HELP....my dog keeps scratching her face until she bleeds...can anyone help?

i have an english bulldog female, and when she was pregnant, her skin got really bad and dandruffy. its been about 4 months since she was pregnant and her skin on her body got better, but not on her face. she scratches it until she bleeds and around her eyes and a spot on her cheek is raw and has no hair and is swollen. we clean it and put neosporin and that helps, until my other dog licks it off of her. so we separated them, and she scratches her face on any rough surface.....does anyone know what i can do to help her stop and get her face looking normal?

oh wow...sounds serious......well, you might want to take her to the vet and she how to fix that problem, if that isnt possible, try cleaning the area with peroxide and babywipes...make sure to keep that area clean, that way she wont be tempted to scratch because it wont be itchy.....i say about every 4 hrs, check to see if she progressivly stops scratching the area. if so then keep doing what your doing. if not, then you might want to try an oatmeal bath. that help alot with itching and works great with dogs. there are ointments you can buy at pet stores as well. good luck, hope all goes well!

Allergies, could be something in her food? or it can be environmental allergies.

have her checked out by the vet to make sure she doesn't have an underlying condition.

Take her to the vet!

I'd bet my entire checking account that you didn't take her for ANY check-ups while she was pregnant as well.

I would put an E-collar on her just for now. They are not good to keep on for long periods of time but it will make her unable to scratch her face while you try and do something about it. You can give dogs Benadryl for allergies, but ONLY after asking your vet about dose amounts. They are more sensitive then people and too much could kill your pet. You can also use asprin, but again, you NEED to talk to your vet first.

You might have to put one of those funnels around her face. It may be kind of goofy looking, but it will work. Put that on, keep medicating it, and eventually it will get better. You can get one at your vet's office. The vet might have something better for you to treat her skin with as well.

English bulldogs are known for there skin problems. This is probably an allergic reaction to something.....or it could be mild mange considering there is baldness and skin is red. I would call your vet and schedule an appointment to get that checked out.

It could be more than just dry skin, it sounds like mites or mange. It could also be her thyroid so have the vet run a full panel to make sure she is comfortable. Also add a good fish oil supplement to her diet.

She could have fleas, infection on her nose. But I'd take her to the vet.

TAKE HER TO THE VET! If you don't. then it will get worst

go to the vet and ask him for one of those collars you put on the dog when biting there face. I did that with my last dog and she then left her face alone.

Maybe hot spots? Your best bet is to get one of those cone collars, Clean the soars with peroxide and then polysporin, put the collar on so she can't scratch at it, this might help to clear her up. Good Luck
