Please Help My Dog Has a Bad Rash on her backend and I am not Sure what it is!?!?!?!?

My Dog is a 13month old Lhaso Apso, she was recently suspected to have a food allergy to either Wheat or Beef, however no testing has been done, we changed her diet to see if that would help. Now she has a horrible rash on her body, I found a couple bumps that I assumed were flea bites, however after careful examination I have discovered that thwese bumps (red and swollen lumps) cover her entire back end and there are a few sporatic ones elsewhere. She does Itch and occasionally bite to scratch but not to the point I would suspect something this bad, She does have a few fleas but I really have to search to find one. She also suffers from a constant Ear infection in which the medication my vet prescribes only lessen the severity but never cures. She has absolutly No hair loss, she seems happy and energetic, she has regular baths (weekly) and really has no other issues that would cause me concern. Not sure if it's releated but she did start her first heat 4 Days ago.

The rash and ear infection sound like classic symptoms of food allergies. If the food was switched only recently, it may take a few weeks for the symptoms to clear. However, if it's been a while or the symptoms have gotten worse since switching, you may need to try a different food. Chicken and wheat are the most common allergens and sadly they're in most foods. Try a lamb %26amp; rice, fish %26amp; potato, or venison diet should you need to switch.

Also talk to your vet about the possibility of giving you Lhaso Bendryl for the allergies. Our Rotty has a nasty chicken allergy and we give him Benadryl when he has outbreaks to help with the symptoms.

Once the allergies are under control, the rash and ear infections should go away.

It is also possible that your dog has a flea bite allergy which will cause a nasty rash. Work diligently to eradicate the flea problem. Fleas can cause many problems and bring nasty things like parasites into the home so it's best to get rid of them. You may also want to consider having your vet do a skin scraping of the rash to look for mites.

You should be making an appointment with your vet. While all of us can offer suggestions, it may delay the time that your pup needs a treatment.

Best of luck!

Try a hypo allergenic shampoo. You said you bathe her weekly, she may be allergic to the shampoo and bathing her that often you may getting water in her ears which is contributing to the ear infection. Put cotton balls in her ear when you bathe her and even better yet only get her wet from the neck down. See if any of that helps and maybe try a different vetif you dont think that one is right. You can never be to cautious.

Boy you have alot going on here. First I'd get the ear and the fleas under control. The rash is probably from her licking herself to keep herself clean from being in a heat. She has licked so much that it is causing a rash. Have the vet look at that too. I'd also be more concerned as to why he can't clear up the ear infection??? If he's giving you the right medication and your cleaning the dogs ears as your supposed to then it should have cleared up. Get a good flea medication like frontline plus and get rid of the fleas.

Personally I'd get anew vet, one that can look at her ear and take a swab sample and find out why the meds aren't working and give you some that will. Oh yes stop giving her weekly baths. She doesnt need them and maybe thats why she keep getting the ear infections because your getting water in her ears ever time you bathe her. The rest is up to you.

Well, my dog had something that sounds very similar a while back. It was called a hot spot. Hot Spots are pretty much almost kind of like a rash. When my dog had a hot spot it didn't effect his behavior at all either. I think you can get medicine for it at the vet but, you'll probably want a vet to see what it is first. Also, if the medicine isn't working you should talk to your vet about it. After that, if the medicine still isn't working I would switch vets!!! For the fleas you should get Frontline Plus, it works great with my dog and that could be the cause of the problem your dog has if it's not a hot spot.

The heat cycle will stress a dog and make any physical ailment worse, you should consider spaying her. It sounds like she may have compromised immune system.
