Can homemade food causes my dog to vomit?

I always make my dog homemade food...rice, chicken, egg, fish, sausages, bacon, bread, steak(occationally), vegetable soup, apple, banana... etc. I mean, what I eat he eats... I control his portion and I make sure it's low fat, but can homemade food be harmful to my baby? He eats dog food in a very small portion... compare to homemade food he eats only 1 meal of dog food per week. He eats three times a day... treats are once a day, exercise twice a day. He's in a good shape, not overweight, shiny coats, shiny eyes, happy in general. he just started vomiting with hair in it... that freaks me out!!! No, it's not poison... he's always inside when I'm not home. When he goes out, I'm there with him. He's NEVER been out of my sight outside the house, noone is allow to feed him except me. I know what not to feed him...garlic, onion, rasins, grapes, chocolate, candies, fatty food, fries, bones... I take it very seriously, I just don't want his condition to get worst.

Well if the dog is use to this diet then i doubt very seriously this is what it is, unless u are feeding ur dog hair then it is the hair that is making him throw up. He may of gotten ahold of human hair from on the floor or in your hair hrush, this will make a dog throw up as they cannot digest it.

U say u feed ur dog sausage, lay off the sausage too much salt and fat in it. I always feed mine table scraps and the raw diet, I have one that is a 19 year old sheltie.

All dogs get upset stomachs and they chew on things when they get bored. Give a little bit of pepto bismo to help settle the stomach. I imagine the hair is what made him sick regardless if it is human or pet hair.

Can homemade food causes my dog to vomit?

Yes -- human food is not meant for dogs; their dietary and nutritional requirements are very different. I'd suggest that you switch to a good quality commerical dog food -- they're much better for your dog. Human food is ok as an occasional treat, but not as a steady diet.

Can homemade food causes my dog to vomit?

you really shouldn't feed dogs human food. it is unhealthy.

switch him over to dog food, but not too quickly. do it slowly, but fast enough so that he won't get sick anymore.

Can homemade food causes my dog to vomit?

Yes!!! DO NOT feed him scraps!!!! We have made the mistake and my dog almost died. We were about as careful as you were and her intestines stopped working!!! The ONLY thing we EVER give her now (The vet actually recommended it) chicken lamb and rice. We also give her metamucil. It has made her ten times better. But if we slip and drop something she will get bloody diarhea (sp) So we feed her that on occasion. Dry Iams diet dog food and half a can Iams diet canned dog food. Please be careful with feeding dogs scraps. Just know the consequences that could happen. We were very lucky with Roxie. We got a second chance.

Well, first... if he is consuming mostly human food... he is not getting a balanced diet. Without a balanced diet, dogs can lose coat.... among other things. Hence the hair in his vomitus.

Call the Vet and have him seen. PLEASE, tell him about his diet. He will advise you on proper nutrition.

Also, sausage is way too spicy for a dog. Bacon is way too fatty.

Hope I helped and good luck!

Then you shouldn't be feeding your dog human food. We have different nutrional needs than our pets. It's very dangerous,no matter how "cautious" you are. Another reason your dog may be doing this is due to the fact you're switching up it's diet once a week, plz take the dog to the vet and get information as to what to feed your dog...yikes
