Dog Veternarians! Need Help ASAP?

I took my dog to the vet because he had a thumb tip size bump on the top of his back right leg. His skin under the fur was red while the rest of his body under his fur was white. The vet said it was nothing, just maybe a bug bite. But now its been 2 weeks since we been to the vet and now the bump is gone, but now his hair where the bump was is gone so he has a bald spot and his skin where the bump was is still red. I don't think the vet really knows much about stuff, but can someone let me know how serious this problem is and what it is and if there is anything I can do to help him!?!? Thank you so much

If it seems like this spot is causing obvious pain or distress to the dog, I would not bother with it. Dogs are able to take care of themselves (for the most part). There have been cases where dogs have been bitten by snakes and survived on their own. There is something about a dog's saliva that is very good for wound-healing.

As for the red spot, it may just be irritation from the bite/injury. If you are really that concerned and the first vet will not do anything about it, get a second opinion. It cant hurt.

If you are doubting your vet call a second vet and ask for another opinion.

just a shot in the dark..but we have had something like this on our dog...it was a hive... now if she gets bumps we immediately give her benedryl (sp) and it clears right up.... it could also be a yeast infection...
