It's to late to call a vet now but will in the morning.. Just noticed while bushing my German Shepherd some patches of extremly dry, flakey skin with minimal hair surrounding it.. He also has red bumps down his stomache.. I plan on calling a vet in the morning and realize no diagnoses can be made on the internet..but what do you think this sounds like?? I have some medicated dog shampoo for dry skin..should I go ahead and use this??

Without knowing exactly what it is, I would not apply anything to it. It could make it a lot worse. Just keep an eye on him until you tlak to the vet.

probably u shouldnt use the shampoo, bc it might infect it since he has bumps. i think it could be fleas, but i doubt it would look like that. maybe ring worms. i hope not. im not really sure but i hope ur dog is ok

might be ringworm, an fugus infection. its highly contagious...

Is he itching or scratching a lot? If so it could be allergies or more likely contact dermatitis. The vet will give you a cream. Shampoo shouldnt hurt. Try and get some of the dead skin off. Google contact dermatitis in dogs and maybe there is a home remedy

I wouldn't do anything at all with it for now. Wait to see your vet. Anything you might use on it could either aggravate the condition or mask it, so I'd advise just leaving it as is. It could be an allergy to an ingredient in your dog's food, or to something in its environment. Or it could be something more serious. As long as your dog isn't miserable or in pain, just leave it alone 'til your vet can have a look. Dogs do seem to react with skin-issues to all kinds of things. I think it's best not to treat it at all until your vet has determined what, exactly, the problem is.

I have a friend whose dog likes to crawl on his belly on the grass. Now he's got a rash (from the grass) all over that area.

Does your dog hang out on the grass a lot? Could be an allergy or little bites from an insect (besides fleas.)
