vet today. I mean it. Today. Call your vet now and get an appointment for a physical there is something wrong with your dog. Call you vet NOW.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

She may have an ear infection, need anal glands expressed, etc.

The best thing is to get her to a vet and checked out

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

If she has Rotten teeth, you can bet that her breath is bad.

If she goes outside she is probably rolling in whatever she can find that stinks, it is a natural instinct( Dead stuff, old poop, garbage ETC...)

As far as the food. you need to take her to a vet and get her teeth checked.

there is a brand of hard food that is soft that is excellent food, its called Bill Jack I believe that's the name(you can find out more about it by emailing: parrotsandpaws@yahoo.com.

Whatever you get her on you would do her and you best by staying on the same kind of food.

Yes we have a dog named maggy she is a dotson shes fat and she always stinks like poop or fish and im not shu?

I also have a wiener dog and wen we got him he wouldn't eat dry food, sometimes he would go days without food, he only wanted house food. One day I took him to petco to ask what could I give him because I got worry that he wouldn't eat, and they suggested a brand name Natural Balance, he loves turkey and lamb, he wasn't crazy about beef or chicken. Dachshund dogs don't need to be fed much, maybe a slice in the morning and another in the evening. I notice wen I gave him house food he would get diarrhea and would stink like s***. With this dog food he doesn't stink and wen he poops it's easy to clean up. The food comes in dry or in a sausage type of roll. My dog really loves it. Also, it's not good if they are overweight because they develop back problems so I was told by the vet wen I took him to get his shots. Good Luck.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

I have a maltese dog who is three. She is adorable and perfect in every way except barking. My Mom is a hair away from giving her away. We've tried the muzzle, the spray, the crate, and picking her up to yell at her. Please help me. Any suggestions appreciated!! Thanks!

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

It is never too late to take your dog to a dog training class!

But try these: (keep in mind that your dog barks for a reason and you can say "yes, there is a strange car out front, or a school bus across the street....then say "no more!")

1. fill a soda pop can with 13 pennies (that is your dogs unlucky number!) Then every time your dog does not stop barking when you command them to stop, shake the can and say "quiet!" or "no more barking!" YOU have to be firm, but calm-mean what you say!

2. You can spray your dog every time she does not stop barking.

3. The one that worked for my dog is this one. Every time your dog barks after the warning, get in their face-holding their collar if necessary (but never grab them by the collar. Hold their head if they want to run from you) to make them look at you and say "no!" or whatever reprimand you are comfortable with. You have to be committed to doing it every single time they do this unwanted behavior and be consistent! It took me three days to train my dog this way and I put up with it for 4 years prior to that! Peaceful house now!

REMEMBER to praise your dog when they do stop barking!

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

You can get shock collars at Petsmart, but I would be very wary of using one on a toy dog. Why don't you give a local trainer a call and see what can be done?

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

Shock collars burn the dogs neck. Please do not use a shock collar. See a dog trainer.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

First of all, the yelling is extremely counterproductive. Your dog hears your yelling as barking, which only encourages her to bark more. Stop yelling, and stop giving her attention when she barks. That's probably why she's doing it; she has learned that barking is a surefire way to get your attention. It's also possible she's barking because she thinks she's the alpha and needs to 'drive away' anything that seems to be impinging on 'the pack's territory'.

It sounds to me like a behavior class is in order. But this is a very handleable situation. There is no reason at all to give the dog away.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

I had this problem with a dog we had once. A trainer told us to fill an empty soda can with pennies and tape the top up. When the dog starts barking, throw the can near her, not at her, to startle her. It worked well for us. She finally realized if she barked that crazy noise happened and frightened her. Good luck!

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

tell your dog to say enough, quit it, anything but the word no because no gives a negative message to the dog

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

try to teach a quiet command. interrupt the barking with a loud noise (or other aversive) and when she stops barking to investigate, praise and say "quiet". do this each time she barks and each time, wait a little longer (1 second, then 2, etc.) before praising and rewarding her. then, put her on a variable reinforcement schedule (sometimes she gets a treat, sometimes not) so that she never knows when to expect that reward.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

What does the dog bark at? That's very important. Is she barking at something that could seem scary to a dog? If so, she needs to be desensitized to it by being exposed to it in a safe environment. If she barks at everyday things or barks to get your attention, don't give her attention until she stops. Even yelling or pushing it away can be rewarding to a dog.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

i have the same problem with my 2 dogs

i have given up on trying to make them stop, they have wills of their own so no matter what i do they wont

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

Introduction

Barking can be an extremely frustrating behavior that our dogs exhibit. It can also get you in some hot water with your neighbors if your dog is constantly barking. In this article you'll learn some quick and easy ways to stop your dog from barking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need

Breath Spray

Treats

Citronella Collar

Steps

1Step OneTeaching your dog the word quiet has to be done with a consequence. If your dog is barking and you say, "Quiet," but don't follow it up with a consequence your dog will keep barking.

2Step TwoUse breath spray. When your dog barks say, "Quiet," in a firm voice and then immediately give your dog a quick squirt of breath spray in your dog's mouth. Most dogs do not like the taste, smell or sound of the breath spray. Your dog will associate the word "Quiet" with the negative consequence of the breath spray. Done repeatedly your dog will learn the word "Quiet."

3Step ThreeWhen you can say, "Quiet," and your dog stops barking without you spraying your dog, you can start to reward your dog. If your dog starts barking and you say, "Quiet," and your dog stops, quickly say, "Good quiet," and give your dog a treat. Your dog now understands the command "quiet".

4Step FourAnother effective way to stop your dog from barking is a citronella collar. It is a very gentle way to prevent barking without using electronics or harsh methods.

Tips %26amp; Warnings

A great time to teach your dog to stop barking is when someone is coming to visit. Most dogs bark when someone knocks on the door.

Have your friends and family help.

Reward your dog when they stop barking on command.

Don't train when you are angry, tired or frustrated.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

Sure, there are loads of things you can try! Put your dog on a leash and get someone to knock on the door or approach your son. When he goes to bark tug on the leash and say SHHHH. Make him sit and be quiet. Do this EVERY time and he'll start to get the message. The other option is to have a spray bottle of water. When he barks say "No bark!!" and give him a quick spray. Eventually he'll learn what "no bark" means. Don't spray him when he's right near your son though, you want him to continue to love Jayden! Loads of pats and treats when Jayden is around.

You could also look into getting a remote control thingie that emits a high frequency signal dogs don't like (one is called the "Dazer"). You give it a quick burst when you say NO and he'll learn what no means. Some people shake a can with marbles when they say NO.

Sounds like a lovely dog, but I know how annoying the barking can get! Our two rescues are very protective of us and used to bark when anyone came near us.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

when your dog barks, tell her thank you and pet her. she is letting you know she hears something outside and is doing her job, maltese dogs [as well as others breeds] believe it is their job to protect you and the home. i always praise her for doing her job, she then understands that i am aware of what she hears and she will get used to stopping the barking when she gets her praise. do not punish her when she barks, the praise will cure the barking...

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

EXERCISE her.

walk her daily, for at least 45 minutes.

master the walk, and drain her energy with walks,

take obedience classes, so you will understand her needs and how to handle her.

walking is essential in allowing her to drain her frustrations and aggressions.

sometimes barking is a way for dogs to do this, if they have no outlets. she may also be insecure, and nervous. exercising her will help this, and giving her rules, boundaries and limitations. all things dogs needs, along with exercise, discipline and affection, given in that order.

visit cesar milan's website for more help.

I highly suggest obedience classes and exercise. It sometimes makes all the difference.

if you are going to have a dog, please understand they need attention, and understanding, and your world will be a happier place... trust me!

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

What is the dog barking at? Family in the house, noises she hears outside, other pets in the household? You need to give a little more detail about what gets her going. I agree with not trying the shock collar, especially on a toy breed. One remedy you might want to try is to put the dog on a leash "full-time" to train her while someone is home. Tie the dog to you, make her go everywhere you go. When she starts to bark give her a sharp "NO BARK!" and snap back on the leash getting her attention. If she stops barking tell her she is a "good girl" give her a small treat, some praising by petting or playing. If she does not stop repeat "NO BARK!" and snap back on the leash. Eventually she will get the idea. But when she does what you want and she stops you need to be sure that you make it worth her while, get down on the floor and play with her, rub her belly, treats, whatever it is she likes. I prefer the playing or petting over food, she might just learn that barking gets her her favorite snack. Also seek out a trainer for some tips, good luck.

How do I get my dog to stop barking!?

My dog used to bark. Instead of a crate try a dog pen. They have more room to run and play. Hopes it helps =]

What is the best dog for me??

What is the best dog for me??

Yorkie

What is the best dog for me??

Dachshund

What is the best dog for me??

You want a Maltese! Or a Shih Tzu. Both are small, non-shedding, sweet indoor pets. Both have long hair that can be cut into a puppy cut when desired. The Maltese is 4-6 lbs, the Shih Tzu is about 10-12 lbs. If you have kids, the Shih Tzu is probably a better fit, but both are great dogs! Look them up on www.dogbreedinfo.com

What is the best dog for me??

schnoodle, yorkie, pomeranian ,Poodle (toy),maltese, bichon, papion, mix

just to name a few

What is the best dog for me??

pomeranian but they she or yorkie

What is the best dog for me??

Maltese, Havanese, Bichon Frise... They are all part of the same family, but tend to be very smart/stubborn dogs and can be tough to train, BUT they have minimal shedding and will be incredibly loyal. They do require consistent grooming though.

What is the best dog for me??

miniature Dachshund

What is the best dog for me??

Sounds to me like you are looking for a cat rather than a dog...

You might enjoy taking this little quiz for finding your best dog match. At the end there are rankings for best breed matches and breed information.

What is the best dog for me??

a toy poodle sounds like it would suit you.

What is the best dog for me??

it sounds like you like the idea of a dog, but a dog doesn't sound like it would fit into your lifestyle. No matter what breed of dog you get it will need attention, %26amp; training. Training takes a lot of time, especially at first. you may want to wait until your schedule lightens up and you have more time to devote to the animal - trust me I learned the hard way!

What is the best dog for me??

I KNOW I KNOW a stuffed dog... 30 minutes of walking... that's all?

What is the best dog for me??

cavalier king charles spaniel-expensive, but TOTALLY worth it!!!!

i agree with u about the chihuaua thing. not fr me

What is the best dog for me??

I think you should get a maltese. They have long hair but don't shed much at all. I almost never see dog hair unless I'm brushing and they're good for allergy sufferers. I have one and he is very affectionate. While I'm typing this, he is resting his head on one hand and licking another. I don't have to walk him much but he is good indoors. At 9 pounds he is heavier than most maltese dogs but he still fits in dog clothes and little dog carriers. He is smart and easy to train. He knows how to sit, settle, stay, dance, speak, shake hands,go to his room, ring a doorbell when he wants to go out and he is learning to put his toys in his toy box.

Its hard to say because I don't know your exact situation, but it sounds like this is the right dog for you. The best bet is to go to a dog selector website. Here are some I used when I was looking for the right dog breed for me.

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime

Hi, my husband and I adopted a puppy when my daughter was close to a year old. He was a male australian sheperd/sheltie mix and at the time we did know they were lying about the mom being a sheltie(she resembled a lg. tan rat with very little hair anywhere on her body) they said they got her from an aussie breeder who bred her to aussies to make small versions and that they beat her there and that was why she was so cowardly? hid in a corner of the barn the whole time we were there. we originally had went to look at their purebred aussies but they were terrified of people so we decided nay on them but this sweet not terribly cute but wonderfully outgoing puppy came up to us and climbed in my lap and snuggled. Needless to say Philo became a well loved member of the family. we went on walks every night, spent the weekends hiking, boating etc and when 2 weeks later we found out the birth control didnt work(again folks I thought the shot was 100 percent but oh well) we were ok with it

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

Wow. I am so sorry this happened to you and your family. What great perseverance you have. I don't know what I would do in a situation like that. Thank God your children are safe, and you absolutely did the right thing. He was a very unhappy dog. You certainly got my attention with your mention of Sophie. I have a calm and quiet aussie mix named Sophie who hates having puppies in the house. She hides behind me until they are gone. In my experience, I have found that introducing puppies to a household is actually more difficult than people think. You already have a very traumatized dog on your hands, and puppies are so energetic and innocent they often don't have any sensitivity toward other dogs. Have you considered the possibility of adopting an older dog? Maybe a few years older than Sophie? You would certainly have better luck with judging personality and temperament, and an adult dog could have a calming effect on your poor dog. The training classes are a great idea-both for socialization, and to give her a sense of normalness in her life. Dogs do like structure. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor and think that Sophie has the very best family she could ever want.

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

I'm glad you had your male dog put down. He was a danger to everything around him and obviously was not enjoying his life.

I imagine your dog Sophie is afraid of the other dogs because the only other dog she ever knew had a habit of attacking her and hurting her. Since she is young I expect she will improve as she has more positive experiences. Perhaps you could pick out some particularly gentle dog in the class and arrange to have that dog next to Sophie, as a nonthreatening buddy.

You might look into getting some private training lessons for Sophie to help her self-confidence. Dogs of her breed like to learn, enjoy pleasing their owners, and get self-confidence from knowing they know how to do things.

I'm not sure whether getting a companion for her would be a good idea. I'll leave that to dog experts.

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

OK you really had me going on your last post. Geeze I think this is the longest post I've ever seen here.

Puppy classes are your first step. That's a great thing. But also take her every where with you and the kids. Car rides and on walks and just to the park where she can see and meet all kinds of people.

When my boys where pups I took them everywhere I went and made a point of doing so. I still take them for walks on Main St. so they can still meet young and old a like. I've met some wonderful people and so have my dogs.

Don't be shy about taking her with you it the very best thing you can do for her and you.

I'd hold off on a new pup until she is better socialized.

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

If you live in a suburban or urban area, you probably have dog parks around. Check online to see. As long as your dog is not in heat, she is ok to go to most, even though she's not spayed. Take her for lots of walks, introduce her to all the other dogs you meet, if their owners allow it. Take her to the pet store often, most allow dogs as long as they are leashed. She can start getting used to other dogs there. Talk to the trainer at the store, or call a trainer and see what they suggest. The second dog is a purebred Aussie, correct? Well, you might want to look online for local aussie clubs or groups. They will have some good ideas to share with you. Good luck with her, and I'm sorry to hear that Philo had to be put down.

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

Honestly... Do you mind if I ask where you live that the "behaviorists" turned you down? I think your dog was totally lacking in training, and was the ALPHA of the house...

For your other dog- the best thing you can do is work with a trainer who knows about confidence building in a dog.

I know a great trainer in the DC/MD area...

Don't know where you are, but send me a message if you live in that area. People drove hours from VA and PA to go see him... He's the best!

Good luck

Repost dog mental disorder attacked children, what to do with 2nd dog for socialization and playtime?

Hello there, Please do not be sorry for telling your story, in fact it is very important and interesting to learn about what happened. I am sorry to hear about all the trouble you went through.

Me and my puppy started puppy classes, we are at our third series of six sessions and it is simply wonderful. It has helped me better handle and understand my dog. The dog trainer is using a holistic method and it is wonderful.

I would suggest to wait to get another puppy. You should attend the puppy class first. Believe me you and your dog will have "homework" to do at home, every day, you will have your hands full with your children too. It is a good sign that she is starting to get out of her shell. In my class there is a Doberman that was not socialized and she is scared of everything and it has helped her tremendously.

Do you watch the "Dog Whisperer"? He gives good explanation and basics, being the dog needs to feel that you are his pack leader and that you are in charge. If you are not firm he will do whatever he wants if he does not have boundaries. But the puppy class takes care of that aspect.

Good luck and keep us posted. I hope everything will go well for you, your family and your four-legged kid.

Should I get my dog groomed?

I get my pom groomed every 2 months.I have had my other dog a pom x jack russell for about a year and I've never gotten her groomed. She looks like a JRT but has the tail and orange color of a pom.She dosen't have long hair.I'm not sure if I should get her groomed aswell.

Should I get my dog groomed?

Longer haired dogs need to go to the groomers, but you can easily do the maintainence on your terrier.

Should I get my dog groomed?

if you have the money then it would be nice for the other dog but if she has short hair you can do it yourself.

Should I get my dog groomed?

I think it depends on whether you can imagine what your dog will looked like after its groomed and whether you would like it. I dont think its really necessary to have your dog groomed but have the essentials like their nails clipping etc.

Should I get my dog groomed?

You could if you want - they just wouldn't have to cut the hair or anything. They could give a bath, brush teeth, trim nails, etc. Personally, I wouldn't pay to have all that done since I can do it myself.

Should I get my dog groomed?

Of course! Every gal enjoys pampering!

Should I get my dog groomed?

Heyah if one dog is getting special treatment by getting groomed the other one should aswell

its only fai :P:PThey Might even give you a discount if you have two dogs lool

Hope I Helped

Goood Luck

Merry Xmas =]=]=]

Should I get my dog groomed?

my dogs a sheep dog and i groom him ever few months myself but he just gets messy again in 5 minutes

Should I get my dog groomed?

Sorry, I'm going to be no help, but I was just passing through and just had to comment on how beautiful your x dog sounds. I have a JRT myself.

Merry Christmas! [:

Should I get my dog groomed?

Nah, I don't think it's necessary. As long as you're brushing her every now and then and she gets a bath here and there (plus nails clipped etc) she'll be fine. Necessary grooming is more for dogs with long hair and dogs that don't shed. Most dogs don't LOVE getting groomed, they tolerate it. So she's not missing out on anything. Sounds like a gorgeous dog!

Should I get my dog groomed?

why not every dog enjoys pampering

Should I get my dog groomed?

It's expensive to have 2 dogs groomed, I do it. If you can get by with just getting the nails clipped why wouldn't you? You can bath her at home periodically if she needs it.

Should I get my dog groomed?

I would do it - my pom gets groomed every 4-6 weeks. i think all dogs like a good bath. if they go together they can have a "Spa" day together.

Should I get my dog groomed?

well you dont HAVE to, but if you have extra money, why not?

Should I get my dog groomed?

i think you should comb it everyday it gets rid of fleas.

Should I get my dog groomed?

Hi, as a professional groomer..

some dogs don't require "grooming". All dogs can use a bath, nails clipped, brushed and such but not all need a haircut.

Professional groomers have the equpiment to give a nice bath (maybe condition), clip nails, brush out loose hair and such.

It would be nice for you dog every few months but it doesn't sound like you have to.

I have a small terrier that if I don't feel like bringing her to work I just throw her in the bathtub with soem good doggie shampoo and she is done.

BTW: groomers dont usually give "multi-dog discounts" as someone else said..it's twice the work for them :)

How can I keep my house dust free ?

Hi, I am allergic to Dust in the house. How can I keep my house dust free? I live with two short hair dogs, I have no carpet flooring anywhere, but tile and laminate wood. I also have 3 iRobot that suck up pretty much everything from dirt to smaller particle without spitting anything out. But I guess when I handle the machine I get some reaction. I do not wish to leave the dogs out side, they are both indoor dogs and are companion for me.

How can I keep my house dust free ?

I am looking into an Oric air cleaner right now. The sales rep stated to cleaner air and reduced dust in house. The cost is $400. Really considering buying this one.

Going to have to decide on the love of your pets or your ability to breathe.

How can I keep my house dust free ?

When you get an answer post it for the rest of us. You could make alot of us very happy by finding the answer to your question.

How can I keep my house dust free ?

I don't think it is possible. Try using one of those strap on filters around your mouth/nose when you empty the machine. Dust is a fact of life.

A Dust free ??

A Dust free ??

How can I reduce my exposure to house dust?

1. It is best for the dust sensitive person to not do the vacuuming or dusting. If you must do these tasks, wear a mask, and use a vacuum cleaner with a high efficiency filter to reduce your exposure.

2. There are electrostatically charged cleaning cloths and mops which attract and hold the dust to keep it from becoming airborne. Using a damp mop on floors and walls can reduce dust levels. Don't forget to clean bed springs, window sills, under furniture, Venetian blinds, and other dust catchers with a damp cloth.

3. Remove carpets and as many dust producing and dust catching items from your home as possible. Select closed book cases and curio cabinets instead of open shelves. Books and magazines are dust catchers. Tile, linoleum, or hardwood floors are much better for the allergic patient than carpets.

4. Mattresses, box springs, and pillows should be encased with impermeable, zippered covers. New fabrics are now available that are breathable to allow water vapor to pass through for added comfort.

5. Keep clothing in drawers, and closet doors closed.

6. Vacuum frequently with a machine equipped with a High Efficiency Air Filter. Nilfisk, Fantom, Miele, and Euroclean are brands with HEPA filters.

7. A high performance filter in the central air system can remove 90%+ of the dust from the air as it operates. These washable filters should not contain any materials with glue on them. Check with the manufacturer before making a purchase.

8. Room air purifiers are helpful in controlling dust especially in your bedroom.

9. Have the duct system cleaned and checked for leaks.

10. Use wooden, glass, or plastic furniture where possible rather than upholstered items. Antiques often contain high amounts of dust.

11. Use washable curtains or window shades instead of Venetian blinds and heavy draperies.

12. Select easily cleaned decorations instead of silk or dried flower arrangements, straw, wicker, or fabric wall coverings.

Dog experts....My yorkie-chihuahua mix puppy......?

Here is my puppy....

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.p...

Well, She has this wirey hair on her chest and sides and I wanted to know if she would eventually get this all over? I think it is quirky and adorable...her mother was the same mix and the breeder told me she didnt get the hair all over until she was 6 mo....BUT I didn't see her mother at all (only dad) so I am not sure what exactly she meant by all over. But if any one knows the breed or anything about this question please let me know! Thanks

Dog experts....My yorkie-chihuahua mix puppy......?

Because it's a mix, there is no way to predict how it will turn out.

Dog experts....My yorkie-chihuahua mix puppy......?

it's useless to ask questions about mixed breeds on here, the main contributors here are Doggy racists and are out raged when anyone comes on with a mixed dog question.

Your dog is absolutely adorable as is, whether or not it gets wire hair all over won't be seen until it has reached adulthood, it can take a lot of time for your dog to get all it's fur in, but even if it doesn't...it's sooo darn cute as is.

Dog experts....My yorkie-chihuahua mix puppy......?

you certainly scammed!!! DO NOT USE the term BREEDER... I hope you did NOT pay for this mix...

How could you get a pup and not see the mother%26gt;?? no one knows what your mix will look like...

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

My little dog looks like she has hives only on her back. She is pregnant and due in about 3 weeks, so I can't give her benadryl as I have read some people have done. She is a chi..... mix. I noticed this slightly about a week ago. She was even at the vet last week for a checkup, but it was so slight at that time, I forgot to ask and the vet didn't notice either. Today, it looks a little worse. I bathed her today with medicated shampoo and that did not help or make worse. She doesn't act sick in the slightest, but it looks kind of weird. She also is not scratching that I have noticed. Her hair just stands up in little spots all over her back from her neck to almost her tail and I can feel little raised bumps, but can't see any. She is a reddish/brown color. Does anyone know what else this could be and can it hurt her puppies?

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

no but even thinking about it makes me worry

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

I think it's called mange. Or it could be an allergic reaction. See the vet, silly!!!

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

Call your vet. Most vets will consult over the phone at no charge for their patients. The vet may have some suggestions, or may want her to be seen. It's probably harmless, but call your vet just to be safe.

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

Sounds like an allergic reaction. I would definitely take her back to the vet specially since she is pregnant.

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

I had a boxer that done the same thing. However, he was pregnant:0)

They gave him benadryl and a steroid injection. It would be best to just call the vet and see what your options are. It probably won't hurt the pups if it's just an allergic reaction. Maybe she ate something or laid in something? Could have gotten a spider bite. Just keep an eye on her and give your vet a call. Good luck.

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

It could be hives, as this is a normal part of an allergic reaction. It could also be from fleas. Flea bites can be a lot like what you described......the raised bumps and little spots. It may also be something else, but with out seeing the spots and not beinga vet, I couldn't tell you for sure. Being a registered vet tech, I would definatly keep an eye on it and if it persists or you are concerned about it, you should take her into the vet. If it's an allergic reaction or from fleas, no it will not hurt the puppies. It may be nothing to worry about, but it's better to be safe than sorry later.

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

My dog actually had some allergy reaction to spider bites. She had numerous hives all over her body. The vet injected her with some anti allergy medicine. Take your dog back to your vet.

Has anyone had a dog with hives?

Hi,

I am a Dhaxem animal healer and believe that I can cure your pregnant doggy. She is deficient in certain nutrients and you can help her easily by adding the following nutrients to her diet. What she needs is this:

Vitamin B1 (Solgar would be best) 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days, then reduce to twice a day for another 20 days

A good quality Multivitamin and mineral formula, like Solgar VM75, a quarter every other day for 10 days

Your dog could also do with a little change in the diet: She would greatly benefit if she was given slightly cooked trout twice a week, in place of her usual diet.

I am sure this would help and you would notice a difference in about a week. It would also be god for the pups. Best wishes,

And with my love to your doggy.

Dog rash and losing fur?

ok, so my doggy (pekingese) has recently (about 2-3 days ago) started shedding... or at least I thought it was shedding. She hasn't shed in about a year so I don't know if this has anything to do with it. But she's losing large clumps of hair. You can't really tell because she has so much fur... but when i get home there are a lot on clumps of hair on the ground. I'm also a bit worried because she's developed a sort or rash with bumps on her lower abdomen and around that area. We took her to the vet yesterday and she only gave her allegry medicine... I'm thinking about taking her to a different vet because it doesn't seem to be getting better... only worse and I'm worrired.

does anyone know what this could be?

Dog rash and losing fur?

awwww//////////

try changing the dog food, if its not that,

a good veternaraian will give u the option to see what she is allergic to........but that is costly about $100 or more

you can take her to another different vet if you want.

it really could be the dog food,

good luck.

keep us posted.

Dog rash and losing fur?

It sounds like Mange. It's pretty common. Just ask a vet or there might even be over the counter stuff you can find at any pet store.

Dog rash and losing fur?

TAKE HER TO A VET!!!

She may have mange, or she may be just stressed out. OR on an unhealthy diet. That can casue hair loss in dogs.

But the rash?? Hmm im thinking possibly Mange. Definetly take her to the vet and she will be treated.

My dog had this and it turned out to be a bacterial infection.

Dog rash and losing fur?

If nothing has changed in your doggy's life you might think of investigating the food you feed her.

Your doggy might have developed an allergy to the food she's been eating recently.

Did you change the kind of food you feed her. Since when? Ia week or two? There could be some connection with the rash she suffers from?

Dog rash and losing fur?

may be nerves

Dog rash and losing fur?

It could be mange mites and the Vet should have done a test to out rule it. Did the Vet tell you what kind of allergies he is suspecting? Did the Vet do a blood test? Maybe the medication needs a couple of days to kick in. But you need to know, what causes the allergies. Have you changed her diet lately? I feed my animals Canidae and Blue Buffalo dry foods, because it doesn't have any fillers in them and it is a holistic pet food.

Dog rash and losing fur?

does she have a bad odor from these spots? i gave my dog some OTC fish oil pills, after i took my dog to 4 different vets no one could help me and the pills i started on my own after 2 weeks the fur grew back and the fur was back to normal

Dog rash and losing fur?

It possible that it is mange, the earlier that it is treated the more easier it is to get rid of, but if its just a common rash just go get some A %26amp; D diaper rash ointment to help take car of the rash

best to see a vet to identify the problem

Dog rash and losing fur?

Didn't say what age your Peke was. During 1st yr. old dogs usually don't shed that much the 1st time,... it may be that she's just shedding now (had a Husky which shedded profusely in clumps), a good brushing and see if any further clumps comes out.

The rash on belly could be something simple, like heat rash or rubbing on the rug to alleviate the uncomfortableness of the heat of her heavy fur.. I doubt it's mange.

Could also be eczema (had a Shitz Tzu) with it, but her skin stunk awfully and was more flakey yet wet,... not rash.

Hope this helps

Dog rash and losing fur?

If your vet thinks it is an allergy whu dont you get a leaflet form Dorwest Herbs they do a homeopathic remedy for skin conditions which usually helps.Dorwest HERBS website for further info.

Dog rash and losing fur?

Sounds to me like flea bite dermatitis. I would take the pet to your vet as soon as you can. Also, she may have gotten into an anthill or something? I wouldn't delay with the vet visit.

Dog rash and losing fur?

Take her to another vet. If you're unsure, then go until you are sure. :)

Dog rash and losing fur?

goto a vet no one here can tell you for sure

Dog/tick/removal???

I have a silky terrier (think a yorkie but slightly larger) and his hair was very matted...my fault, i know...anyways i shaved a good amount of his hair off today and noticed what appears to be a tick on the top of his head-ALMOST near his eye...it's gotten considerely larger (i noticed a little bump there a while back but didn't think much of it)

My question is...

How do you sucessfully remove a tick? Should I even attempt? Do those flea/TICK baths really make a difference? Or do you recommend a trip to the vet?

Dog/tick/removal???

Yes remove the tick. Take a pair of sterile tweezers. Grip the tick by the head as close to the skin as your can. Pull it out with a good yank. check to make sure you got all of the tick out. Any pieces of the head left in the skin will cause an infection. Keep the tick and make your dog a vet appointment. The vet can run a test to see if the tick was a carrier for Lyme. If it was your dog will need to be tested. Lyme disease is treated in dogs with a 2 week course of pills. It really is essential that your dog get looked at a.s.a.p. because if your dog has Lyme you want it treated before it causes any problems.

P.S. Do not try to suffucate the tick with vasiline or any other substance. Ticks do not breathe often enough for this method to work.

The flea part of the shampoo works but not the tick. If you do use flea shampoo get the one with the growth regulator in it. This will kill fleas of every age and kill the eggs.

Dog/tick/removal???

So, can i really remove the tick by myself? You say be careful about removing the tick because the head might be left embedded on the dog's skin but IA Dog Lady says it's ok if the head gets left behind, because the skin of the dog will eventually take care of it, either ejecting it or absorbing it. Report It

Dog/tick/removal???

You can remove the tick by yourself. Be careful not to squeeze the tick cause that's gonna release more of its toxin. When I knew that my dog had ticks, I read lots of references and most say it's fine if the head wasn't totally removed. There are many sites teaching tick prevention. Report It

Dog/tick/removal???

is a tick scoop better than a tweezer? referred by petcyclopedia at pet shed. says it takes the mouth parts off too. Report It

Dog/tick/removal???

Just get some tweezers or just put on a glove, and just grad it off,

But really take her to the vet, because if you just yank it off it might leave a piece of the tick inside your dog and it wake her eye swollen!

Dog/tick/removal???

You can use a pair of tweezers to remove the ticks from your dog. I usually use a glass jar filled with rubbing alcohol and dispose the bodies into the jar, regardless of the ticks are alive or dead. After certain period of time, you can dispose the rubbing alcohol into the toilet and flush it off. The most important thing is make sure your dog is on monthly applications such as Frontline or Advantix. You don't really need to use flea/tick shampoos. Good luck.

Dog/tick/removal???

According to the book "The First Aid Companion for Dogs and Cats" By Amy D Shojai:

Do not use your fingers to remove the tick. Use a blunt tipped tweezers or hemostat. Wear disposible medical gloves and be very careful not to crush the tick's body as you remove it. ( Often your fingers have tiny cuts or abrasions that you can't see and if you crucsh the tick's body some of the infected tick parts could transmit diseases to you)

Grasp the body very close to the pets skin and the ticks mouth parts and pull it straight out, slowly and gently, in the opposite direction from the mouth end. That will allow the mouthparts to slide back out most easily instead of dragging the buried head through your pet's flesh. The tick will almost always come away with a tiny pinch of the skin. Don't worry if the head comes off and stays buried in the flesh that almost never happens, but if it does, it won't cause problems for most pets. The pet's body will either absorb the material or eject it in a few days.

Or you could always use clear nail polish to coat the tick with and wait for it to back out because it can't breathe. You have to coat it really heavy though. And I don't know if I'd want to do this around your dogs eye.

Dog/tick/removal???

remove the tick with hemostats or blunt end tweezers. Use frontline or advantix to control the ticks and fleas. The baths only work for the immediate time and no prevention.

Dog/tick/removal???

Before you take any advise to use tweezers...

It is possible that the tick is not far in your dogs skin , although being in your dogs skin for so long this might not be the case.

You must be extremely careful because if you leave any part of the tick in your dogs skin they can get severely ill and even die. They can get Lyme disease.

If the Tick is getting larger it is because it is sucking your dogs blood and skin.

when I was young I lived in Texas where Tick were common.

The old fashioned way is to take a match (fire) hold the heat as close to the tick as possible, their natural instinct is to back out.

You should really take your dog to the Vet to make sure infection hasn't already started.

Dog/tick/removal???

No, those flea/tick baths do NOT work. They might wash fleas off, but they don't prevent them so fleas will be back before the day is out. And they do absolutely nothing for ticks.

You don't have to actually take the dog to a vet unless you want them to remove the tick for you - you can get Frontline without having to take the dog in. This kills and prevent fleas and ticks - if you use the spot-on the tick will fall off within 24 hours, if you use the spray directly on the tick it will plop off within a couple of hours.

You could remove the tick if you want - just make sure you twist as you pull, this is how to avoid leaving the mouth parts, not that leaving mouth parts in causes problems anywhere near as often as people think.
