A question about dog care?

I have a german shephard/fox terrier mix dog. She's about 2 years old. The thing is, we've had her since she was a puppy, but we don't take her to the vet very often (not enough money). Anyway, she has hair all down her belly, over her nipples, and in between her legs. Is that ok? I heard once that you're supposed to shave a dog's belly. What should I do?

She is supposed to have fur in those spots. Not trying to say anything, but if you can't afford a dog, don't get one!

Shaving their belly? I've never heard of that. I say don't shave the belly. I would also look into taking your dog to a low cost vet or vet clinic. It is important that your dog gets a check up and vaccinations periodically.

If I may, start a change jar and dedicate the money for vet bills. Empty the spare change in your pocket a few times a week and save up to take your pooch to the vet. Also, you could volunteer time at your vet's office in exchange for services. The community I live in has a great dog association that helps those who can't afford dog care. You should research this in your area.

DON"T SHAVE THE DOG! That hair is normal. And you really do need to take her to the vets every now and then.

well, dont shave ur dog cuz with some dogs they need the hair do stop from being sun burned...its okay for a dog to have hair but u must make sure the dogs hair is clean.

Never heard of that. The hair is normal just leave it alone it will be fine.

no you dont have to shave them but most people I know who have them buy regular electic clippers for humans and keep the hair short. You might find a deal at petco or petsmart at the grooming salon they offer discounts.

I think it is great that you are taking care of this dog and worrying about doing the right thing for it. Sometimes people get animals and their situations change and the money isn't always there to run to the vet for every little thing. I agree that your pet needs vaccinations, to keep her healthy, but just because you don't have the money to take her to the vet, doesn't mean you shouldn't have a dog. I hate to hear stupid people on here putting people down all the time. I think if you don't have sound advice, don't say anything. I think your puppy is just fine. If you think her hair is causing problems, cut it yourself. Groomers however don't charge a whole lot. Just check around. Good luck with your doggy. You deserve her!

I assume that you take her for shot and when she is sick. I would just like to say that people don't seem to understand that things change in your life all the time and when you get a dog you don't know if your always going to have the money when something happens to your dogs, but you do what you can when something happens. Anyway it is okay for your dog and it is going to cause any health problems. As long as you love your dog and your taking it to the vet when you know something is wrong your doing your part as an animal owner. This should be a place where people can get their questions answered and not a place where people get verbally attacked after all you don't know the whole situation. I wish you the best with your dog.
