Shedding dog?

My beagle sheds a lot, I thought giving him a bath and brushing him out really well would help, but he's still shedding. I feed him a holistic/organic dog food, he doesn't get many table scraps and when he does, its mostly fruits and veggies (sometimes chips). Maybe its normal for him to shed, but I can literally pull hairs out from him (not a whole heck of a lot, maybe 10 stands). Is he lacking something from his diet or is this normal??

P.S. Go Uno!!!!! Its about time a beagle won!! :)

Congratulations on your Beagle. I personally own a Yellow Labrador Retriever. Some dogs have a "shedding season", but our dogs (yours and mine) are constant shedders...always!! But that is very normal, so stop worrying and stop yanking his hair out!! LOL You must be proud of "UNO" el perro numero uno...despues del Lab. LOL Just kidding, I luv ALL dogs!

i used to own a beagle basset mix. she was the same. beagles shed A LOT. my golden retriever actually sheds less than she did. So there is the answer. lol

drizzle a little bit of olive oil on his food, about a teaspoon. This is good for blood, skin, and hair.

You can also try to bathe him in Beer occassionaly. Models do it. =)

And this might sound ridiculous, but you can smash up some avacado, and then comb it in. Then let it sit for a bit. This will nourish his skin. Avacado has a lot of natural oils and fats. Then when you wash it out, it doesn't have much of a smell at all, other than being fresh.

You can also bathe him with just a little bit of Baking Soda in the water. This is natural and it will kill odors.

Beagles shed and dogs shed....theres really no way to stop it...but it might get better when they get older and it you brush her everyday!

Dogs shed, its a fact of life. Some dog breeds do shed more than others and Beagles may be one of those. Giving him Omega 3 supplements will help give him a really shiny coat and may help with the excess shedding. Your vet will be able to shed (sorry - he he) some light on this and give you further suggestions. You could also try the Dr. Foster and Smith web site, they have great products for pets.

im sorry to say that I have the same problem. What I did was I went to petco and asked to have the deshedding treatment done on my dog. It costs only $20 and it reallly works.

Nope, what you are describing is normal. Perhaps even exceptional in that 10 strands of hair sounds like a low-shed for a beagle. Even though they have short hair, beagles are heavy shedders and they shed a LOT of hair all year long. Keep feeding him a high quality food and brush brush brush. You could also consider adding a vitamin E and/or omega fatty acid supplement to his diet. It may or may not help reduce shedding but it won't hurt him and it will support overall skin and coat health.

Just get a furminator- the best deshedding comb I have ever used. They are a little pricey but well worth it!!!
