Dog grooming question?

Why do you have to bath dog before grooming

is it easier on the clippers when the fur is clean and shouldn't you wash after to get the loose hair off

Dog grooming question?

when i worked for a groomer she would have me wash them first because yes it is easier on the clipper.

Dog grooming question?

They bathe dogs before they clip them to remove all dirt and grime from their fur coat and to help detangle and make it much easier to groom them. After they clip them they then use a small blower to remove all of the excess hair and also brush them to beautify them.

Dog grooming question?

I know a lot of people who trim their dogs before bathing. I don't think it really matters which way you go about it.

If you trim first then bath you can always do a little bit of trimming when the dog is dry to get rid of all the sticky out bits.

Dog grooming question?

I am a groomer, and it is actually important to brush the coat first. If the dog has any mats, the water will tighten the mats and hurt the dog. If the dog is super dirty than yes, bath after brush first. Than start from the beginning. I always do a pre-cut first (after brushing) and then bath followed by a finishing cut.

Dog grooming question?

1. Bathing is to remove sticky dirt which migh prevent the clippers from going over the coat smoothly.

2. Mats need to be cut out before bathing, however, since mats that are bathed tend to turn into an amazingly huge wool sweater right before your eyes in the tub.

3. After bathing, the dog most likely shakes most of that extra clipped hair out. A combing after also helps remove extra snips.

I comb all of her hair to get any knots out. Then I cut her hair, then I cut her nails. Then bath time, dry her. Then I brush her teeth and clean her ears. Next her body spray. Then I put medicine on her hot spot. Then she is beautiful and ready for the red carpet.

Dog grooming question?

My mom groomed dogs for 30 years. She told me once that a dirty coat will dull the clipper blades much faster. At that time it was rather costly to get quality blades sharpened or replaced.

Dog grooming question?

If the dogs coat is free of matts then it can be washed first and clipped after (once thoroughly dried) as this is better for the blades and is easier to clip once clean.

If the dog is matted then the dog has to be clipped first, washed and then clipped again (once dried) as new tufts spring up after washing!

Dog grooming question?

It depends on the dog, etc.- if the dog is extremely filthy, then yes, most will bath first. However, if you have a dog with LOTS of hair that is being shaved down, many groomers will give a quick cut first so that it's easier to wash and dry the dog.
