What food are you currently feeding him? It will probably help him a lot to switch foods. Whatever you do, don't feed the science diet allergy food. It's terrible stuff. Wellness has a line called Simple Solutions that is really good for dogs with allergies. They make it in venison and duck, meats that dogs usually aren't allergic to. ok i got my dog a vetalog shot. (like a cenalog for humans) that helps a lot and it doesn't cost much. also fish oil pills help with the flakiness. you can also give her ONE children's benadril. (sorry about the spelling :/)

I have a Pekingese with allergies and a Poodle with diabetes I know how expensive this can be and yes they are my babies. You don't need a specialist, the Vet can help what I did was run a test this is a little bit of money but once I knew what was causing it I was able to control it. She's is currently on benadryl which is very affordable and besides that special shampoos and conditioners but not too much money for those. The vet can help a lot just let them know your financial situation. You can also call the Humane Society in your area they have low cost medical assistance much lower than the vets poor thing must be miserable my Abby use to scratch a lot. Hope this helps. PETCO has also vets that go once a month maybe they can answer some questions. Abby was allergic to chemicals in flea shampoos and in Frontline.

my ziggy also has allergies, try to change his food and wash everything he comes in contact with with a hypo allergenic laundry soap they also make a hypo allergenic carpet shampoo, you will never get rid of the problem and the antibiotics will help but you need to constantly change his shampoo, food, bedding, and deturgent untill you find one that is right for him, and there are times his allergies will change. just keep an eye on his progress!

my dog has allergys too. my vet. gives her an allergy pill. she takes half a pill 3 times a day because she is only 12 pounds. It is a round, yellow pill. they are resonalbly priced. i also give her a benedryl when I run out. the vet said it's o.k. I also bathe her in a dog oatmeal shampoo. all this seems to help. Sometimes more than others. Sometimes she gets bad bouts with it and the vet will give her a shot.

You can try a pet multivitamin. There are several on the market that help with skin and coat. Believe it or not, if you determine he might have a grass or other known allergy, you can give benadryl (ask your vet) at about 1 milligram per pound. This is not a long term solution.
