They have fur which each individual strand is a single hair.

Yep. Even short haired breeds can shed them.

All dogs have fur. Which is thier hair. If your bf is allergic to dogs, then he will be allergic to a JRT.

People with allergies can still co-exist with dogs. Whether it's hair or fur is rarely the issue; most people are allergic to pet dander. Keep your dog clean and well-groomed and you should be ok

All dogs have fur.

If your boyfriend is allergic to dogs he is most likely allergic to animal dander, regardless whether an animal has hair or fur. Allergies are generally dander related not hair/fur which is basically the same thing.

They have hair like all dogs. There are both long haired JRTs and short haired JRTs.

Pet allergies is usually the pets dander, the skin shed like dandruff not the fur.

What matters is the dog's dander...and they all have it....

Call any animal clinic or shelter. They have qualified people to answer your question correctly.

The Jack Russell Terrier has fur, and I have great news there is a shot that can be given to your boyfriend by his local doctor to control his allergic reactions to dogs. Or you can keep the dog clean by giving him baths daily, like humans dogs shed their skin and it comes out in pet dander, people who are allergic to dogs arent actually allergic to the fur their reacting to the dander falling off the animal. So you can get your boyfriend the shot which last about a couple of months at a time, or just clean the dog on a regular daily basis.

Poodles are supposed to be good for people with dog allergies. There is also a breed called Coton de Tulear, a small white dog, which also sheds very little. But if your boyfriend has a confirmed allergy to dog hair, you might have to be content with walking or playing with other people's dogs.

I am allergic to cats!!! And I have a friend who is allergic to dogs... she has two fluffy dogs and she less allergic to dogs now than 5 years ago!! It's really cool!! And now I have to insist that we get a cat. :) You should get a Jack Russell Terrier and maybe in a while he won't be so allergic than he was before!

If you really want your JRT there is stuff you can do. Their is a spray you put on the dog to help neutralize the allergens but i have a feeling that if you want the dog and your bf is allergic to them, he may not be all that crazy about taking shots, or extra precautions of owning a dog that sheds a lot.

I am allergic to dogs and I have a dachshund and a Bichon. Those have worked well for me.

Hello; I don't know what your familiarity with dogs are, and specifically JRTs, but they require a lot of exersize, because they're a high energy dog, bred for hunting... If you have the commitment to make a JRT your dog, and make him or her happy, it will require a firm hand, (not mean or cruel, just firm), as they're also a tough and strong willed animal, who will test you their entire lives.

As far as shedding goes, almost all dogs shed, but there's not really a corilation betwee, them shedding and alergies to them; it's the Dander. Dander is sort of like dandruff, if you want to compare it to humans... dander, or skin flakes, as well as their saliva and urine, can cause an allergic reaction 閳?sneezing, wheezing, and running eyes and nose.

The animal hair is not considered to be a very significant allergen, however, the hair or fur can collect pollen, dust, mold, and other allergens. Although individual pets may produce more or less allergen, there is no relationship between the pet's hair length and allergen production. There is also no such thing as a non-allergenic breed. So, it's more likely your boyfreind is allergic to the dust %26amp; pollen collected by a dogs fur, than he is by the dog itself!

In the JRT breed, it is not commonly known; but the rougher coated JRTs shed less than the smooth coat/short haired ones... the exact opposite that most people assume. Your boyfriend can take medication to control his allergies, so that should not be a problem!

If you are committed to getting a JRT, I'd highly recommend reading about them on as many JRT websites as possible; and if you've got no experience training a dog, you picked one of the difficult dogs to control, train %26amp; make your constant companion... any difficulties can be overcome with just time %26amp; commitment, they're highly intelligent, but their engergy will not "calm" until they're about 5-9 yrs old, depending on the bloodlines, and individual personality of the dog... Some websites I'd recommend; www.iheartpaws.com; www.terrier.com; www.dogbreedinfo.com/jackrussellterrier.... There are several more, if you do a websearch, you can read on for days about this incredible dog!

Be forwarned; they are a large dog, in a small dog package! They honestly believe they're about a 150lb dog! They generally aren't afraid of any other dog (my mother's ripped the testacles off a Rotweiler, when it came into her yard last year... and her JRT is 12yrs old, with one eye missing from Cancer, and she's overweight!)... My neighbor took her French Corgi to a obedience class, where they introduce a goat to the class, to test the temperment of the dogs... the goat would gently nudge the dogs, with a gentle headbutt. When the goat butted a JRT that was in the class, it ripped the goats throat out! That was a 15lb dog, killing a 50lb goat! I have to watch my dog (who's very gentle and calm for a JRT; part of a breeding experiment, that was meant to produce a more mellow "Jack", he will attack the pitbull/bulldog mix down the street, because it came after me once... My dog will get himself killed if I don't watch him!

JRT's are bred for hunting, as a result; they will see squirrels, woodchuck, rabbits, cats, and other like animals as prey! My dog currently lives with two cats, and he hasn't bothered them too much... but when we lived in MI, he did kill a cat in our back yard, for intruding... he's also got two grey squirrells, two possums, and a woodchuck to his credit... the 23lb woodchuck was when he was 9months old, and only weighed about 11lbs! He's now 16.4lbs, at 3yrs 7months old, and has mellowed some, which I attribute to the heat (we're now living in Puerto Rico, for the last 1.5yrs).

I'd like to close by saying; I'm not a dog trainer, but I've always been lucky to be able to spend a lot of time with my dogs, and I've always ended up with the sort of dog that others say; "Wow!, I wish I had a dog like that!!!", no matter the breed... Bandit is my first small dog, and his personality, courage, pure heart, and impressive little presence makes me feel that I'd never own another type of dog again! He's curled up on the other side of the bed, while I write this, and I don't have the words to say how fulfilling it has been to have him around the last 3.5yrs! I watched his birth, and visited him weekly until I could take him home, at 8 weeks, and we've barely been apart since! He's small enough to fly with me (carry on), and he's cute enough to bring in places that don't usually allow dogs!

If you do decide to get a JRT, please watch him/her; and, unless you're in the country, and in a huge field, never let them off the leash! One glance at a squirrell, and they'd jet accross a busy highway, without a thought to traffic! Bandits' brother was killed that way. Feed them well; walmart, kmart, and supermarkets don't carry dogfood good enough for dogs! That trash should'nt even be sold! Besides, studies have shown dogs eat less, when they're eating quality, nutritious food... because they 'sense' that they're getting the nutrients they need. So, even though the premium food is more expensive, they eat less of it, because it gives them more of what they need... this has been documented! My JRT goes through a 17.5lbs bag of Science Diet, Natures Best, (it's the best I could find here in Puerto Rico), about every 2.5 months; You actually spend less, on more expensive food! His bowl is always full (something not all dogs can handle, so this isn't recommended; many over eat, some have been known to kill themselves!). Lastly, When they eat less, because they're satisfied; they poop less too! It's a win/win situation!

I hope this wasn't overkill, and I hope my experience has helped!;
