Get a labordoodle, they are big dogs that are bred not to shed, expensive though.

Here's an idea: Enjoy the dog you have now.

Skin/fur/hair problems are often related to diet, so if you are really concerned you may re-evaluate what you're feeding. I'd say stick with the dog you have now. It's a maltese and being around another large dog could possibly injure it.

Woops, i read it wrong. sorry

There aren't as many "non-shedding" (in other words less shedding) large breeds as there are small breeds. I'm thinking you want a pure bred:

-greyhound

-poodle

-any dog with hair and is single layered.

Your dad isn't allergic to dog hair, he's allergic to dander from the skin so it doesn't matter.

Maltese play nice with other small dogs... as they act like a big dog inside a small body. If you get a larger dog there is a chance that the big dog will hurt or kill it even if it is by accident, and that isnt a risk you should be willing to take.

I agree with some of the other posters, enjoy the dog you have now.

All dogs shed even if you don't see the hair they have to shed because it grow thicker in the winter and comes off in the summer so they are not that hot so you should just keep the one you have because a big dog will just shed more
