Should I get my dog groomed?

I get my pom groomed every 2 months.I have had my other dog a pom x jack russell for about a year and I've never gotten her groomed.She looks like a JRT but has the tail and orange color of a pom.She dosen't have long hair.I'm not sure if I should get her groomed aswell.

Longer haired dogs need to go to the groomers, but you can easily do the maintainence on your terrier.

I think it depends on whether you can imagine what your dog will looked like after its groomed and whether you would like it. I dont think its really necessary to have your dog groomed but have the essentials like their nails clipping etc.

You could if you want - they just wouldn't have to cut the hair or anything. They could give a bath, brush teeth, trim nails, etc. Personally, I wouldn't pay to have all that done since I can do it myself.

my dogs a sheep dog and i groom him ever few months myself but he just gets messy again in 5 minutes

Nah, I don't think it's necessary. As long as you're brushing her every now and then and she gets a bath here and there (plus nails clipped etc) she'll be fine. Necessary grooming is more for dogs with long hair and dogs that don't shed. Most dogs don't LOVE getting groomed, they tolerate it. So she's not missing out on anything. Sounds like a gorgeous dog!

It's expensive to have 2 dogs groomed, I do it. If you can get by with just getting the nails clipped why wouldn't you? You can bath her at home periodically if she needs it.

I would do it - my pom gets groomed every 4-6 weeks. i think all dogs like a good bath. if they go together they can have a "Spa" day together.

Hi, as a professional groomer..

some dogs don't require "grooming". All dogs can use a bath, nails clipped, brushed and such but not all need a haircut.

Professional groomers have the equpiment to give a nice bath (maybe condition), clip nails, brush out loose hair and such.

It would be nice for you dog every few months but it doesn't sound like you have to.

I have a small terrier that if I don't feel like bringing her to work I just throw her in the bathtub with soem good doggie shampoo and she is done.

BTW: groomers dont usually give "multi-dog discounts" as someone else said..it's twice the work for them :)
