For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

My chiuaua is 5 years old and she's not a very good dog. she doesnt like my husband and bites people all the time. I'm scared for my future children. I want to train her but i feel like is too late for her. she loves me and only me, and i dont want that, i want her to get along with everyone. She is a pain sometimes but i love her alot and she's the longest living dog i have ever had. I dont want to put her to sleep but it will torture me more if i took her to a shelter because she will suffer. Trust me i know, i 've gone away on trips for weeks and i come back and her hair fell out and she was not eating. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

Putting your dog to sleep because she is overly devoted to you and freaks out when you are gone is not a sensible option.

If you want to keep the dog:

* Get a dog trainer to help you with the separation anxiety and the biting. Not just any trainer from the local pet store... call your local SPCA and get a referral to an experienced trainer, or talk to your vet about a veterinary behaviorist. Separation anxiety is a very complex problem that should be dealt with by professionals.

If you do not want to keep the dog, (which if you are considering putting her to sleep, you are probably leaning toward not keeping her...):

* call your local SPCA. SPCAs are no-kill shelters. They are very well versed in handling difficult dogs with problems. They can rehabilitate her and find her a new home.

*Or, talk to your vet or SPCA about finding a chihuahua rescue in your area. They will also work with her and find her a new home.

You say you want to train her but you fear it is too late... it is NOT too late. She is only five, and she can be taught that there are better ways to behave than to bite. Also, if you give her up to the SPCA or a rescue, she WILL survive. She will probably go through a couple bad weeks of nervousness and not eating, but she will bounce back. And she will live on in a new home.

Give her to a chi rescue if you are not willing to take the time to train her or fix her separation anxiety.

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

it's never too late to train a dog. this case may need a professional trainer. there isn't any reason to put her to sleep. Once she is trained, you and your dog should be happy. ^_^

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

Thats really sad because her behaviour problems are not her fault - they are YOURS!!! Why did you mollycoddle her to the point of no return when she was a cute little baby? Why did you insist on carrying her around everywhere with you? Why didn't you leave her with your husband when you went out for the day or for a few hours so that they could bond? Why have you kept her away from people and other dogs? Why haven't you ever taken the time to train her either by your self or with proffessional help? If the thought of her being without you in a shelter is killing you - imagine how you'd feel if you killed her for no reason other than selfishness? Grow up, allow your dog to grow up and get a trainer in to change her behaviour!

is never late to train adog. you shold give her half an hour

quality time to play with you and your husband.

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

Only put a dog to sleep when he/she has a medical problem that cannot be cured..and ONLY then. Do not put this dog down. I would take it to a no-kill rescue, there are plenty all over. It is NEVER to late for a dog to be rehabilitated...never. You can do it it just takes a lot of work on your part...a lot of work and you have to change the way you look at your dog. So...either seek professional help w/ training the dog or take it to a rescue. DON"T PUT IT DOWN....freaking email me if you're in California and I'll come pick him up myself...poor dog...you want to put it down because you can't control him/her?

Your dog is only 5 years old and she is the longest living dog you've ever had????????

Seriously, it is probably best to give your dog to an adoption shelter, no-kill shelter, or another place that can responsibly care for your dog.

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

First of all you can train her it's just going to take some work. Take her away from some of the things that get her so attached to you, though I don't mean all the time, just enough to get her to stop being so clingy and if she bites you just swat her and tell her no, then shut her up in a room preferably empty if you get my meaning. Don't let anyone come into the room and if they do tell them to just ignore her, then after an hour you let her out, just make sure she has food and water in the room with her for the hour. If she does it again, back in the room. She'll get the idea. You can use this method for other things too. It worked for our dog.

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

You can't put her to sleep... not from the reasons you have state above.

I agree with the other answer, if you're going to get rid of her, send her to a rescue shelter.... she at least has a chance there. The pound she will more than likely be put to sleep.

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

You can't put her to sleep for that reason!!! Get her training or give her up for adoption if like you say you love her alot

For what reasons should i put my dog to sleep??

you know that saying " you can't teach old dogs new tricks" that's a lie! my dog is 5 1/2 years old and didn't know anything about obeying me, I thaught her how to: sit, stay, lay down, roll over, stop, and eat on her own.

its never to late, don't give your dog away
