Dog rash and losing fur?

ok, so my doggy (pekingese) has recently (about 2-3 days ago) started shedding... or at least I thought it was shedding. She hasn't shed in about a year so I don't know if this has anything to do with it. But she's losing large clumps of hair. You can't really tell because she has so much fur... but when i get home there are a lot on clumps of hair on the ground. I'm also a bit worried because she's developed a sort or rash with bumps on her lower abdomen and around that area. We took her to the vet yesterday and she only gave her allegry medicine... I'm thinking about taking her to a different vet because it doesn't seem to be getting better... only worse and I'm worrired.

does anyone know what this could be?

try changing the dog food, if its not that,

a good veternaraian will give u the option to see what she is allergic to........but that is costly about $100 or more

you can take her to another different vet if you want.

It sounds like Mange. It's pretty common. Just ask a vet or there might even be over the counter stuff you can find at any pet store.

She may have mange, or she may be just stressed out. OR on an unhealthy diet. That can casue hair loss in dogs.

But the rash?? Hmm im thinking possibly Mange. Definetly take her to the vet and she will be treated.

My dog had this and it turned out to be a bacterial infection.

If nothing has changed in your doggy's life you might think of investigating the food you feed her.

Your doggy might have developed an allergy to the food she's been eating recently.

Did you change the kind of food you feed her. Since when? Ia week or two? There could be some connection with the rash she suffers from?

It could be mange mites and the Vet should have done a test to out rule it. Did the Vet tell you what kind of allergies he is suspecting? Did the Vet do a blood test? Maybe the medication needs a couple of days to kick in. But you need to know, what causes the allergies. Have you changed her diet lately? I feed my animals Canidae and Blue Buffalo dry foods, because it doesn't have any fillers in them and it is a holistic pet food.

does she have a bad odor from these spots? i gave my dog some OTC fish oil pills, after i took my dog to 4 different vets no one could help me and the pills i started on my own after 2 weeks the fur grew back and the fur was back to normal

It possible that it is mange, the earlier that it is treated the more easier it is to get rid of, but if its just a common rash just go get some A %26amp; D diaper rash ointment to help take car of the rash

Didn't say what age your Peke was. During 1st yr. old dogs usually don't shed that much the 1st time,... it may be that she's just shedding now (had a Husky which shedded profusely in clumps), a good brushing and see if any further clumps comes out.

The rash on belly could be something simple, like heat rash or rubbing on the rug to alleviate the uncomfortableness of the heat of her heavy fur.. I doubt it's mange.

Could also be eczema (had a Shitz Tzu) with it, but her skin stunk awfully and was more flakey yet wet,... not rash.

Sounds to me like flea bite dermatitis. I would take the pet to your vet as soon as you can. Also, she may have gotten into an anthill or something? I wouldn't delay with the vet visit.
